God Bless America Why I Love America: A Reader’s Reflections on Why America Is a Beacon of Hope for the World From inception, this nation has always fought for the differentiating line between what is right and what is wrong, democracy and tyranny. Today, the clarity of this line is getting foggier by the day. Despite all the opposite political views and beliefs, we as a nation are looked upon as the leader for the free world, whether we like it or not. America is looked upon as the lighthouse more than we realize—a beacon and a symbol of hope, freedom, and liberty. Anyone keeping up with current events has witnessed hope eroding in zones within our own borders and around the world. There are countries in every continent struggling to maintain their freedoms or have lost them. Despite these man-made challenges, a symbol of hope was proudly displayed when countless Hong Kong citizens waved the American flag during the 2019–2020 democracy protests. The red, white, and blue waving proudly and high showed communist rule and the rest of the world that democracy and freedom are worth fighting for. The internal strife we are facing today has a lasting effect on the principles set forth by our Founding Fathers. The sacrifices generations before us made to ensure our freedoms are what laid the very foundation for this country, and what sets us apart from any other nation since civilization has been recorded.Indeed. Jeremy Clarkson rages countryside is being 'ethnically cleansed' for 'new towns of immigrants' in furious tax rant
Hell in the US there are towns that I lived in that are mostly immigrants now. And it is fascinating to see just how much the character of those towns have changed based on where the immigrants have come from. And if we weren't stupid this would be an obvious point. If you replace half the population of a town with say a bunch of Freedonians then Freedonian norms and customs will follow. Posted by: 18-1 at November 14, 2024 10:12 PM (oZhjI) 35

The GatewayPundit...jobs at DOGE
s The Gateway Pundit previously reported, President Trump has tapped Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). In his statement, Trump said, “I am pleased to announce that the Great Elon Musk, working in conjunction with American Patriot Vivek Ramaswamy, will lead the Department of Government Efficiency (“DOGE”. Trump added, “Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies.” Musk and Ramaswamy are wasting no time putting together a team and have put out a statement on X that they are looking for “super high-IQ small-government revolutionaries” who are looking to work at the newly created department. The department stated on the official DOGE account on X, “We are very grateful to the thousands of Americans who have expressed interest in helping us at DOGE. We don’t need more part-time idea generators.” The statement added, “We need super high-IQ small-government revolutionaries willing to work 80+ hours per week on unglamorous cost-cutting. Some of my fellow faculty members were real a**holes today.
Yesterday, one of them put out a proposal to make an official statement that the college was a safe space for women and trannies, despite the "racism and bullying" that stemmed from Trump's re-election. Another teacher pointed out this sounded rather political and divisive, and said he thought it would be a bad idea. At least half a dozen other faculty proceeded to jump down his throat, basically telling him he had no right to make people feel unsafe. One woman said she wanted him reported to the administration, and added she would be pushing her kids to attend a different college so they could stay away from this kind of bigotry. Bottom line, the proposal's been kicked over to the DEI committee for further consideration, and there are now two factions at each other's throats among the faculty. Oh happy day. The claim, IIRC, was that he libeled one of the parents by claiming the government was somehow behind the event. Which would mean the parent was in on it by proxy I guess - I've never seen an example of this before. Usually you have to directly attack a non public individual, and the FNM will usually claim a conservative in this case would already be a public figure and therefore can't sue. I too have been so very happy this past week re the election results. But I had a reality check today. Visiting the SC State House for a tour, the guide informed us the governor would be holding a presser, so we stayed around. In fact, it wasn't the governor, but the Republic Freedom Caucus. Those Republican representatives that consider themselves Conservative Republicans, and refuse to sign the Republicans oath of loyalty (so even there the Republicans are split). Saw very clearly that wining this election was important, but only the first battle of the war. The war? Against entitlement, $$ and power in both the parties. May God have mercy on us....

This morning's rant asked 'Was the entire state of California dropped on its collective head in the late 1990s?'
I've lived here since graduating college many years ago. My roots are NY and Fla. But - I married out here, raised a family, anyone I consider family is here (I have none of my own other than my sons), our lives are here. Do we get frustrated - sure. Will we leave in the future - maybe. But we still have elderly parental obligations here so we stay. I can't see selling my house. We may relocate to a state that doesn't tax IRA rollovers as much as Calif does (14%). One last thing. I've noticed while the legislature is hopelessly locked into a dem super-majority, in the last several elections, the state ballot initiatives went mostly the way the R's wanted them too, including the last election. I don't know what to make of that. All I can say is it's not that easy for some of us to pick up and vote with our feet. lastly - one word about the weather, which everybody talks about but no one ever does anything about. While it does get 'not hot' here for several months, if I were to not run my heater, no fear of pipes freezing. It never gets that cold. The Conjuring was a really good horror movie. That said:
The other night I had a true nightmare, involving a kid who had been possessed by a demon. It took a long time for me to wake up. And it was the fake wake-up. When I finally did, I was one big goosebump. I had to whizz, but it took me some time to summon the courage to do so. And whilst pissing, I was sure there was a demon in the shower. I don't get paralysis, but every once in a great while I'll hear voices, just as I'm going to sleep.
Usually it's my mother, yelling at me to get my lazy ass out of bed and get ready for school. I guess this is not an unusual thing.... hypnogogic something something. What I hate about it is waking up and realizing that it's been decades since I heard that for real, and that she's been gone for fifteen years. It is nice to hear her voice, though, even if it does lead to some sadness. Posted by: Rodrigo Borgia at November 14, 2024 10:51 PM (W5ArC) 183

One last thing. I've noticed while the legislature is hopelessly locked into a dem super-majority, in the last several elections, the state ballot initiatives went mostly the way the R's wanted them too, including the last election. I don't know what to make of that.
I suspect the legislature is due to massive fraud. Notice that in right leaning states there is always a concern that some left leaning candidate will win if the right leaning candidates do poorly enough and how that isn't a fear in the blue enclaves? You can have an idiot like Kamala destroying her state and the voters and re-election is just not a concern... Posted by: 18-1 at November 14, 2024 10:57 PM (oZhjI) 200

Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at November 14, 2024 10:48 PM (7oYYI) My sleep apnea went away when I lost weight. I had the 'can't move a muscle' experience while in a party-awake state, many times. My semi-awake brain believed an animal had jumped on the bed and was walking on it towards me. Scary. Especially when you can't move. Posted by: Gref at November 14, 2024 10:58 PM (aBgBM) 201

I've had sleep paralysis before. And it is an odd experience.
My most memorable one I was taking a nap during college with my girlfriend sleeping next to me with me on the outside. I awoke to find a classic looking alien from fiction standing above me looking down at me. And so I tried to sit up and I could not because I was paralyzed. So I tried to yell and I could not because I was paralyzed. I then exerted myself for as hard as a could for what seemed an eternity and finally I sat up wide awake. There was of course no alien next to me and my girlfriend was asleep. And I could hear people walking too and from outside my door in my dorm. Reading about other people's sleep paralysis diagnose this seems to fit the general experience pretty well. And I'm not one to believe in aliens anyway. Of course, they'll be tearing each other to pieces soon enough - they can't help themselves. That's what happened to Mastodon, which is grouped into "federations" - some left-wing federations got mad at other left-wing federations and cut off all communications with them, which helps explain why Mastodon went back to being completely marginal. Prescription drugs are regulated products that you can't even buy. A doctor has to prescribe them. So what's the point of direct-to-consumer advertising?
In the early 2000s, the line pushed by Big Pharma was that informed consumers should take charge of their medical care and be equal partners with their physicians. Hence, all the "ask your physician about" advertising. Then Big Pharma got in bed with Obama and his even more statist vision of healthcare. And Big Pharma has also since jumped on the whole defer-to-experts bandwagon in its push to force vaccines on everyone. Screw Big Pharma. I'm not sticking up for its "right" to anything. Also, the drug ads are tightly-regulated as-is. Everything in them is pretty boilerplate, which is why they all sound so odd. You can’t make claims about a drug that have not been proven to the FDA’s satisfaction. It’s not a big blow to free speech to further restrict or ban ads. Another major issue parallel to the ads are drug reps bribing doctors. It’s insane we allow this. Posted by: Avena sativa at November 15, 2024 12:06 AM (4qKFc) 378

Hang the crooks and the others will straighten up. Posted by: Braenyard at November 15, 2024 12:10 AM (B/Bn+) You’re right, but it’s still pretty bad. The problem is, there’s no real punishment of pharma companies or execs for doing bad things, and the FDA is set up—by design—to fail. The FDA can’t tell you which drugs are safe or which are killing people, because they don’t know themselves. In spite of all of this, many good drugs make it to market, and many good people work in the industry. But it needs a thorough cleansing, starting with the FDA. There's an article in AARP (commie central), anyway, concerning the use of drugs off label that cure/help/extend vitality.
"Four drugs SGLT inhibitors, metformin, bisphosphonates and GLP-1 - all FDA approved to treat specific health conditions , will be used off-label as preventatives for an array of age-related diseases." Haven't parsed it out but the concept is coming around. Also, it's very difficult to find what off label usage they do with each drug. Posted by: Braenyard at November 15, 2024 12:26 AM (B/Bn+) 409

I waited until the last day of decent weather to get the leaves off the lawn. I like to pull the bagger chute off the riding mower, run over the leaves a few times to mulch them, and then collect the much reduced volume with the bagger.
I got a late start today. Checked the mower fuel tank and found I only had three quarter's of a tank. Went to top off the tank and found I didn't have a drop of gasoline in all my spare gas cans. Going to town and getting gas would mean I would run out of daylight. Hopped on the mower and got started. I was expecting the engine to sputter and die at any second, but got finished just at dusk. Checked the tank and had just a film of gas left in the bottom. I am grateful for the small things. Posted by: Idaho Spudboy at November 15, 2024 12:36 AM (h7ER3) 423

Oh, yes-- on leaving oven door open after baking!
It's 30s-40s overnight here now, looking at 40s-50s highs next week and some rain/snow mix next couple of nights. I just pray the damned pellet heater doesn't break down beyond my ability to repair. Otherwise, all is hunky-dory. Posted by: JQ at November 15, 2024 02:46 AM (njWTi) 497

HOLY MOLY, Jim SND!!! Oh, I'm so very sorry... "it" is advancing that quickly?! More prayers on the way! Posted by: JQ at November 15, 2024 02:50 AM (njWTi) 498
495 Jim in CA. I gotcha kinda beat, tonite.
I *did* stand up on my hind legs and do the chicken breasts in the skillet. Yay, me. Only to find that I'm going to start running the damn things through the blender to make a pudding for dinner. JQ. I think it was already about that far along, before I caved in and submitted to medical attention.
Prior to. Why would Superman even NEED medical attention? My Dr. of +15 years said, "I was his most boring patient". Never presented with symptoms, problems or complaints. Other than longstanding B.P. meds, NOTHING. Last Dr. appt, 6 months ago. 216lb. Presented at E.R., three weeks ago. 175 lbs. And the lost was muscle, not fat. Didn't have all much of that, to spare. And, WEAK. Kitten, weak. No endurance. TxMoMeet, doc Aviator gave me a 10 min look, and chewed my ass straight to the E.R. on Monday. So, here we are. Here I am. I can still cook. I can still drive. I can still type and rant here at the Horde. So far, so good! Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at November 15, 2024 02:59 AM (Xo+UM) 500

Aw, man... You sound like my hubby. Superman, indeed! Had to *drag him* to Dr., when his legs & abdomen were so swollen and he could barely walk... "I'm FINE! I don't need a doctor!" Uh-huh. Sorry to hear of your diagnosis, Jim. That truly sucks. I hope they're wrong and that you prove them so. Posted by: JQ at November 15, 2024 03:05 AM (njWTi) 501
JQ. Thanks.
Year ago, I had Popeye forearms. Hand-strength of a steelworker. Thighs and calves of an Olympian. When I began to resemble a "camp" survivor, I knew I wasn't right. When I couldn't do 20 min of welding and grinding, I knew I wasn't right. Years pasts, I'd show up at the TxMoMeet with 25 guns and 10k rds ammo, and 200 lbs asst. gear. This year, I came with only my folding rocking chair. I knew I was in no shape to RSO the firing lines, or even to shoot thereon. Was happy to eat, sip, and be Moron. Jim in Kali-- best wishes for you as well!
I felt like such a puss today, begrudging my lot as I worked alone in the yard. It wasn't supposed to be this way, ya know? At least one of us can still *do* here. For how long? Who knows. But here we are. Posted by: JQ at November 15, 2024 03:12 AM (njWTi) Posted by: JQ at November 15, 2024 03:14 AM (njWTi) 504
Jim, I said it a few nights ago, but I'll say it again in case you had logged off. If it gets to the point where you can't type, just drop your fist on the keyboard to let us know you're here. We'll consider you part of the conversation, although none of us can imitate your style! Posted by: Blonde Morticia at November 15, 2024 03:23 AM (lCaJd) 505

I've considered every year I've had since starting dialysis (and then transplant) as extra, like overtime in a football game. I wish I could've had twice as many years with my wife, but am grateful for the 26 I had with her. She too had been living in "overtime" for more than a decade with her metastatic cancer. I can only pray for healing and God's grace and mercy. Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia) at November 15, 2024 03:46 AM (ynpvh) Posted by: JQ at November 15, 2024 03:48 AM (njWTi) 511
Morning, fellow insomaniacals! JQ, Skip, Morticia, and especially Jim, a very good Friday to you all. ALLF -- At Long Last, Friday!!
The cool front has come through: 61 F. with a "feels like" of 60. When I go for my workout I'll need to wear long sleeves for the first time since, well, DJT and MushBrain's debate was still three months in the future, that's how long ago it was. And little Dagny La Siberienne was actually sleeping curled against me when I woke up. Amazing. What's happening with you? My little device has shocked me 11 times since 2010, defibrillating my failing heart when no one was around, keeping me alive. Every cup of coffee is a sinful pleaure, as are most simple things. It's cold out tonight. Cat actually came in & walked straight back to the bed, to be hubby's li'l buddy... LOL.
I think Cat just likes the electric blanket, but shhhhh, hubby thinks Cat likes *him*. (I suspect it's a bit of both.) Hahaha Posted by: JQ at November 15, 2024 03:54 AM (njWTi) 515
Milei meeting Trump at Mar-A-Lago had such a good feel to it. You can see Milei has genuine affection for Trump and Trump for Milei.

A moth got in last night, and the cats have been hunting it off and on ever since. I just saw it in the kitchen. So did Stirling, and boy was he after it. It seems to have managed to evade the furry killers so far.

If one day I have to give up, say bacon, hey, I enjoyed it for 29+ years. We all get to meet our Maker eventually, sooner or later. Funny, Wolfus!
Mom had a cat, what *loved* to hunt zee bugz... especially anything on the ceiling! Cat would dial-in on moth, spider, whatever, and one of us kids would lift her up for the kill. Fun! Posted by: JQ at November 15, 2024 04:02 AM (njWTi) Processing 0.09, elapsed 0.0912 seconds. |
