49 So, this Canuck goes ice fishing. Takes along a case of cold beer. Bores a hole in the ice. A big voice says "There are no fish under the ice." Not totally stupid, he moves over several yards, bores another hole and again, the voice says "There are no fish under the ice." Now somewhat more than normally stupefied, the fella asks out loud "Is that you, God?". The voice answers "No. I'm the hockey rink manager." Tip the waitresses!

58 Took my white Suburban in for a redo of the wheel alignment. Tech spent the better part of an hour on it, including a road test. Called back into the shop to look at it on the rack. "Check the screen here. All the numbers are right on. I reduced the camber of the right front wheel a bit, because that should counteract the pull, and it's still doing it. Rear axle is less than 1/5 of a degree off square, so it's not that. There something else going on." Me, "could it be the steering box?" Him, "could be". Me: "well, I have another one of those. Could swap it out real easy. As long as the alignment is correct, I'm not going to scuff those tires right off. Let's call it done for now."

104 MisHum, aren't you supposed to be retired from ONT duties and enjoying your free time getting hammered and riding your snow machine at midnight while listening to Foghat?

I have enough complications in my life - just like me we are well past our primes - the time is now for you to don your snow mobile suit and ride off into the Northern Lights after days of pine wood fires and illicit Wisconsin liquors. Bolster your old man tits...Valhalla awaits your arrival with manly with excitement.

I am honoring you right now. I will so miss your regular later evening posts. You have given me years of great fun and community when I find myself most alone in the evenings.

With great gratitude, thank you for years of of joy.

135 How do physicists differ from engineers?

Physicists are people who believe in the harmony of the spheres, where all the laws of physics peacefully coexist, never contradicting each other. This allows physicists to play at increasingly complex mathematical explorations in which they hope to find the ultimate theories of everything.

Engineers, have to build things which actually work in the real world. They quickly discover that the laws of physics almost always conflict with each other. It is working around those conflicts that makes engineering difficult.

Want an example of those conflicts? OK, try reconciling the law of conservation of energy or the law of conservation of momentum with the Doppler shift and the photo electric effect.

Heh. I like the truck. It's just that I have to drive with my hand pulling the steering wheel just a tetch to the left all the time, to go straight down the road. If you've ever driven an old car with worn-out front-end parts, you know what it's like. But this rig has a lot of new parts in the front end, and real good tires. It should misbehave like that.

Pangaea Proxima (also called Pangaea Ultima, Neopangaea, and Pangaea II) is a possible future supercontinent configuration. Consistent with the supercontinent cycle, Pangaea Proxima could form within the next 250 million years. This potential configuration, hypothesized by Christopher Scotese in November 1982, earned its name from its similarity to the previous Pangaea supercontinent. Scotese later changed Pangaea Ultima (Last Pangaea) to Pangaea Proxima (Next Pangaea) to alleviate confusion about the name Pangaea Ultima which could imply that it would be the last supercontinent.[1]

197 Meanwhile, in Ukraine:
1. Ignore any news about "Trump says... about Ukraine" that does not come directly from his office. A lot of Fake News is being pumped out to try to influence policies.
2. The Russians are increasing their pounding on the invasion force that still occupies a little bit of Holy Mother Russia near Kursk. Oddly enough, the horde of North Koreans who were supposed to spearhead the battle have yet to appear. It almost seems they were just propaganda to get the US to panic and hand over the keys to the long range missiles.
3. The Russians have begun pushing forward in the southern sector. Their attacks are becoming more aggressive, as the Ukrainians start to show how strained their resources are.

My expectation is that much in the same way Reagan undermined his enemies in both parties by playing the amiable dunce while he set the stage for the Soviet Union's collapse, Trump will continue to confound his with canny dealmaking. Reaganomics kicked off a turnaround that the experts of the day thought impossible. 268 216 I expect Little will, years from now, reflect on casting his first Presidential Election vote for Trump in much the same way that I cast my first for Reagan back in the day. I recall the sad state America had fallen into after Nixon's resignation. Compared to the COVID mania, those years were a cakewalk.

I think Trump's energy and tariff policies will humiliate every economist that declared national debt reduction a fool's errand. May it be so. Glasses up...

286 I just wanted to stop by for 1 minute. Thanks Mis. Hum. For the thread and Pixy for keeping 1000 comment threads smooth.

So boobs and Mars.

Quick reasearch.

"And while the length of a Martian day is roughly the same as it is here on Earth (24 hours 37 minutes), the length of a Martian year is significantly longer (687 days). On top that, the gravity on Mars’ surface is much lower than it is here on Earth – 62% lower to be precise. At just 0.376 of the Earth standard (or 0.376 g), a person who weighs 100 kg on Earth would weigh only 38 kg on Mars."

So, I really like medium and small breasts, okay and some big ones. I would think boobs on Mars would be amazing due to the lower gravity not dragging them down.

Women on trampolines would be more exciting.

Females with large breast would have less back pain.

Boobs and Mars are winning! Aside from no atmosphere and possible radiation. But radiation may make even bigger boobs...

Posted by: Kindltot at November 12, 2024 11:07 PM (D7oie)

I am beginning to think you are right. I am making a guess that the spool valve on the steering shaft, that admits pressurized oil from the pump to the power cylinder is bypassing a little bit to the "right" side of the power cylinder all the time. I have a '98 3/4 ton truck chassis here in the yard, so I will rob the steering box out of it, and try swapping that in. Not a real hard job.

I have two sets of F-14 wings, two sets of horizontal stabilizers, one set of vertical tails, two sets of ventral strakes, two sets of missile pylons, and two sets of gear doors all painted. Need to repaint one set of vertical tails because of a paint issue.

Of course I still have to build two full F-14 cockpits, two sets of engine exhausts, glue two fuselages together, two sets of tires, detail all the landing gear, paint the missiles, and add about a million decals.

Posted by: Anna Puma at November 13, 2024 12:13 AM (CpRK

Pretty sure of that, Anna. The crucial thing is to have the steering box centered in its range of travel when the wheels are pointed straight ahead. Because a steering box normally has a "high spot" on the internal gears, right in the middle of travel, where the clearance between the gears is at a minimum. Should the steering box be installed such that straight ahead is off the high spot, a pull can result. When I do the steering box swap, I will be sure to make that right!

Been picking at it, I see. Try a diagonal measurement from left front to right rear on the frame & vice versa, ensure the variance is 1/8th or less. Then do a ride height check and look for variance of more than 1/4 inch--this is nit picking, but your thoroughness indicates the answer will be found inside a very small tolerance within this specific vehicle. All good thoughts. The alignment shop did a 4-wheel alignment, and the thrust angle, which is defined as the angle between the perpendicular of the rear axle and the center axis of the frame, is only 0.17 degree. That's probably not enough to account for the pull. And if it were the cause, I should be seeing torque steer, with the observed pull being sensitive to the throttle. Not so. I had the front brakes off it last month to change the ABS sensors, and noticed no issue with dragging. And rear brakes apart to change axle seals.

Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at November 13, 2024 12:42 AM (QELDt)

399 Well the steering on this one damned Suburban has been very reluctant to become fixed. On pavement or on gravel, the wheel, if I let go, drifts to the right, and the more it drifts, the faster it drifts. Seems independent of how the wheel alignment is set. It's not tires.

Several years ago there was a TV series about ordinary people would suddenly become superheroes. One of the characters was an impoverished single mother, and she needed to have a old junker of a car to show how poor she was.
Now, you can't risk offending potential car advertisers by showing one of their old models as a piece of crap. So they put her in a Gremlin.

In 2004 his unit was called to Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, where he served as an Infantry platoon leader with the Minnesota Army National Guard. His unit was under the operational control of the 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment 101st Airborne Division. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Shortly after returning from Cuba, Hegseth volunteered to serve in Baghdad and Samarra, where he held the position of infantry platoon leader and, later in Samarra, as Civil–Military Operations Officer. That Coroplast material typically used to make election signs is pretty pricey stuff these days. If I came across a large quantity of unused signs, I would snag them. Possible uses? Sheath the inside walls of a garden shed. Cut them into throw-away mixing boards for autobody filler. Use staples and hot glue to form them into bin boxes for small-parts storage (I have done this.).
