Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Border Czar Nominee Tom Homan: "Resistance" Governors and Mayors Who Block Deportation Efforts Will Be Prosecuted for Harboring Illegal AliensHoman sees this issue with the proper amount of nuance, which is nearly none at all. President-elect Donald Trump's border czar, Tom Homan, has issued a stark warning to sanctuary cities, stating their officials could face federal charges for obstructing immigration enforcement. The warning comes as Trump prepares to reinstate strict immigration policies and mass deportations. Key Details: Homan said federal law supersedes local sanctuary laws, and refusing to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) could result in charges for obstruction and harboring illegal immigrants. Homan plans to work with the next Attorney General, likely Pam Bondi, to determine if sanctuary city policies violate federal law. Trump and Homan aim to prioritize deportations of individuals accused or convicted of crimes, with additional measures to cut federal funding for sanctuary jurisdictions. Diving Deeper: President-elect Donald Trump's border czar, Tom Homan, has signaled a hardline approach to sanctuary cities, warning local officials they could face prosecution for defying federal immigration laws. Speaking to Just the News, Homan emphasized that impeding federal enforcement or knowingly harboring illegal immigrants could result in criminal charges. "Federal law trumps state and local law every time," Homan said, referring to sanctuary policies in cities like Los Angeles, which recently reaffirmed its status as a sanctuary city. He noted that refusing to transfer illegal immigrants in custody to ICE may constitute harboring, a violation of federal law. Homan plans to seek an official opinion from the next Attorney General--Pam Bondi is currently the nominee--on whether such refusals warrant legal action. He is also advocating for broader measures, such as withholding federal funds from jurisdictions that adopt sanctuary policies. "We've got to pull federal funding," Homan stated, arguing that sanctuary policies undermine public safety. He warned mayors and governors that failing to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement could jeopardize community safety and violate federal statutes. Homan also addressed broader concerns, including the Biden administration's handling of unaccompanied minors and the loss of track of 30,000 migrant children. He pledged to prioritize efforts to locate these children, acknowledging the challenges but vowing to combat human trafficking and forced labor. Looking ahead, Homan expressed hope that Mexico's government would cooperate in reinstating Trump's "Remain in Mexico" policy, which requires asylum seekers to await processing south of the U.S. border. However, he warned, "If [Mexico's president] doesn't, then you know President Trump's one bad-ass president."This may be a bluff, a bit of saber-rattling. We already know the public rejected the lawfare against Trump. Now, if Trump begins using legal process against #Resistance figures (who are legitimately breaking the law), we'll see if the public is against all use of prosecutorial power to settle political disputes, or only plainly rancid and corrupt uses of the power, as we saw in the five Trump prosecutions. I think the public might just reject all attempts to prosecute political actors over political disputes, but we'll have to see. There is little question, though, that these Sanctuary jurisdictions should have federal monies stripped from them, as Homan suggests. The federal government is paying blue cities a lot of money supposedly for "law enforcement;" if they won't enforce the law, that money should stop. Obviously, the Biden tactic of using all federal funds (especially FEMA emergency funding) as a slush fund to send to blue cities to pay for illegals will end, immediately. If any of these Sanctuary zones want to continue giving illegals free health care and rent subsidies, they can steal that money from their own citizens/taxpayers for that purpose, and see if how their voters like it. It's always easier to tax someone far away to pay for something unpopular. Having to tax your own voters will be a heavier lift. And, of course, if these cities and states declare themselves Sanctuary zones, then we all know where all the remaining illegals must be sent. Meawhile, lefties and left-leaning corporate libertarians are warning Americans -- who have not seen much in wage gains for 40 years because of "outsourcing" most manufacturing to the third world while the US simultaneously imported a third-world workforce to do all the jobs in the US that couldn't be "outsourced" -- that the maids and gardeners they don't actually earn enough money to employ will now be more expensive.

Its going to depend on who wins the publicity war to frame the efforts. If the left manages to convince people that its only Trump throwing a tantrum and looking for revenge by abusing power, then he's in trouble. If the truth wins out, so that people perceive it as punishing abuse of power and making people pay the price for using the justice system to attack political enemies, then he'll be in good shape. The arguments that deporting these illegals will have negative financial implications is kindergarten level stupidity. Or more likely, just outright lying. The long term impacts of supporting tens of millions of illiterate masses far outweighs the price I may have to pay for a fucking head of lettuce for crying out loud.
And the bottom line is that I can choose to not buy that head of lettuce, but I will not have the choice to not pay the increased social costs of supporting - through my taxes - these tens of millions of indigents. If I have to support people in need, I prefer them to be Americans. For crying out loud again. Posted by: Chairborne!...Desk From Above! at November 25, 2024 02:29 PM (xyuoi) 47

Are you saying Ecuadorians are genetically predisposed to mowing lawns? Or that Americans are too lazy to mow lawns? Or both? And if we legalized those immigrations, would they still be mowing lawns, or would they try to find work in other sectors? It's an insulting and nonsense argument. Either way, I think it's a GOOD thing if the cost of domestic services go up. It should go up. That's how a healthy economy works. If the demand is high, the supply either increases, or the price increases. If we cut off the flow of supply (illegals), the price will equalize somewhere where being a landscaper is, once again, a career where people can live a normal life and not a life on welfare. Several officials even suggested that Mr. Biden could return nuclear weapons to Ukraine that were taken from it after the fall of the Soviet Union.
Just to be clear, although there were Soviet nuclear weapons on Ukrainian soil when the Soviet Union collapsed, the Ukrainians never had the Soviet arming codes, so the nukes weren't usable. Ukraine was never a nuclear power. One assumes that with enough time and effort, the Ukes might have jury-rigged a way around the arming code devices, but that's not the same thing as saying that they had nukes when the USSR collapsed. So? Then the Denver mayor got one thing right in his life. If I have a car reservation and the employees have abandoned the rental counter and the keys are sitting there, I'm taking my reserved car and dealing with it later, not wasting my time at the airport. Its going to depend on who wins the publicity war to frame the efforts. If the left manages to convince people that its only Trump throwing a tantrum and looking for revenge by abusing power, then he's in trouble.
--- Every single article that touches on immigration has to include the line "false claims immigrants were eating pets" or some variation. It's hilarious how desperate they are--still--to spike that one line from the debate. BTW, we should remind the left that, although Kamala lost the election, she did "win" the debate. Do people pay other people to plant and maintain the garden at their home? Like, tomatoes, herbs, etc? If it's like flowers, I'd assume that would fall under lawncare mentioned above. My son cleans the house, including the bathrooms. That is why I pay him an allowance. At his work this summer at a restaurant, when he went back to school and put in his notice, the initial replacement was an illegal. That lasted a day, as the owner called ICE or DPS, and the illegal was taken into custody. The second replacement was an actual Texas resident. If all government assistance was cut off and businesses acted like my son's employer, most illegals will self deport. Government assistance includes schools, hospitals, and anything that takes one cent of government money, other than the bus ticket to the border, which I would be ok with using tax dollars for.

I've seen reports that Britain has more political prisoners in jail then Russia does. Britain has jailed like 30 times more people for social media posts than Russia. Americans are about to learn how to
-maintain their own lawns -clean their own house -make home repairs themselves -grow a home garden Everyone nostalgic for the 1950s might not realize what that actually entails. Those who partake in the hiring for these services are of the laptop and professional class. In other words, the upper middle class and higher who are usually kollige educated and hate their smelly blue collar fellow Americans. Not all, but enough to make this generality, so if the costs of living well go up a little, it's fine with those of us with a mower and snow thrower in the shed. Those areas have effectively been under Russian sovereignty since Catherine the Great. Yes, Ukraine is sovereign now, but is getting into a dangerous conflict with Russia over Russian populated land really worth the effort? Even if they manage to take the regions back that Russia occupied they’d have to deport millions of Russian-speaking Russians from the area just to prevent an insurgency and another civil war in a few years. To be honest, the California economy will implode without illegals working at below-minimum-wage rates.
That's because our minimum wage is now an absurd $18.67/hr in San Francisco, and pretty close to that in most other cities/counties. If homeowners actually paid this wage to their workers, every little thing would be astronomically expensive. So nearly everyone hires illegals willing to work at lower rats, and then pays them in cash. Otherwise, the economic system is untenable. The reason the voters are OK with this is that they think the higher minimum wage is a punishment against businesses (who are evil capitalists), but they (the liberal voters themselves) feel that they shouldn't have to be similarly punsihed. So they pass laws to hurt business owners and then flaunt the law themselves. But with the illegals gone, suddenly they'll all have to pay the actual minimum wage to actual Americans. Which the won't be able to afford. So everything will come to a standstill. Except the popcorn industry. Posted by: zombie at November 25, 2024 03:08 PM (pMi6S) 350

I was at the gas station today and I had a nice interaction with a stranger. She apparently saw me looking at her dog and decided to chat with me. She brought him over, introduced the dog, and asked if I wanted to pet him. I did. He leaned against me while I pet his neck and asked a couple of questions. I thanked her and finished up getting gas.

To be honest, the California economy will implode without illegals working at below-minimum-wage rates.
That's because our minimum wage is now an absurd $18.67/hr in San Francisco, and pretty close to that in most other cities/counties. Posted by: zombie You are thinking about it from a business owner's perspective. There is little question, though, that these Sanctuary jurisdictions should have federal monies stripped from them, as Homan suggests. The federal government is paying blue cities a lot of money supposedly for "law enforcement;" if they won't enforce the law, that money should stop.
++++ They absolutely should. This is, in essence, a nullification crisis. The blue states and cities have been engaging in nullification for more than a decade with no consequence. The border ("sanctuary" policies) and drugs (legal marijuana) are obvious, glaring examples. Meanwhile, any attempt by the non-progs to engage in nullification - "gun sanctuaries" and whatnot - are immediately resisted by the feds. Well, turnabout is fair play. Give it to them hard and deep. If the states and cities want to make a military issue out of their sanctuary status, then so be it. They break the law, the feds cut them off and if they want to start a war over it and compel the feds to turn the taps back on, then let them try. It will be illustrative and clarifying regardless of outcome. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at November 25, 2024 03:17 PM (HnUIn) 397

For almost 6 months the Brits were determined to cross the Dnepr at one spot on the swampy banks of the Riverbed (a dam collapsed upstream a few years ago and water levels are low) and march to Sevestapol. Now a look at the map shows that the narrow entry into Crimea would be trivial to defend. The Russian Generals convinced Putin not to counterattack, instead they just shelled the poor troops in this swamp from afar and every so often collected prisoners...and shelled boats carrying wounded out and new troops in. @376 the problem is that governments won't lower taxes and fees if their costs go down.
For sure, and this is a major anchor around the neck of education "reform." Education is expensive, at any level. If you could break the back of the federal machine and just pay at the state level, it would be a wash. Get beyond that, back to private or parochial schools and contract tutors, you might even come out ahead in total. But every one of those levels has its own infrastructure, staffing, and legal tradition with a tax tap attached. It's going to take a long generation of really wanting it to undo all those knots. And you have to keep the majority. Posted by: Way,Way Downriver at November 25, 2024 03:24 PM (zdLoL) 431

Crimean War trivia I thought was quite amusing when I found it out; the episode everyone remembers is the Charge of the Light Brigade, which of course was nobly disastrous. One of the reasons it was so disastrous was that it was supposed to be supported by a charge of a heavy brigade from another angle - but the heavy brigade stayed put, never left their lines, and thus the light brigade charged dug in lines all on their own and were massacred.
Why did the Heavy Brigade sit this one out? Turned out that he 2 commanders were brothers in law - and had hated each other for 20 years, and were barely on speaking terms even in staff meetings. The Heavy Brigade Commander was overjoyed to find an excuse to stay in his lines and let his hated relatives unit get cut to pieces. Posted by: Tom Servo at November 25, 2024 03:26 PM (wyMQY) 444

"Refusing to transfer illegal immigrants in custody to ICE may constitute harboring, a violation of federal law."
Harboring unauthorized aliens under subsection 1324(a)(1)(A)(iii) makes it a crime to harbor, shield, or conceal an unauthorized alien knowingly. Harboring includes providing shelter or other assistance (financial, food, etc.). I would not be shy about enforcing it. Arrest law enforcement if you have to - they can go right into custody with the illegals they are harboring. They can complain about "just following orders" but the answer is this - you were informed that you broke the law and willingly did so, orders or not. Also, whose orders? Then arrest that person who gave the orders. No jail time - process and release with a court date. Everything by the book. Posted by: El Mariachi at November 25, 2024 04:19 PM (mvURQ) 475
In prosecuting the perps for harboring, make sure you document multiple instances of them being informed what they are doing is illegal under federal law, and what penalties might attach.
I'd slap a $10k fine on the perps, and a warning that the next time will be 1 year in jail. Good luck if you are a LEO with a felony on your record. You won't have to do this very often, just once or twice. Again, the mayor might talk tough, but when the Denver PD starts losing officers...and can't find anyone to take their places...it's fine for the politicians to parade around waving the bloody shirt...but LEO - they won't do it. Posted by: El Mariachi at November 25, 2024 04:27 PM (mvURQ) 476
I disagree about cutting off JUST the law assistance money. If they are educating illegal kids, cut off the education money. If they are paying to house illegal immigrants, cut off the housing assistance and the fed “guarantees” from Freddie and Fannie. If they are feeding illegals, cut off the food money. If they are giving illegals drivers licenses, cut off highway funds. And so on.
