The problem is clear: Our customers are dumb. (Intel)

Intel commissioned a study to find out how much more efficient users were when equipped with a fancy new "AI PC".

It turned out:
At the same time, AI PCs offered a potentially transformative impact on people's lives, saving individuals roughly 240 minutes a week on routine digital tasks. But the study also highlighted that current AI PC owners spend longer on tasks than their counterparts using traditional PCs. Study results show that greater consumer education is needed to bridge the gap between the promise and reality of AI PCs.
AI PCs make things worse, but the real problem is the users.

Kairos Power - which recently signed a contract to provide power to Google's datacenters - has received approval to build two test reactors in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. (Tech Crunch)

These are small modular reactors, or SMRs, using molten salt cooling systems. They're supposed to be simpler and safer - as well as smaller - than conventional designs.

The test reactors will produce 35MW of heat each, while the production models will produce 150MW.

15 Question: is anybody else having issues with their Win10 computer?

I got an 'error' a few days ago (and no, it didn't stay on the screen long enough to write it down...), and once it fully booted up...EVERYTHING had changed, my primary browser (Vivaldi) had been deleted...it was like I had totally different computer.

Well, I restored everything I needed, and went about my business. HOWEVER, twice now after starting up my laptop, I found myself at square one...browser deleted and NOW Edge is refusing to unpin from Task Bar.

This is getting f*cking old, fast...any tip, hints, or is anybody else getting their computer hijacked by MS?

16 I like my Win10 machine. I think when I bought it, it had Win8. So, 7-8 years old now? Something like that. If it's still chugging along next Oct, I'll just put some variety of Linux on it and keep going.

36.1 degrees out, and I have a sore back from working on the wagon shifter all day yesterday.

Meanwhile, shifter is back together, but a small cable clip snapped during removal, and the replacement will not be here till maybe Monday.

I am more and more convinced that the Gaetz nomination was a head-fake of some type, for some yet not understood reason. Trump, for all of our teeth grinding frustration with his maturing into a knowledgable President learns from experience. And boy, did his first term give him some experiences to learn from.

Back in the days of the big cattle drives to KC and thereabouts, there was a trailhead in the area where the Clear Fork and the West Fork of the Trinity River meet. The drive was subsequently replaced by rail and a huge industry of feed lots and associated businesses grew up there.

Advertised delivery was to be next Wednesday, but parts are already in N.J. and now expected to arrive tomorrow.

That is how the shipment with the other repair parts tracked, arriving yesterday mid-day. So, might have the wagon back up and running by tomorrow evening.

That was my config Desktop 7 and laptop 10. It can get confusing sometimes. But my HD crashed and I wasn't able to recover the system. So now I'm Win 10.

I haven't had any problems with the updates screwing with me but after hearing the stories here I just disabled it.

133 The first cable TV in my little town wasn't shielded as well as it was later. So my dad put up a antenna which needed adjusting almost every day to get the channels. But hey, it was TV and back then the news and Gunsmoke was a thing. Then the cable company shielded the cable and it came to an end. My mother was actually on the cable board of directors and those 14 channels were then hooked into our house. Me being a young teen of maybe 13, didn't watch much as I was more interested in sex anyway.

Watched a Tech explain to me that the transmission on the wagon doesn't have a dipstick to check fluid level.

I think a company like John Deere doesn't want you even to try to fix equipment yourself. I have a problem and I'd like some company-produced video of how to take care of it but the best you can do is something from some fat guy. So I have to pay to have the thing taken in, plus the two weeks it takes them to even start to look at it.

I mentioned it here a year or so ago, but I bought a new gaming laptop with a high-powered 4080 video card. Immediately after setup I accidentally got to some "be greener" settings in setup, and one of the options was to temporarily disable telemetry (the system collecting data, spying, and sending all the information to their owners).

Projected battery life went from 1.5 hours to 6 hours.

It's insane to ponder how much processing power and internet speeds aren't tied to us using the things we paid for, but the things we paid for reporting on us.

I recently learned that there is the way to repair a car, and an insurance quote "these are the steps required to make the repair."

The Start menu is definitely a problem in Win11.
But I can drag any App icon onto the left side of the taskbar and it will stay there. Do you mean you can’t drag files to the taskbar? Because I’ve never tried that.

I was on MacOS exclusively for years. So I managed to miss every Windows version from 7 to 10, only using Windows on other people’s/business’ machines.

So yeah, my last personal PC had WindowsXP.
Windows 11, therefore, is a big improvement for me.

And yet it still has all those weird bugs and annoyances that Windows has always had.

185 Windows 10 was released in 2015. It's ten years old. Recall is a serious problem, sure, but Windows 11 is just Windows 10 with a different shell. If you don't like the shell, install a better one. We did it with Windows 8.
