  • Do not squeeze the lime. (Ars Technica)

A man who did squoze the lime developed a nasty case of phytophotocitrolimeodimeodermatititis.
Specifically, the toxic chemicals are furocoumarins, which are found in some weeds and also a range of plants used in food. Those include celery, carrot, parsley, fennel, parsnip, lime, bitter orange, lemon, grapefruit, and sweet orange. Furocoumarins include chemicals with linear structures, psoralens, and angular structures, called angelicins, though not all of them are toxic.
Avoid all of these things. Stick to safe inorganic ingredients, like arsenic.

16 Proof Joe Rogan is a fuckwitt.

Rogan referenced complaints on the left that they need their "own Joe Rogan" on Tuesday.

"I think these ‘Call Her Daddy’ shows and all these different shows that [Harris] went on — I mean I'm sure they had an impact, but I think that in the future… I'm sure they're scrambling to try to create their own version of this show," Rogan said. "This is one thing that keeps coming up like, ‘We need our own Joe Rogan,’ right? But they had me, I was on their side!"

62 Speaking of the face diaper hoax: When I was at Home Depot yesterday, a clerk came over to me. Whatever she was saying was practically incomprehensible with the black plastic mask she had over her nose and mouth. I told her, "I can't understand you with that thing on your face." She burbled something about ". . . trying to help you . . ." I turned away and found a clerk with his actual face showing instead.

From now on, if someone is wearing that, they are getting, "I can't understand you," and if I get snippy attitude (as, being white, I often do here from even unmasked "workers"), I'm adding, "If I were your boss, I'd make you take that thing off, or you'd be fired."

I've not yet come to the point of laughing and pointing, but I'm heading that way.

Garmin watches are excellent and the tracking software (phone / pc) is compressive. I started with a VivoActive 3 and it was helpful when tracking exercise, running and steps. My current one is an Epix Gen 2 I picked up on a huge discount when Garmin consolidated some product lines into one. It is overkill but the 16 days of battery life alone are worth having it. If I didn't end up with this one I would have bought the Venu 3. If you decide to kept it will keep you entertained for quite a long time.

EVERYONE has forgotten how to drive instinctively in this stuff, (including you to a degree.)

- Increase your following distance
- Apply brakes and acceleration softer than you do on dry pavement
- Drive the conditions not the forecast
- When your traffic signal in front of you goes green, assume someone else in the cross roads is going to panic-skid right into the intersection. (Give a couple of extra seconds to verify that everyone else is under control before you proceed into the intersection.)
- Give yourself extra time to get where you're going!
- If you start to lose control of your vehicle in slippery road conditions, LET OFF ON THE GAS. (If you were using cruise control, cancel it and turn it off in these conditions, it's not a good idea to use it here.)

"Don't cross the streams. Okay, important safety tip. Thanks, Egon."

All your points, G and R, are common sense. Which means for many people in America, these items need to be reiterated as often as possible. My first time driving in snow was in '89, here in Da Swamp (yes! And the white stuff stayed on the ground for three days!). Everybody was spinning wheels and sliding. Took me two hours to get home from work, a trip that normally is 35 minutes.

Compared to that, my snow driving in CO was simple.

I'd add, "Don't change direction abruptly."

97 I lived in Raleigh in the 70's just when the Yankee invasion started. My boss warned me the day before about driving in the snow and I kind of laughed and reminded him I was from the snow belt. He laughed at me and said, it's not the snow I was going to warn you about but the drivers.

Oh man, I saw some of the most outrageous driving. I saw a beautiful Mercedes Benz wrap around a telephone pole at the intersection where I was waiting.

People locking their brakes and just gently gliding off the road like a ballet dancer falling off the stage.

99 Despite being RWD, my big Mercedes W126 sedan (I still miss that car!) handled snow beautifully. I learned to feel how it was responding to road conditions. It really handled differently, and gave me feedback, on a snowy road compared to a dry one, or a rainy one.

I never tried to drive in the mountains or foothills if it snowed. Just went to work or the store and back, which did not involve steep hills where I lived in Denver and Aurora. When the sun came out, the snow *steamed* off the pavement instead of melting. Within a day or so of a snowfall the roads were dry enough to drive without trouble.

It was the perfect climate for me. Damn shame the leftists have turned Denver and so much of the state into a hellhole.

Driving in snow is no big deal and never intimidated me. Ice needs one's undivided attention but still doable. I enjoy driving in inclement weather.

I had a Subie back in the day and it was faultless in the snow and rain. Simple all wheel drive system combined with an opposed flat 4 cylinder engine worked well.

110 All this talk about inclement weather driving reminds me to get the windshield washer repaired. You can hear the pump but no spray. I tried the needle in the sprayers trick but that didn't work so it must be a clog, probably at a tee or crossfitting. Everything is buried and you have to get to the bottom of the reservoir and pump with the car on a lift. The days of the big plastic bag hanging on the fender well are gone.

That might be the same front we're expecting here this evening. Weakened considerably by the time it gets to the Gulf, but at leas it will cool things to something like seasonable.

121 Perhaps one reason for ingratitude is a mentality of entitlement. Bob Lupton, author of Toxic Charity, said:

Give once and you elicit appreciation.
Give twice and you create anticipation.
Give three times and you create expectation.
Give four times and it becomes entitlement.
Give five times and you establish dependency.

Wonder what sending a check a month for most of a lifetime does?
