So I took out one of the nasty-smelling valerian root capsules I bought earlier this year for help with my sleep and let Stirling and Dagny sniff it. Both seemed intrigued.

I wonder what would have happened if I'd let them have the capsule to sniff and play with. Is valerian dangerous to cats? Cats will lap up antifreeze even though it's poisonous, because it's sweet.

I'm not too surprised, Anna. There are very few representations of such in pop culture aside from the cute ones we saw in Disney's Fantasia. My vision is of a dark-haired woman, hair braided or cut short, wearing a deerhide jacket with a dagger on a belt around her human waist where it meets the equine body. The horse body is dark too, but a chestnut or even buckskin coat color would be good as well.

Very strict construction laws here and high penalties for ignoring and damaging any antiquities.

In many areas, Jerusalem being one of them, you have to summon the government's Antiquities Authority during certain phases of clearing and construction to come onsite and verify that it's OK to continue, even when nothing has been found.

Many a project has been held up when something was discovered. I assume the same was true in this case.

Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address in Gettysburg, PA. Lincoln had been invited to give a "few appropriate remarks" during a ceremony to dedicate a cemetery for Union soldiers killed at the battle of Gettysburg.

Despite its brevity and the fact that it earned little attention at the time, the Gettysburg Address is considered on of Lincoln's greatest speeches.

312 Hey, we're nearing 300 comments. Morning erections are the best. From the GatewayPundit

The Democratic National Committee (DNC), the party that claims to champion workers’ rights, has left its own staff out in the cold. Permanent staffers were given a single day’s notice before being unceremoniously terminated—without severance.

The DNC Staff Union took to X to air their grievances, stating, “One day’s notice, no severance—the DNC fights for workers, just not their own.”

The irony is so thick you could cut it with a knife. This is the same party that campaigns on workers’ rights, union support, and economic justice. Yet when it comes to their own, the rules apparently do not apply.

According to the union’s statement, this isn’t your run-of-the-mill post-election staff reduction. These were permanent staffers who had assurances that their roles were secure post-election.

But as of Wednesday, these commitments seem to be worth about as much as a campaign promise.

By Friday, these staffers were out on the street with no severance in hand, despite the DNC enjoying a period of record-breaking fundraising.

And, Pediatrician recommended cough medicine of boiled, cool water; maybe containing tea, definitely containing whiskey, lemon and sugar or honey. (Caffeinated tea could 'wind the kids up" so it might be skipped and no honey for babies

*Medscape: After warnings of the association between Reye syndrome and aspirin were issued in 1986, the incidence of Reye syndrome decreased substantially, from a high of 0.63 per 100,000 children younger than 12 years in 1983-1984 to 0.11 cases per 100,000 in 1990-1991.

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at November 19, 2024 09:57 AM (J2vNu)

Valerian isn't poisonous to cats, but it's similar to catnip--you can let them play with a little of it, but don't want to let them OD, since too much can make them sick or even addicted. We had a cat once that toppled a wastebasket and scattered all the contents to get at an empty plastic valerian bottle at the bottom; just the smell of the bottle was exciting enough for him to use it as his favorite toy for a while, batting it around and wrestling with it.

Severance pay is often granted to employees upon termination of employment. It is usually based on length of employment for which an employee is eligible upon termination. There is no requirement in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) for severance pay.

Oh, well. So much for its precious Labor Department.
