The Saturday Night Joke

A little boy was doing his math homework. He said to himself,

"Two plus five, that son of a ***** is seven.

Three plus six, that son of a ***** is nine...."

His mother heard what he was saying and gasped, "What are you doing?"

The little boy answered, "I'm doing my math homework, Mom."

"And this is how your teacher taught you to do it?" the mother asked.

"Yes," he answered.

Infuriated, the mother asked the teacher the next day, "What are you teaching my son in math?"

The teacher replied, "Right now, we are learning addition."

The mother asked, "And are you teaching them to say two plus two, that son of a ***** is four?"

After the teacher stopped laughing, she answered,

"What I taught them was, two plus two, THE SUM OF WHICH, is four."

There is frugal and then there is larceny.

Meet Mohammed Abdullah Alabilan.

The 27-year-old Pennsylvania man was arrested yesterday on a petty theft charge for allegedly stealing a lap dance.

Alabilan, cops say, “was buying a service” from a woman inside a Florida strip club when he “refused to pay the $40 service fee.” Seen above, Alabilan sought to leave the Reign nightclub in Clearwater without paying for the 2:45 AM private dance.

19 Driving down I-75 in SW FL last night at about 1:30 a.m., we saw the first quarter moonrise and the sight was startling.

Not far off the horizon, it had the attitude of a teacup or a half grapefruit, in that the line between the lit half and the dark was almost parallel the horizon.

At first we though we were seeing a full moon with a heavy cloud line obscuring its entire upper half, but there was not a cloud in the sky.

I'd never seen a first quarter moonrise like it. Coolest sight in our long two day drive down from northern IL.

I stay away from Facebook for that reason. After Election Day I checked in and found a post from an acquaintance likening the day to 9/11. That produced a reply from a mutual acquaintance who happened to be in the South Tower on that day. His response to that reply was something to the effect that he was entitled to his feelings. Now in his defense, the guy is battling cancer and is taking hormones to suppress his testosterone. Still I know way too many cancer fighters that have somehow managed to avoid sinking to that level of crazy...

Beloit didn't have much of a sportsball team, but they had one heckuva homecoming band that first year I was there. That was four years before the linked vid.

I'll always remember, there was a quiet moment, and from the middle of the floor, some asshoe yelled out, "Eat me, Frank!" There was a most intriguing pause, and then Frank came back with, "I hope that's a girl with a deep voice!"

The crowd was amused.

My tree is still up from last year. I ended up having surgery the week it was supposed to come down. Then I had some months of recovery, so it wasn't coming down any time soon. I said screw it, leave it up. The day after thanksgiving I just have to plug it in. Kinda glad I don't have to do the 3 day ritual of putting the thing up. Makes it easy this year.

https://youtu.be/JhHLS_zFENQ

Quinn Sullivan - Let it Rain (Live) - 2018
https://youtu.be/eYBpqtA2ibo

The 2023 performance captures Quinn, in his early 20s, playing at the highest levels of musicianship. This not accidental since at this point he has been playing professionally for over 10 years, maybe a bit more. Often with Buddy Guy since he was 8ish.

This 2023 video performance is a Clapton masterpiece, Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad, from Layla. The artistic maturation of these prodigies since 2018 is stunning and special. The band has this gift to transcend making music and produce something more, sound as poetry.

The 2018 performance is essentially the same band and is included to show off how solid Quinn and his pals were 5 years earlier.

Small scale/subsistence farming wasn't enough to pay for imported manufactured goods. Beaver pelt trade was very lucrative.

254 In New Mexico we celebrate Christmas by buying tamales.

To be clear, you just don't walk into the store to buy tamales. You have to know somebody that knows somebody that knows somebody who gives you a phone number to somebody that makes the tamales.

Once you make a phone call and connect you place your order for a dozen or two or three and agree to meet in a Walmart parking lot some days later at a certain time

Of course this is all done on strictly first name basis only and with the transaction completed in cash.

This is but one example of why I love living in New Mexico.

If all this is sounding exactly like selling drugs it is because these tamales are a drug.

These two small towns, which are minutes from being in Texas, hate each other when it comes to HS sports since they are in the middle of oil fields and 35 mi from each other. I have a hotel room, a ticket, and a pre-arranged post game hangover. 10 years ago I was living in downtown Seattle in a 500 square foot studio apartment dealing with Communists. Today I own a lovely home in Las Cruces and have the time to drive 2 hours to Roswell for high school football. Fuck Seattle to hell.

That's really sad. My relatives have the sense to not bring up politics when we all get together. About half of us vote republican, and the other half vote democrat. My sister in law is a retired unionized teacher. She manages to almost never bring up anything political. But she really does think that we should pour endless amounts of taxpayer money into the public schools.

294 Anna, I dug up a Becker Europa car radio for a VW Beetle that I didn't know I had. Long Wave, Broadcast band, 49 meter SW band, and FM. There is a dash unit, and another box with the audio amp. It's transistor, not tubes, and it is stone dead. Hooked a speaker to it and applied power, and nary a peep, and the dial does not light up. And it looks like some of the hair-fine wires on some of the tuning coils are severed.

Maybe a Euro car radio restorer could fix it; I am not even going to try. Also, there are guys that can gut out these old radios, and put modern chips inside them.

I will give it to any Horde member who wants it, but as far as I know, it's worthless unless big $$$ are spent to fix it.

345 To clarify, I used the store-bought masa harina, plus lard, to make the tamale dough. Didn't make real masa from scratch. Of course around here it wouldn't be hard to find the dough already made ...... hmmm.

I was instantly schooled about "Mexican food" upon my first arrival in New Mexico. The differences here between version a particular dish upon first consumption seem trivial. Upon further inspection they become spectacular. Today I go to a particular restaurant for one dish and one dish only because they make better than anybody for 500 miles around.

The Mexican food up north is Seattle was a sham compared to what I eat around here these days.

Mine was parked in the barn for the summer; golf cart parked behind it. The golf cart would not start, despite cranking it for half a minute. Managed to push it back until it hit the snowdrift, left just enough room to wheel the snow blower out. It has AC electric start. Cord would not reach the one outlet in the barn, so I had to go fetch an extension cord. And I thought, "You know, that fuel tank might be empty." So I brought along a plastic liter bottle of gas, too. Good thing. Tank was dry. Added the gas, plugged in the starter, and vrooom! Plowed my way to the garage, and filled the tank right up. Left a battery charge on the golf cart overnight.

397 316. That sounds good! Off grid here, so we do something similar with a thermal cooker instead of the crock pot. Take it to the stove and boil every 6-8 hours. Makes the meat really tender, and if you aren't ready for it yet, bring it to a boil and back in the (not sure what to call that insulating case). Thermal cooker works pretty well for hot meals after the kids' orchestra stuff in the evening. I'm too poor to eat out all the time.

There's coyotes around, but not close by, afaik. Of course I worry, but Cat is 12 and Set In His Ways, so: outside when he wants and inside when he wants.

Winter time, he likes indoors better and stays in overnight when it's wet/super cold.

Summer time, he's gone most of the day & night, only stopping by for occasional snack and some rubbys.

426 In the LawnTractor, F-150 wiring, trailer saga the issue of the two relays is resolved. The one I was searching for that no one has does not involve any lighting (that I'm aware of) it does the A/C and other assorted things and is working. The other one, The blue one that FoMoCo, also, doesn't have I received from Amazon.

In the interim I've got all the lights on the truck, even the camper, working and wired and ready for me to attach a receptacle for the trailer.
And the mystery wire that blew the fuse? White is the color of the trailer wiring system not the wiring to the camper. I'll have everything ready for Sketchy when he opens up Tuesday morning.

These two are pretty good. They use the litter box. Okay, one crapped in a closet yesterday morning to deliver a message that 6 am is when they want to go out. But they are great cats.

Don't damage things. Jump on tables but don't knock things down.

I took care of their mother and aunt when our friends would go out of town. I was there when they clawed through window screens and became outdoor cats.

These two are experiencing indoor life and we're doing a good sell. I still put them in and out a lot, but they hang around the house or our friends across the street.

Still worry about them.

Thanks for the counselling....

Oh, wasn't meant as "couseling" LOL! Your 2 borrowed critters are young, yes? They'll be trainable. (for certain values of the word)

Cat had been a neighbor's Barn Cat for almost a decade, before he ended up in my yard. That's how I know his age and history-- I "stole" him quite by accident and had a long chat with the neighbors. They understand, although the lady seemed extremely pissed off, at first. Long story.

So, Cat never learned about the litter box and was very shy about coming indoors for a long time. Doesn't like to be picked up or held closely, doesn't play much with toys except catnip mouse. Heh. Claws are *razor* sharp and deadly, but he gives a good soft-paw warning when he's had enough of petting. Woe if we ignore it!

Anyway-- he's our cat now, with their blessing. They get to see him, but we get the vet bills. Hmmmm...........

Respectfully, no offense taken, 'cause you don't know the lay of the land, here.

See, Wal-Mart is on Seawall Blvd, and about a third of their year-round business IS TOURISTS. Even in the grocery. The huge number of full-kitchened condos rented out here, the tourists got the cookin' goin' on, too.

Depot is where the locals in the know come to make the tamale hook-ups. Damn few tourists on that acreage.

Believe it or not, more than a few tourists WILL alert store security (who don't give a damn) or the local cops (who sometimes do), about "street vendors" dealing in the wally world lot.

Yes, those are yankees, why'dja ask?

Schmoos were a storyline in L'il Abner. They were a mythical creature whose entire life was dedicated to being eaten by people. And their eyes could be used as buttons. The proliferation of Schmoos wrecked the entire economy, because nobody worked any more. Schmoos would simply jump into your skillet and immolate themselves for your dinner. One could think of it as a satire on EBT cards.

Thank you so much nurse.

We both have and had weather on our side.

Snowflake is going out less and less but I'm sure she's under a porch now. Sleeping. Like Trumpy.

Bastards.

That I love and thank God for always returning to me happy and healthy.

By the way...the worst...phantom meowing. I think I hear them, go check, not there. I really hate that.

Thank you nurse as always!

I remember some of that because I did research on them a few years back.

And considering current entertainment, I'm happy to go backwards.

You have a great week too.

I'm always amused to see Alberta because I can only imagine what the weather is like.

There was one episode of, I think, "Ice Road Truckers" or something similar.

One guy commented. "Yeah, minus 20 isn't too bad, but ypu really feel it at minus 30."

LOL! Our ol' doggy like mousecicles, too! But... she would actually eat them. Eww.

She liked the squirrels and rabbits, too.

She was a "digger"-- would take treats (or whatever she'd caught/killed) and bury them for later. Sometimes it was kinda gross.

The fact that they close some rather major streets for it, like Las Vegas Blvd, otherwise known as "The Strip", might have something to do with it. And, Vegas. Nothing really gets happening until late night.

Posted by: JQ at November 24, 2024 02:12 AM (njWTi)

526 This year is make or break for the LV F1 race. The contract was only for 2 years with options to extend. Last year had major disruptions for literally months getting setup, this year was quicker, but still... I was in Vegas last year the week before the race and it definitely screwed up a lot. For instance, the sidewalk in front of the Bellagio was closed. That's a major attraction ( the fountains) with 40% of the viewing area gone. After the race, there was a lot of complaints - the big hotels made a bundle, but all the smaller venues were down significantly in revenue. Plus, a lot of the people there for the race were European, so tip income was down, too. Not everyone there thinks that ZF1 is worth it.
