Hell in the US there are towns that I lived in that are mostly immigrants now. And it is fascinating to see just how much the character of those towns have changed based on where the immigrants have come from.
And if we weren't stupid this would be an obvious point. If you replace half the population of a town with say a bunch of Freedonians then Freedonian norms and customs will follow.

Yesterday, one of them put out a proposal to make an official statement that the college was a safe space for women and trannies, despite the "racism and bullying" that stemmed from Trump's re-election. Another teacher pointed out this sounded rather political and divisive, and said he thought it would be a bad idea.
At least half a dozen other faculty proceeded to jump down his throat, basically telling him he had no right to make people feel unsafe. One woman said she wanted him reported to the administration, and added she would be pushing her kids to attend a different college so they could stay away from this kind of bigotry.
Bottom line, the proposal's been kicked over to the DEI committee for further consideration, and there are now two factions at each other's throats among the faculty. Oh happy day.

The claim, IIRC, was that he libeled one of the parents by claiming the government was somehow behind the event. Which would mean the parent was in on it by proxy I guess - I've never seen an example of this before.
Usually you have to directly attack a non public individual, and the FNM will usually claim a conservative in this case would already be a public figure and therefore can't sue.

I've lived here since graduating college many years ago. My roots are NY and Fla. But - I married out here, raised a family, anyone I consider family is here (I have none of my own other than my sons), our lives are here.
Do we get frustrated - sure. Will we leave in the future - maybe. But we still have elderly parental obligations here so we stay. I can't see selling my house. We may relocate to a state that doesn't tax IRA rollovers as much as Calif does (14%).
One last thing. I've noticed while the legislature is hopelessly locked into a dem super-majority, in the last several elections, the state ballot initiatives went mostly the way the R's wanted them too, including the last election. I don't know what to make of that.
All I can say is it's not that easy for some of us to pick up and vote with our feet. lastly - one word about the weather, which everybody talks about but no one ever does anything about. While it does get 'not hot' here for several months, if I were to not run my heater, no fear of pipes freezing. It never gets that cold.

The other night I had a true nightmare, involving a kid who had been possessed by a demon.
It took a long time for me to wake up. And it was the fake wake-up.
When I finally did, I was one big goosebump. I had to whizz, but it took me some time to summon the courage to do so. And whilst pissing, I was sure there was a demon in the shower.
I am not prone to feeling the supernatural, but I think I did that night.

There's something called sleep paralysis which is a very powerful experience.
I had it once when I was a kid and it was so different, terrifying that it stayed with me always.
Basically your mind wakes up but your body doesn't. I think it explains a percentage of ufo abductees stories....

I read about sleep paralysis in high school and was terrified of getting it. I wouldn't sleep on my back because I read that was the most common position in which you would experience it.
Sounds silly in retrospect, but that's what happens when you're a kid and you read that you might wake up to find a demon sitting on your chest and leering at you.

My sleep apnea went away when I lost weight. I had the 'can't move a muscle' experience while in a party-awake state, many times. The worst experience was having one of my legs start going up and down, pounding on the mattress. I later learned this is common with sleep apnea. My semi-awake brain believed an animal had jumped on the bed and was walking on it towards me. Scary. Especially when you can't move.

My most memorable one I was taking a nap during college with my girlfriend sleeping next to me with me on the outside.
I awoke to find a classic looking alien from fiction standing above me looking down at me. And so I tried to sit up and I could not because I was paralyzed. So I tried to yell and I could not because I was paralyzed.
I then exerted myself for as hard as a could for what seemed an eternity and finally I sat up wide awake. There was of course no alien next to me and my girlfriend was asleep. And I could hear people walking too and from outside my door in my dorm.
Reading about other people's sleep paralysis diagnose this seems to fit the general experience pretty well. And I'm not one to believe in aliens anyway.

I won't eat at any restaurant that has a "scan only" menu.
Somewhat related, an ice cream shop opened up nearby. I wanted to try it out, but when I went in there were several "No!" items. The price was high, not a deal breaker but painful. Then the ice cream list had no descriptions. How do I know what "Scottish Lassie" is supposed to taste? Final straw though was the sign that said they didn't accept cash, and them telling the older guy in front of me that they only did virtual receipts. I turned around and walked out.

You can't buy them without an MD signing off on them, and MD's have their own preferences for RX and diagnoses, so you aren't actually impacting the market as long as the FDA is listing them as restricted
What is actually going on is big Harma is buying massive numbers of spots on cable to make sure that no one meddles with "the primal forces of nature" since no business will say bad things about their most lucrative customer. And if they kill a bunch of kids, well, that gets reported on Rebel news maybe , not MSNBC where people will see it.

Good points. Also, the drug ads are tightly-regulated as-is. Everything in them is pretty boilerplate, which is why they all sound so odd. You can’t make claims about a drug that have not been proven to the FDA’s satisfaction. It’s not a big blow to free speech to further restrict or ban ads.
Another major issue parallel to the ads are drug reps bribing doctors. It’s insane we allow this.

Also not in the business of doing much safety testing or monitoring of their products. They will knowingly keep bad drugs on the market for years because the extra profit they make more than pays the fines and lawsuit settlements. They don’t go to prison and pharma execs make huge bonuses on successful drugs.

You’re right, but it’s still pretty bad. The problem is, there’s no real punishment of pharma companies or execs for doing bad things, and the FDA is set up—by design—to fail. The FDA can’t tell you which drugs are safe or which are killing people, because they don’t know themselves.
In spite of all of this, many good drugs make it to market, and many good people work in the industry. But it needs a thorough cleansing, starting with the FDA.

I have no doubt there's Big Pharma, but I also believe in pharma. There are medications out there that are improving and prolonging people's lives.
The things I hate are the treatments for every psychological tic, like Adult ADHD whatever that is.

Any original work of fiction that gets made into a film counts in my view.
Only a minority of "Shakespeare movies" are just pointing a camera at the stage. Usually the plays are starting points, just like novels are.

I got a late start today. Checked the mower fuel tank and found I only had three quarter's of a tank. Went to top off the tank and found I didn't have a drop of gasoline in all my spare gas cans. Going to town and getting gas would mean I would run out of daylight.
Hopped on the mower and got started. I was expecting the engine to sputter and die at any second, but got finished just at dusk. Checked the tank and had just a film of gas left in the bottom. I am grateful for the small things.

I could've sworn he died during the first COVID wave, because I distinctly remember "working" from home and watching a random Dick Van Dyke Show episode on YouTube (in the comments section, the first one was "Well, they can't all be gems."), because he was in the news for having just expired.

Which is why, when Gaetz was accused of human trafficking, I waited to see the outcome before condemning him even though anti-trafficking is one of my main interests. And I wasn't surprised when it came out about a year ago that it was a blackmail scheme. Frustratingly, at least one of the major anti-trafficking orgs has managed to remain completely ignorant of that part of the story.

It's 30s-40s overnight here now, looking at 40s-50s highs next week and some rain/snow mix next couple of nights.

Prior to. Why would Superman even NEED medical attention?
My Dr. of +15 years said, "I was his most boring patient". Never presented with symptoms, problems or complaints. Other than longstanding B.P. meds, NOTHING.
Last Dr. appt, 6 months ago. 216lb. Presented at E.R., three weeks ago. 175 lbs. And the lost was muscle, not fat. Didn't have all much of that, to spare.
And, WEAK. Kitten, weak. No endurance. TxMoMeet, doc Aviator gave me a 10 min look, and chewed my ass straight to the E.R. on Monday.
So, here we are. Here I am.
I can still cook. I can still drive. I can still type and rant here at the Horde.
So far, so good!

Year ago, I had Popeye forearms. Hand-strength of a steelworker. Thighs and calves of an Olympian.
When I began to resemble a "camp" survivor, I knew I wasn't right. When I couldn't do 20 min of welding and grinding, I knew I wasn't right.
Years pasts, I'd show up at the TxMoMeet with 25 guns and 10k rds ammo, and 200 lbs asst. gear.
This year, I came with only my folding rocking chair. I knew I was in no shape to RSO the firing lines, or even to shoot thereon.
Was happy to eat, sip, and be Moron.

We're all here by God's grace. I've considered every year I've had since starting dialysis (and then transplant) as extra, like overtime in a football game. I wish I could've had twice as many years with my wife, but am grateful for the 26 I had with her. She too had been living in "overtime" for more than a decade with her metastatic cancer. I can only pray for healing and God's grace and mercy.

The cool front has come through: 61 F. with a "feels like" of 60. When I go for my workout I'll need to wear long sleeves for the first time since, well, DJT and MushBrain's debate was still three months in the future, that's how long ago it was.
