How many of you can name all 50 State Capitals? I get mixed up on a few,
but for the most part, I can. But over the years, some states have relocated
their capital to a different city for various reasons. Do you know that last
time this occurred? If you said Oklahoma in 1910, give yourself a high-five!
Admitted to the United States in 1907, Oklahoma’s first capital was Guthrie.
Then in 1910, voters approved a ballot measure to move the capital 30-ish
miles south to Oklahoma City.

25 states have relocated their capital at least once – here’s a lighthearted judgment of each of those states.

20 My memory is sketchy, but I think Oklahoma was 100% counties for Trump before, once. The weirdness factor is that OKC, Tulsa and Lawton went his way. Those are the left-side strongholds in the state.

Every other issue it's 2/3 left and 1/3 right. But the place actually broke 50-50 on the presidential question.

And the elections secretary could save herself a hell of a lot of headache if she would forbid same-day voter registrations.

28 I didn't see Wisconsin on that list. IIRC, Milwaukee was the first capitol, but partisans from Madison stole the seal. The state (territory?) capitol changed as a result; they couldn't do business without the seal.

The hits keep coming! Today a Italian Cheese and Grocery opened in central Tennessee. In Sparta of all places. I don't have to drive out of state any more for decent supplies.

Two days of "webinar" at 8 hours each, then some free web based training over the weekend and passed the test tonight. It's very much an overview that doesn't dive into anything technical, but hey, free cert.

It also comes with (if you express an interest) a free AI course that I haven't got to just yet.

I'll let you all know when I see anything for later offerings along these lines. Or check the VA News email that goes out once a week, that's how I found out about it.

So he broke up with me, for no reason, every season of a year til I told him to leave me alone. That cured him. No trouble since.

I probably have close to a ton of sorted fasteners, nuts, bolts and washers, sorted by size and thread pitch, etc. Mostly washed and degreased. Have you priced nuts and bolts at the hardware store lately? And most hardware store fasteners are low-grade steel, to boot. Good points. The media is forced to react differently this time. They're facing extinction otherwise. But the damage they've done to the average lefty is beyond repair. The avg lefty has been riled up over Trump for 9 years. The media did that to them. Second, I hope you got a really nice box for his remains. My suggestion is to put it on the mantle. That's what I did with my mom's remains.

About a year after she died, we had somebody come to the door demanding to speak to her.
I said "Hey wait a minute, I'll get her. " I went and grabbed the box and presented it to him. "Here she is!"
He gave me a really weird look and just walked away.

The silent majority spoke loudly at the polls. I noted a huge lack of Trump signs this year anywhere I went. We were simply waiting to strike.

That's what I don't get. I'm not exactly splitting atoms with my brain but it was obvious to anyone who actually followed the race Trump was going to win. It was only by how much.

Trump had an army of red hat wearing white supremacist Nazis, including a large number of whom were Hispanic and black, who were constantly at his rallies and very publicly supporting him. Harris had paid twerkers and bussed in paid "supporters".

And Trump had taken over the RNC and their primary focus was election integrity including thousands of paid lawyers and poll watchers in swing states. They announced what they were going to do for months. Actually make elections as secure as possible for the first time in years. And they did.

There were always more of us than them. That's why they cheat. Stop the cheat, win elections. It's not a hard equation.

407 Heh. I just took apart 4 TPMS sensors taken from the wheels on my 2008 Suburban. Bought from Amazon, cheap, installed them when I put the last set of tires on, maybe 5 years ago? They failed last Winter. Well, their little batteries were all stone dead. Maxell CR2032's, all test zero volts. Makes me wonder if the devices were on the shelf for a long time before they were sold to me. The OEM sensors lasted a lot longer than that. Doing without, for now. Stupid useless system, anyway.

I have had sushi in a classy Japanese restaurant, and it was fine, but not so wonderful that I would Jones for it. What I do love, and wish I could get more often, is ceviche, which is white sea fish marinated in lemon juice until it goes from translucent to white. Basically pickled or cold-cooked. Very yummy.

What I do love, and wish I could get more often, is ceviche, which is white sea fish marinated in lemon juice until it goes from translucent to white. Basically pickled or cold-cooked. Very yummy.

Yeah, it's a PITA. I got snow tires right after I bought my car, on their own rims... freaking 60 bucks apiece for the "required" TPMS, which began failing at 5 years. Unnerving, to see that idiot light 'on' all the time.

I'm not equipped to bust-over my own tires, so took them in & had shop replace all the sensors. (For the price of a used set of snow tires from another car which we no longer own...)

Yay, regained some space in the barn!

Factory sensors still good.

Not sure I'll ever replace any more sensors, though. I know how to check tire pressure, LOL.

I was at a formal Japanese luncheon, sat on the tatami mats & all.. Multi-course meal.. and was served all kinds of *interesting* dishes.

Among them, a lovely large prawn! Head-on and pink-red, just made me drool. Took a huge bite.

Paraphrased/ condensed: the merchants that hiked up into the hinterlands of Japan with supplies would carry rice, fish, kelp, and vinegar with them. Accidents happened but the merchants wouldn't throw away the cargo and sold it as a mix. Your mileage may vary.

Most North American cars and pickups use the same bulbs, and the same filaments in them for both stop and turn functions. The turn signal switch connects both bulbs to the stop light switch when no turn is selected. When a turn is selected, the bulb for that side is disconnected from the stop light switch, and connected to the signal flasher.

Turn signals get their power normally from the accessory terminal of the ignition switch, and won't work if the key is off. Stop lights get their power from the battery side of the ignition switch, and will work if the key is off. Four-way flashers are powered the same way. First thing to check in this case? Try the 4-way flashers.

I don't know what model, either. If there are amber turn signals at the rear, then the turn signals don't have parts in common with the brake lights. I think my Suburbans have three bulbs in each tail light assembly. One is reverse lamp only, one is tail lamp only, and one is tail plus stop/turn.

Yep. I'm in an area that turned Hispanic. Lot of tilapia (which I do not like);. Lost pretty much everything here not Hispanic, the Italian deli, the Russian deli, 3 pizza joints, 2 fresh fish stores, etc. Now it's different food, some quite good. If you like a fried breaded steak, try the Peruvian bifstek empanizado. Yum. But it's not 'American' food, not yet, though the Mexican is the closest to 'American' there is and it's not really American but more Mexican. Tacos aren't crispy and the meat isn't flavored ground paste, for example.

But I do miss good Italian food/ingredients.

FEMA was, IIRC, created by Executive Order, and it should be possible to end it the same way. It doesn't serve any useful purpose anymore; just gets in the way, and is a sinecure for drones. The Army Corps of Engineers could be tasked with the heavy lifting.

I miss the old days when monkfish was considered a trash fish. Decades ago, bought some as I never had it before. Butter and lemon, steamed. Delicious. Best description I've ever read was 'tastes like lobster' and they're not far wrong. That's a good 'trash' fish. But it's a trash fish no more no more. Expensive. Very expensive.

I still laugh at lobster being a trash fish in Colonial New England as it was considered beneath the rich people of the day and food fit only for servants.

I'll give them credit for Memphis style BBQ, a personal favorite of our family, but that's about all. Been to the Delta a couple of times, and it's definitely just as you describe. Especially around Clarksdale, near where Robert Johnson allegedly sold his soul to the Devil to gain the talents of a Blues legend. I'm obviously rather skeptical of the idea, but in the part of the Delta, it's eerie enough that you can envision something like that taking place. Add in some bottle trees and overhearing comments about Hoodoo and High John the Conqueror, and the eerie quotient goes up to X Files/Twilight Zone levels. An academic friend of mine theorizes that the Robert Johnson legend might arise from folk belief in the Loa, specifically Papa Legba, the Voodoo deity who is associated with doorways and crossroads - and of course, Johnson was said to have made his famous bargain at the crossroad just outside Clarksdale.

No matter what the husband/teacher said, the kid wouldn't stop.

(The kid is a known "problem student" and troublemaker, so this wasn't much of a surprise.)

So the teacher eventually just calmly lifted the device out of the kid's hand and put it on a side table, saying that the kid would get it back after class... (con't)...

563 Unrelated to any of my few comments earlier, but there is this amazingly insane WWII film scheduled for release that many might enjoy - "Dick Dynamite-1944." The trailer is making the rounds now, and it looks awesome. Imagine a combination of "The Dirty Dozen," "Where Eagles Dare," and the popular pulp novels of the Thirties and Forties. It may turn up in one of Ace's "Is This Something" threads. People are trying to label it as a Grindhouse-style production, but I think a better description would be WWII Jack Reacher with a lack of impulse control and anger management issues. One scene in the trailer has the hero, undercover, about to attend an elegant dinner party. 'What kind of party is this, he asks the doorman, who replies that "It's a Nazi party." The hero smiles and says "My favorite kind." Things for the Nazis do not go well after that. I can't guarantee that it will be to everybody's liking, but it's worth having a look at it.

Well, like you -- I'm ready. Got the hatches battened down. Spent the last 18 months "hardscaping" my yard and house in preparation of this exact moment. (Previous El Nino years caused a lot of water problems for me.) Let's hope it holds!

As a kid in the Carolinas (warmer parts) I liked it when somebody spotted a single snowflake within a 50 mile radius and school was cancelled.

When I was a kid, had an aunt who lived in a house where if you wanted water you had to go outside and pump the handle. There was no running water inside the house. That meant an outhouse, too. Sometime in the late '70s-early '80s she got running water and got rid of that foul outhouse.

But I'm young enough to say I've used an outhouse, not just a port-a-potty (which are bad enough). The stench from a 2-hole outhouse in the summer simply cannot be described. Great for 'holding your breath' excercises as swimming practice; if you breathe, you drown in a miasma of toxicity (the real kind).

At the time, this was an outhouse for a family of four. Mother and kids; uncle died when I was like 6.

My funny story is my Mom always called the outhouse 'Miss Jones'. She'd say she's going to visit Miss Jones. As a kid, I wondered who this Miss Jones was and why did my Mom never take me to meet her? I was such a dumb kid.
