This is a lovely, simple portrait. He captured the smooth skin and color of a young woman. The pose suggests a gentle girl and her expression is a mix of appreciation and a bit of wishfulness. Krepinsky was good at showing expression in his portraits based on the others I saw on the Wiki page. A few of them had plants or flowers as a prop and they are nicely done. A bit of color and detail. I couldn't find any still life paintings by him but they might have been damn good.

> South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law on Tuesday, accusing the opposition of "anti-state" activity.

After quick look see at his work it seems Orest Kiprensky skills as a painter matured around 1815-ish. The later stuff, like Poor Lisa, are great portraits. It seems he had one great affair which strikes me as rather peculiar. From Wikipedia:
While in Italy [1816-1822] he met a local girl Anna Maria Falcucci (Mariucci) and bought her from her dissolute family [Really? You could buy a girl? I am guessing this was somewhat common] and kept her around as a ward. On leaving Italy, he sent her to a Roman Catholic convent [This is known as his "Here you go, I'm outta here" period]. In 1828 Orest receives news she disappeared. After finding her in another Italian convent he seems to have ditched her again until 1836 when he finally got around to marrying her and then to mess with her some more he promptly died later that year. In between all this he had time produce 226 paintings. Painting verdict: Double Plus Good with minty overtones of schmaltzy Italian folk songs about about blood feuds, toxic relationships, pasta dishes and Romans. Would Hang. Posted by: Zombie Robbo the Llama Butcher at December 03, 2024 *** Me too. At a short length, SG is fine, but with something like Faulkner's Sanctuary -- his one popular success, I've heard -- whatever he's trying to do gets lost and it goes on too long. All the characters seemed to share some unspoken assumption, but Faulkner never tells us what it is, and I couldn't understand it. Stephen King tells us the epitome of Southern Gothic is the scene in that book when Popeye (the villain, I guess) is about to be hanged. A vain fellow even on the scaffold, he keeps trying to flip his hair back out of his eyes. The hangman says, "I'll fix that for you," and drops the trap. Exit Popeye, with his hair in his eyes. Abdallahi, who faced 16 felony counts including hate crime and terrorism for allegedly shooting a 39-year-old Orthodox Jewish man walking to synagogue on Shabbat in Chicago on Oct. 26, was admitted to Cermak Health Services on Nov. 15. @AeroTech_Space *News Report* Fighter Pilots in Arizona report drones with 5-10’ wingspans! @azfamily reported on F-35 pilots at the Barry M. Goldwater Range (BMGR), a military training facility in Arizona that is used by the U.S. Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy, and Army, are reporting drones within the restricted airspace. There was one reported incident in January of 2023 where a drone struck the rear canopy of an F-16. But that isn’t the oddest part to the report. Apparently pilots have reported drones in elevations “they shouldn’t be at”. And there was one incident in which a drone was reported to have between a “5’-10’ wingspan”! These drone incursions continue to occur and it went from isolated incidents to someone surveilling our most sensitive aerial platforms. Also, notice that none of the pilots or drone experts claimed “UAP”. That’s because it’s a DRONE issue, not a UAP issue. Posted by: Mister Ghost at December 03, 2024 10:30 AM (TGPs7) 195

During his Speech, Yoon vows to “Eradicate Pro-North Korean Forces and protect the Constitutional Democratic Order.” Police have been deployed at the entrance to the National Assembly Building in Seoul, following South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol having declared Martial Law. Under Martial Law, South Korean President Yoon has outlawed any form of Political Activity, including Protests, Demonstrations, or Rallies; while all Media Outlets across South Korea have been placed under Governmental Control. Iranian-backed Iraqi militias have deployed to Syria to back President Bashar Assad’s counteroffensive against Sunni jihadi insurgents who have captured large portions of northwestern Syria, including most of the city of Aleppo.
An Iraqi military official who spoke on condition of anonymity said that Iraqi militias in Syria have already been deployed to the war effort and that additional forces have crossed the border, the Associated Press reported on Monday. Some 200 Iraqi militants on pickup trucks crossed into Syria overnight on Sunday through the strategic Al-Qa’im border crossing, near Abu Kamal in Deir ez-Zor Province, said the Syria Observatory for Human Rights, a U.K.-based opposition war monitor. Moreover, Iran had dispatched dozens of fighters from Shi’ite militias and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to Syria by air, Sky News Arabia reported. ==== Iraqi militias under Iranian command fighting in Syria for the Ba'athist regime in Damascus. ------- You joke but I saw something on PBS a while ago, based on the released Soviet archives papers, that the Soviets weren't willing to start an atomic war over Korea for the Red Chinese [oddly enough!] so nuking the Reds on the other side of the Yalu might have worked. 117 OT but I am reading Flannery O’Conner… her well written stories go… nowhere, actually, sort of trail off into the mist.

Ol' Harry loved him some commie bastards. It was his refusal to back Chiang that enabled Mao to take over in China.
--------------- One has to wonder why we were supporting both the Nationalists and Maoists. I just figure our position was to see who wins and have chips in either outcome. The number one American general to be dispatched following Pearl Harbor was Stillwell to China. Harry inherited FDR's master plan. Posted by: Pudinhead at December 03, 2024 10:57 AM (jFCkp) 274

I wonder if one motive behind Truman supporting Mao might be that Stalin didn't trust Mao (rightly, as it happened). Mao looked like a Tito to naive observers.
Turned out, Mao was worse than Stalin, if only to his own people. Tito was just a smelly fascist caudillo, like Saddam. Posted by: gKWVE at December 03, 2024 11:01 AM (yYROg) 283

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol Accuses Opposition of Pro-North Korea Sentiments and Anti-State Activities President Yoon Suk Yeol accused opponents from the Democratic Party, which controls parliament, of sympathizing with North Korea and engaging in anti-state activities that paralyze the government’s functioning. "We will suppress anti-state forces as quickly as possible and normalize the situation as soon as we can—martial law has been declared in the country. We understand this will cause some inconvenience. These measures are necessary to preserve the Republic of Korea," Yoon Suk Yeol stated. South Korea’s Ministry of Defense has convened a meeting of key commanders, and all branches of the armed forces have been ordered to increase combat readiness. The song, according to the poster, was written in 1960, but this recording must have been later -- it's in color, for one thing, and Darin's hair is longer than he'd have worn in 1960. This was on his early 1970s variety show, I guess?

They modified early Ampex VR 1000 2" quad VTRs by 1957 to record color video. So, by 1960, many NBC shows were in color, including Dinah Shore (1959) and Perry Como. Nukes weren't necessary. Just conventional bombing north of the Yalu where the Chinese were massing and where the Migs were based would have been enough.

The SoKo 'emergency' has been declared 'over'. This was a drill. It was only a drill. If it had been an actual emergency, you would have been told to tune to the CONELRAD frequencies on your radio. This concludes this broadcast.
