Quinn Sullivan - Let it Rain (Live)
Quinn got his start when his parents got Buddy Guy to let him up on stage when is 8ish. Buddy and Quinn soon formed a tight bond and when Quinn was bit older he would tour with Mr. Guy when school was out. I them together around 2014 and Quinn, while in awe of his mentor, would get a bit cheeky on guitar. It was then that Mr. Guy what stop his clowning and school Quinn about who was the master and who pipsqueak. There love between them was apparent. This video is from a few years later and captures Quinn with his own band. Mr. Guy taught him well and Quinn learned well. Anonymous is mostly right about lefty memes. You have to have a high level of knowledge of whatever the narrative of the day is to get it but little knowledge outside of whatever the narrative is.
So, for example I googled best progressive political meme of 2016. The first hit that matched my search was a picture of the Republicans running for president in 2016. The caption is "If Republicans don't believe in government maybe they shouldn't run for it" Now the left wing narrative, at the time at least, was that Republicans oppose the very idea of government and want complete anarchy. This was the official narrative at the time. Do Republicans oppose the idea of government? Of course not. And within a few weeks as Trump won that primary the narrative became "Republicans are literal NAZIs!" So is this a good meme? Well it was outdated in weeks. It doesn't point out a truth, even an exaggerated one either - put in army of Ted Cruzes or Trumps in every elected office and you'll still have a multi-trillion dollar federal government two years later. So what does the meme do? Well it lets other leftists know what they are supposed to believe this week. And...that's a terrible meme Posted by: 18-1 at November 22, 2024 10:27 PM (oZhjI) 65

Collin Rugg @CollinRugg NEW: Wisconsin man and married father of two who faked his own de*th after going kayaking, posts a proof of life video saying he is totally fine. Ryan Borgwardt is alive and well after staging a kayaking accident in August. Authorities believe Borgwardt has fled to Uzbekistan but they are uncertain on his exact whereabouts. Borgwardt reportedly went kayaking on Green Lake, where he dumped his phone in the water and used an inflatable boat back to shore. Borgwardt then used his electric bike before jumping on a bus and crossing into Canada. Back in June, a street interviewer interviewed a man in San Diego who said he was considering moving to Uzbekistan for a woman. It's unclear if this man is Borgwardt however their stories seem to line up. Posted by: Mister Ghost at November 22, 2024 10:31 PM (TGPs7) 76

It's case by case, and there are limits to our ability to back/fund outfits only if they're "good guys" if vital interests are at stake, but one sort of amusing real-life case of being on both sides was Angola in the 80s.
The regime (MPLA, commies, backed by the USSR) relied on oil export revenues for its $. We and others backed anti-regime elements, for the usual Cold War reasons. The oil was in the exclave of Cabinda, to the north. Protected by Cuban troops (who were also fighting much of the civil war against people we were backing, in the east and south). Gulf Oil, a US company, ran the operation. So you had Cuban, Soviet-paid troops protecting an American oil company's operations that financed a Soviet-backed government against which we were funding armed groups engaged in a civil war. Beautiful, really. And when all considerations were made, not a contradiction important enough - or long-lasting enough - to matter that much. Oh and the next lefty meme. Its a four panel setup with angry looking Trump in three of them. In each angry Trump he disparages Mexicans, Muslims, and the Pope. In the fourth panel he says the KKK isn't that bad.
Now the idea here is that Trump is mean to "oppressed groups" which now apparently includes the Pope and that he's racist by liking the KKK. This matches the lefty narrative at one point - by saying people that wanted to keep Confederate statues were good people Trump was calling the KKK good. This is...insane. Again, its not an exaggerated truth - its some weird thing you only know if you follow the narrative. And, I suspect a lot of lefties seeing this meme that don't follow politics closely would be very, very surprised seeing the Pope...the head of the hated RCC...being included with Muslims and Mexicans... burining fluid was a substitute for whale oil for lamps, and was a combination of either turpentine, alcohol and camphor, or just turpentine and alcohol. It burned almost as bright as whale oil but was far cheaper. It was developed when the price of whale oil began to soar due to the depletion of whales about 1810. The problem was that it was apt to generate vapors in a whale oil type lamp and was likely to explode due to the heating of metal parts, which was a feature of whale oil lamps. Other designs of lamps were developed to try to avoid the fumes exploding but it was always a risk. The use of burning fluid ended by both the development of petroleum wells which were a source of kerosene, and the taxation of alcohol during the Civil War, pricing it out of the market in competetion with kerosene.

The history of it is interesting as well; it was loosely based on Gosford Park, directed by Robert Altman and written by Fellowes. And that in turn was based on Jean Renoir's 1939 French classic The Rules of the Game, which created the genre. Posted by: Tom Servo at November 22, 2024 10:44 PM (W6hoT) 112

The Truth to Power video grad speech was amazing! The cats Snowflake and Trumpy are inside. It's a miserable night in my part of Canada so they were happy to come in. Not our cats... But when we cat sit them in January, considering they've been basically living here 7 weeks, they'll be right at home. Today we took the dog Ralphy to the vet. It was an ugly day so the cats were inside when we were gone and had the run of the place. Sleeping when we came back. And Mom had an appointment and dog and cats had free reign. All was good. 'Saw 5' was good. I'm enjoying the series a lot. My god-daughter was over and we watched 'Saw 2' and she was amused that I needed to take breaks. Man, now, compared to some of what I watched, Saw....not that bad. I'm unjabbed in Canada. No easy feat. And I'm in an angry mood. Except for the Mom, Ralphy, Snowflake and Trumpy. The Russians responded with a strike on an industrial complex using, for the first time in history, a medium range ballistic missile. Said missile can hit anywhere in Europe, and is impossible to defend against with current technology. Ret. Gen. Mark Milley assured MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle that the United States will “be okay” during President-elect Donald Trump’s forthcoming administration this week despite his previous warning that Trump is “fascist to the core.” “Bottom line is: Breathe deep, America’s going to be okay. There’s a lot of waves out there, but this is a big, strong country, 380 million people, great institutions, great people, great work force, great younger cohort of people that are going to protect America,” Milley responded. According to Bob Woodward’s book War, Milley issued warnings about Trump being an authoritarian and even referred to him as “fascist to the core.” “He is the most dangerous person ever. I had suspicions when I talked to you about his mental decline and so forth, but now I realize he’s a total fascist. He is now the most dangerous person to this country,” Milley told Woodward. Bahh, getting old is not for the faint of heart. Posted by: Thomas Bender --------- If you have to wear glasses, view this as an opportunity. The magic words are Intra Occular Lense (IOL). Put your glasses "on" permanently. Two issues: 1) Medicare and/or most health insurance will only pay for standard cataract surgery. The cost of the IOLs comes out of your pocket. 2) You anonymous pick 2 of 3 to correct- my/ hyper opia and astigmatism OR my/hyper opia and presbyopia. If you're near/far sighted AND astigmatism AND can't focus close, it can't be corrected completely. I chose to live with bifocals or reading glasses, and had my extreme myopia and astigmatism corrected. Went from 20/200 to 20/20. I have bifocals with plain glass and the bifocal spot when I'm going from near to far work, and nothing when outside. No "must wear corrective lenses" on my DL for the first time in 50 years, plus I get to wear the really cool shades. Well, I tried to wash the empty engine bay of the sick Suburban today. Ten degrees outside; it did not go well. To start, I put a couple of pints of Diesel in a metal pail, and heated it on a hot plate until it was real warm, and sprayed that all over the dirty areas with a siphon-feed spray gun. That went OK. Figured it would soften some of the greasy grime. Then I sprayed it down with aerosol degreaser. That went OK. Then I put a gallon of hot water from the kitchen faucet into the bucket, and tried to rinse it with that. It did move some of the grease, but froze in place almost instantly. Some parts did come clean, but all are now covered in white, waxy-looking ice. If the weather warms up some, I will rig a heater to try to thaw and dry it.

The video for this post is from 2023 captures Quinn, now a young man, early 20s, playing at the highest levels of musicianship. This not accidental since at this point he has been playing professionally for over 10 years, maybe a bit more. The band with him is essentially the 2018 band. This video is a performance of another Clapton masterpiece, Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad from Layla. The artistic maturation of these prodigies is stunning and special. The band has this gift to transcend making music and produce something more, sound as poetry. Not to be missed. Quinn and company should be on your radar if you love this type of thing. There's a poll from Data For Progress (a liberal outfit) which claims that 23% of voters in PA said there were "somewhat less likely" to vote for Harris because of her appearances with Cheney. What a genius move. Energize MAGA voters, and offend your own core constituency... simultaneously. The idea was that Cheney would pull in Never Trump Republican voters. But... there aren't any. She used to be a fitness model and a pro football cheerleader. Here's the thing. Markets are very disconnected from underlying fundamentals. Stocks go up in good economic data—although far out of proportion to what is reasonable—but stocks also go up on bad econ data, because it causes hope of more stimulus and accommodative monetary policy. So we still have a visa lottery but with the added Diversity qualifier. In spite of this some Americans still have trouble getting their non-citizen spouses into the USA from Europe.

DEI was pushed by the government and social pressure.
Nobody in the serious business of multi-billion dollar companies honestly thought this was a good idea. It was all BS and it became obvious to most involved that it was affecting the bottom line but there was nothing that could be done because their customers were in the same situation. The fact that it is collapsing so quickly is proof. Posted by: pawn at November 23, 2024 02:01 AM (QB+5g) 343

Not a yuge fan of Megyn Kelly since her bs in 2016 so I never watch any of the stupid links but I saw the clip of her posing like Mika.
Whoa is she ever the cover girl for aging amazingly. I like a more mature woman, no secret there, but I think this is the best she has ever looked. And she looked pretty damn good before. My Lord. Posted by: ... at November 23, 2024 02:06 AM (lX8VI) 345

I would start with: The smallest offices probably started with 3 people: Head, secretary and a runner so ..... - any dept. with 5 or fewer people can probably have its portfolio handled entirely by another bigger dept. Saves manpower and office resources including space. - if the original mission of the dept. has been achieved or its inception is so far in the past that it implies it is just a dead weight then close it, regardless of any recent new "missions". Wondering if I'm too late to comment on cataracts. I had cataract surgery in 2012. Before surgery, my nearsightedness was off the charts - negative 13.5 diopters if correction in my best eye could barely bring my vision up to 20/40. Too severe even for LASIK.
After surgery, 20/20 in both eyes. Don't need glasses for reading or driving. Never had a problem since. Posted by: Toad-0 at November 23, 2024 03:17 AM (MHhQj) 362
Glad you got improvement, Toad-o. That's awesome!
I've considered Lasik, but too chicken... Will go for the $lenses, when (if?) the time comes for cataract surgery. Posted by: JQ at November 23, 2024 03:21 AM (njWTi) 363

LASIK changes the shape of your eyeball. They say it can cause all kinds of weird distortion if you try it on severe cases of myopia. With cataract surgery they just put in a lens that matches the focal length of the eyeball. The best lenses are flexible so you can still adjust the focus from near to far like a natural lens.
Posted by: Toad-0 at November 23, 2024 03:27 AM (MHhQj) 365
Hmmm. I have astigmatism in both eyes. Maybe should go Lasik anyway?
Ugh. Another con$ultation.... Posted by: JQ at November 23, 2024 03:30 AM (njWTi) Posted by: JQ at November 23, 2024 03:33 AM (njWTi) 367
My cataracts are really bad plus they won't give me new glasses because of that. Problem is if there's a copay then I can't afford it on my fixed income and the money situation has gotten worse with bidenomics. Maybe I'll die soon and won't have to worry about my eyes.
Posted by: Ciampino - Talking of glasses at November 23, 2024 03:39 AM (i0xsb) 368
Replacement lenses fixed my astigmatism, too. Most of it comes from imperfections in the natural lens. LASIK won't fix that.
