1 Hmm.

Syria's fairly interesting right now.

Bottom line is whether Iran's little empire of meddling and intimidation is crumbling as badly as it appears.

For the same reason, "Sleighride" is banned from my hearing. My daughter asked me why I hate "Last Christmas" by George Michael. I said it has less to do with the song, that it being played incessantly over many years.

For the same reason, "Sleighride" is banned from my hearing. All those years in elementary, middle and high school playing that because it was "safe" for the "Winter Holiday Concert," with inept saxophones honking tonelessly behind me while I'm forced endlessly hit the upbeats has permanently scarred me.

95 Last Christmas is about George Michael picking up some guy in a bar (or restroom?) being sodomized, and lamenting the fact that it was a one night stand.

He then hopes this year he can find a guy who will sodomize him, and not leave afterward.

U.N. Peacekeepers.

Which at this point are mercenaries hired and paid for by the U.N. to police member states. The formula for peacekeeping troops is that the nation offering them received payment as if they were first-world (i.e. US) troops, and the nation then pockets the money, paying them their normal pay minus the usual graft and corruption.

This usually results in the troops seeking alternative compensation via looking, extortion and human trafficking. Because they come from high-corruption societies, the military discipline is weak.

But some member countries have some tough hombres and can crack heads together at need. Also, looking a major warlord's house is nice compensation.

Brooks' biggest weakness was stretching the joke too far. He'd drag out the pacing because he was going for extra laughs and a lot of times it didn't work.

Nothing like the Zucker-Abrams-Zucker approach where you have some calm periods, make a set-up and then hammer the audience with non-stop gags until they're gasping for breath, weeping with laughter.

There are moments like that in Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein, which is why they are his best work.

I think you would enjoy "Three Weeks With the Coasties: A Tale of Disaster and also an Oil Spill." This is based on my time at the Deepwater Horizon oil spill response back in 2010. It is semi-autobiographical, and you might find the experience of a family put under the pressure of a short-notice deployment interesting. Hopefully such things are safely in the past.

There is also a strong spiritual element as well, and the Mass offered in a conference room was one of the most meaningful I have ever experienced.

Military chaplains are truly the elite among minsters of God.

Meh, a minor skirmish that has already played itself out.

Sometimes people have to vent their spleens so everyone knows where people stand.

Years ago as an RCIA sponsor, we did a talk about "peace" and how important it was, how necessary, how we should always choose peace, and after a while I had to object.

How many of us have tried to go along to get along, tried to let stuff slide, all the while the tension builds. It's like a summer storm - the humidity and temperatures build and finally a thunderstorm rolls through and everything cools off.

That's all I see happening here.

360 Ben Had...(that is such a funny nickname by the way),

I just installed Firefox. Translation is simple since it is baked into the browser. The steps:

1. Open Settings Menu (3 horizontal lines in upper right corner of the browser.

2. Open Translate Page...

3. A Translate dialog opens. Select the language** you want the current web page to be translated into and then click on the Translate button.

4. Become a celebrity and earn the big money.

** There is no option for New Mexican which is half English and half Mexican. Sorry.

371 Franpsycho, IDF has acknowledged two strikes on Hezb positions/personnel who were deemed in violation (one rocket launcher being readied, another pair entering a known Hezb ordnance bldg, something like that). Hadn't heard anything about Beirut.

Beirut's been packed to the gills with Syrian refugees (actual refugees, for Americans who have had the concept and meaning eviscerated in the last 4 years) for years. Yet I'd guess more are on the way. Meanwhile, for its own reasons (Hezb re-supply routes), Israel's been smoking Leb/Syr border crossings for a while. Never a dull moment in that region, but gettin' quite spicy right now.

The Common Cormorant or shag
Lays eggs inside a paper bag.
The reason you will see no doubt
It is to keep the lightning out.
But what these unobservant birds
Have never noticed is that herds
Of wandering bears may come with buns
And steal the bags to hold the crumbs.
