His aim of highlighting the moral shortcomings of domestic life shows the influence of William Hogarth (1697-1764). A notoriously heavy drinker and debtor, Morland spent the final years of his life enduring intermittent bouts in prison and eventually died from alcoholism aged 41. Morland's flamboyant lifestyle became the subject of four anecdotal biographies immediately after his death. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

I really like the colors and details of the clothing and props in the room. You can see and feel the textures of the wood in the floor and the textures of the cloth. The faces of the people are clear enough but don't draw attention like the artifacts and are less distinct.
However, moralizing art can be a bit boring and heavy handed which detracts from the artistry of the painting. Unless it's intended to instruct children, that approach seems condescending and 'preachy' when aimed at adults. As much as I enjoy Hogarth scenes, the heavy handed messages are a distraction. I always think the captions chosen by the original artists are too brief. On the top one, for example, I would go with "Look, Goodwife, our squalid one-room hovel has become a less-squalid hovel. Also, I have shaved, and we have a door now. We really should have thought more about that last bit. Being able to enter and leave our dwelling has many advantages. Come to think of it, are we not at least twenty years past the point age-wise where we could have produced three such young children?" Art - it speaks to you, it does.

========= Doesn't actually appear to be an intentional overdose per se but being very drunk and also taking diazepam resulted what the Brits quaintly call death by misadventure. The amusing thing is that everything that Andy Warhol did--the factory paintings, commercialized kitsch, etc. was praised more or less by art critics because he was sticking it to the normies. Thomas Kinkade, on the other hand, was catering to the normies using the same methods and was excoriated for it. That is why modern art critics and the modern art world in general suck at being human beings. The additional kicker is that people with no morals whatsoever get a wicked glee when a Christian falls as if they expect Christians to be perfect people. As CS Lewis put it, a lot of the most flawed people in the world cling to Christ because they recognized their own horrible faults and are trying desperately to remedy them. Christ himself, when criticized for associating with tax collectors, riff raff, and other socially disapproved people, told critics that he, like a doctor, administered to the people who needed him most. The whole problem with sex denial is there can't be any varying degrees of it. Not like with being amorous where there's a whole ever increasing range of intimacy and tenderness.
So you've got sex denial, that's it, nothing left below that, then next is marriage, then everything else above that. That doesn't make for a very good tool of coercion. Posted by: banana Dream at November 15, 2024 10:39 AM (Y6IkP) 298

On Thomas Kincade:
Kinkade was criticized for the extent to which he commercialized his art, for example, by selling his prints on the QVC home shopping network. Some academics expressed concerns about the implications of Kinkade's success in relation to Western perceptions of visual art: in 2009, Nathan Rabin of The A.V. Club wrote, "To his detractors, he represents the triumph of sub-mediocrity and the commercialization and homogenization of painting [...] perhaps no other painter has been as shameless or as successful at transforming himself into a corporation as Kinkade." Among such people, he is known more as a "mall artist" or a "chocolate box artist" than as a merited painter. Rabin later described Kinkade's paintings collectively as "a maudlin, sickeningly sentimental vision of a world where everything is as soothing as a warm cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows on a cold December day". I only have one thing to say to his detractors: Put up or shut up. Paint better than he did or stfu & stfd.

Whoopi said baker refused to fill her order because of her politics. The baker said she told Whoopi that their boilers were not operating properly and couldn’t guarantee the product order and thus told her she couldn’t do it. That was on the 6th . Whoopi sent in someone else and the order was filled on the 13th. Thus Whoopi thinks she was denied service intentionally. The baker said they were able to rectify some of the boiler issues which allowed them to bake the product a week later.

Wiki: New Year's Day incident On January 1, 1965, miffed at having to work on the holiday, Sales ended his live broadcast by encouraging his young viewers to tiptoe into their still-sleeping parents' bedrooms and remove those "funny green pieces of paper with pictures of U.S. presidents" from their pants and pocketbooks. "Put them in an envelope and mail them to me and I'll send you a postcard from Puerto Rico", Sales instructed the children.[12] Several days later, substantial amounts of money had begun arriving in the mail; Sales stated that the total amount received was in the thousands of dollars but qualified that by stating that much of that was Monopoly or play money.[13] Sales said he had been joking, and that whatever real money had been sent would be donated to charity, but as parents' complaints increased, WNEW's management suspended Sales for two weeks.[14] Posted by: Brother Tim, Keeper of the Tim Continuum at November 15, 2024 11:08 AM (OUMaO) 419

The conspiracies range from skepticism about vote tallies in key swing states, to allegations of a criminal coverup by Biden to force the Democrats to lose in order to (somehow eventually?) take down Trump, to claims of Russian interference with voting technology.
