92 Hadrian , legislators even the good ones are endlessly cajoled, buttonholes, criticized, etc by the media, the executive branch, their voters, and their constituents. Then the demeaning calls to donors, endless in the House, and at least several years of a six year term. Then travel, having to maintain two households unless you live nearby, etc.

Over time a lot of people sour in the job. Cabinet secretaries don't actually run most departments but no quorum calls, no constituents other than the president, better travel opportunities, and when back in private land, a jump up a league in the k street lobbying firms.

Better life for most.

The creator upgraded his design and it's looks to be a killer update.

So far since getting the 3D printer, I've been blown away with what is possible and how inexpensive these things have become.

Now if only they could get the cost of plasma steel plate CNC rigs down to a reasonable price point, now you're talking.

Fashion: Melania IS the most fashionable first lady we've had since Jackie. She wears clothes, they don't wear her. Take that stunning floral Dolce & Gabbana coat she wore at the G7 summit. No other person wears that and doesn't have the coat overwhelm their presence. Looking forward to seeing her first lady fashion choices again.

https://tinyurl.com/yjfxpuj3

Movies: Saving Private Ryan and Inglorious Basterds both have amazing opening sequences. The scene with Kristolf Waltz hunting the Jewish kids...chilling. The rest doesn't measure up to the opening, especially since Tarantino doesn't know how to reign in his excesses.

"Can I still be anything I want when I grow up?" she asked cautiously.

"Of course you can honey, of course you can." I replied

"Even a Trump supporter?", she said quietly

Needless to say, the adoption goes through on Wednesday.

That's how it's done. You don't have to fire them, just let 'em know it's time to leave. Just like with immigration.

I read a pretty decent plan: If you're illegal and you leave by Jan. 20th, you can apply to come back at a later date all legal like but you don't get to jump to the front of the line. If we have to find and catch you, you're deported as persona non grata with no citizenship for you ever in the future.

Incentivized self-deportations would cut the cost of the new 'Operation Wetback'.

No, they want to keep that title in reserve, to get the idiot vote in 2028. "Vote for This Empty Pantsuit to be the First Woman President!"

They'll want another white woman, like Hillary, though. To save "First Black Woman President" or "First Latina President" for another election.

Like how Bill was the "first black president" because he was kind of cool and played the saxophone. Then Obama could be the "first black president" who was part black. They've still got the "first 100% black president" chip to play some year, too, after Obama is out of the picture.

Fifth element had an interesting take on basically 3D printing humans, and Westworld had one for 3D printing robots. The real stuff isn't quite there, but is quite impressive tech!

I may have bought the Sanderson RPG Crowdfunding thing as a combined bday/xmas gift for the hubby. Bought him a 3D printer last year so I didn't pay extra for the figures. Just bought the much cheaper add-on for the actual 3D files, and he can print them however he wants.

But Melania will never be on the cover of magazines as a glamorous First Lady. It's crazy. A real European fashion model not appearing on magazine covers as First Lady becuase of TDS only, not because she's fallen apart.

A story about Jackie rattles around in my brain. She gave a little 'hello' in perfect Spanish in some Spanish-speaking country on an offical visit. Jack took the stage and said something like 'I'm Mrs. Kennedy's husband' in English. Didn't even try.

Both fluent in languages. Both eloquent and elogent. Both have not bad mouthed their husbands. Both value/d privacy. America has done far worse than either of those two First Ladies.

That means vacancies for several months at a minimum, and the possibility of losing one or more of those seats in special elections.

I realize that Waltz and Stefanik both have seats that are generally considered safe R. As for Rubio, I wouldn't risk a special election in FL. It will be a referendum on Trump, obviously.

We're already headed for one of those in OH.

Honestly, I think they are both classy in their own right.

YMMV

Jackie O is the product of Media deception and a lack of televisions.
There's a vid available of her giving a tour of the White House, she's unwatchable and unlistenable. A, vapid, empty suit what went to the right schools and caught her a man but didn't know how to keep him satisfied. Twice.

Interesting story there. de Forest invented the triode vacuum tube, which he called the "audion", and proved that it could amplify signals. Thomas Edison had previously invented, and patented the diode vacuum tube, but considered it a curiosity, and never realized its potential usefulness. But when de Forest tried to patent the audion, Edison sued him for infringement, IIRC. Edison really didn't understand the physics of what he had invented. He was trying to find a means of preventing light bulbs from going black when metal sputtered of the filament condensed on the inside of the bulb. Adding a charge plate didn't help that.

I said it last week: Winning the popular vote cut out a lot of bullshit. It has been extraordinarily quiet since the election. The defeat is overwhelming. America voted against the woke left and its DEI candidate. 2016 they could bitch about winning the popular vote while the electoral college sucks. Not this time. A clean sweep of 7 swing states AND the popular vote. No wiggle room. The left got enstompenated.

No, they want to keep that title in reserve, to get the idiot vote in 2028. "Vote for This Empty Pantsuit to be the First Woman President!"

They'll want another white woman, like Hillary, though. To save "First Black Woman President" or "First Latina President" for another election.

If you can find an old, but SOLID, wooden surveyor's tripod that can attach and hold the 'scope's motorized "clock" base, BUY that tripod.

And then spend more than you've ever given yourself permission TO spend on a "gadget", and buy the best glass you can find.

A BRILLIANT 8" scope will beat all to hell, any lesser 10" scope, and etc.

Mine is not an astronomical scope, but my Vortex Razor 27x60x85 Angled Viewfinder scope, CLEARLY rendered Saturn and it's rings, and Jupiter with it's moons, during the "Convergence" event, four or five years back.

Buy Quality glass, realized Quality results.

Good luck, and have fun!

497 Hatari. That Nikon spotting scope is no joke.

Do not ever sell it. They didn't sell all that many of those, and they were OMG expensive for them to make.

Most folks don't know. But Nikon was one of the FEW Japanese lens makers that formulated and made their own glass. Olympus, another. The third? Fujinon. And all through the 80s/90s, Fuji TV lenses were the NFL standard on their broadcast cameras.

It would take a historical detective though, to undwind the DNA of the Japanese camera industry, post WWII.

That multi-thousand $ Contax has it's roots in the humble Yashica SLRs of the 70s. Contax's Made in Japan "Zeiss" lenses? Zeiss optical design, rendered in Japanese glass, in Japanese (former) Yashica factories.

Someone would have to enlighten me, as to any CURRENT U.S. maker of PREMIUM optical glass. For any application. Fair warning. The art and science of Optical Glass is one hell of a Deep Dive. Reader Beware.

I didn't look this up but I would be surprised if their RL mirrorless cameras body lenses, which replaced the EF "L" series, are not made in the same factory. I own at least two (this is exactly like being 29 years old) of the EF "L" lenses, prime and zoom. The EF 35 mm 1.4, 50 mm 1.2, 85 mm 1.2 are counted among the finest lenses ever made. I know Rubio is not on many issues. He was crap on the border a decade ago. But he has been a strong supporter of Trump recently, and he does articulate the issues as well. Of course, he hast to have some voice of his own, but in the end, his job is to help the president articulate his voice to the rest of the world. That’s just my view on it. I didn’t pick the guy supposedly Trump did.

528 Alteria.

Canon's upper end SLR and even upper end rangefinder lenses were always made of in house glass.

Into the 80s n 90s though, they had a lot of really cheap, 35mm consumer grade stuff. Some even had some polycarbonate elements in the focal groups.

THOSE were not made by the Utsunomiya plant. Malaysia, IIRC.

Canon T-70, (and your "kit" lenses), I'm lookin' at you, kid.

530 Traditionally Secretary of State is the number one cabinet position. There’s no question about that. But also traditionally it’s not about the border. It’s not about small government. It’s not about a bunch of the issues we chose Trump for. It is the top position for international relations. And presenting the United States to the rest of the world. I will say this anyone that Trump chooses needs to clearly state. His plan is to root out the anti-Americanism in the US state department.

532 What does the Secretary of State do?

Primarily the S of S is the main advisor to the President about foreign affairs and is the the pointy tip of that policy by overseeing its implementation. The S of S is also the Foreign Service big boss. HRC revolutionized the S of S position by welding its influence to the Clinton Foundation interests; hilarity and profits ensued.

535 525 Well, if it's Hillary...begin with the rogue email server, the "reset" button with Putin, pave the way for sales of uranium to him, leave an ambassador et al to be slaughtered in Bengazi, then turn around and pay bad actors to try to set Trump up, declare Putin to be the cause of ...

Nah, I'm too tired. There's plenty of b.s. that the Secretary of State gets mixed up in with the CIA. I don't think Rubio is savvy enough to not get tripped up by the deep state. They'll do everything possible to f*ck us over.

BUT I won't second-guess Trump. I have to believe he's better prepared this time and I have to trust his judgment.

536 Oooh, supposedly illegals in NYC are getting on buses and heading to Canada! For once I'm glad we didn't build a wall.

I read a statistic that 25+% of people in federal prison are illegals, and a good chunk of that are drug traffickers. Deport them. The more recent arrivals self deport to Canada or Mexico. By the time you get down to the illegals that have been here 10+ years and built a family and have anchor babies, the ones the left always screeches about, that's a small percentage to figure out compared to the rest.

See, dems, it's not hard! I might stock up on meat though, in case meat plants get raided.

539 I don't hate Rubio at State. I do think he loves America, and hates China. He is good on Israel, which is very important to me personally. I don't want our soldiers there, but I want them to be unburdened by what has been before while they annihilate ham-ass and decimate as many palis as it takes.

I want Zelensky to be told in no uncertain terms that the gravy train has ended, the Euroweenies to be told they need to start putting in more time at the range, and the communist faggot who is running the UK that he's skating on very thin ice, indeed. ( The PM, not King Charles)

I want the rest of world to be put on notice that Donnie Two Scoops is back, and he brought Hell with him.

540 536, the impact of the bum rush has been so quick and damaging, A lot of communities have barely reacted. What Biden did to this country will take some time and a lot of will to undue.

I could give 20 examples but I’ll give just one at least in this post lol. In my region, I have seen several Charitable organization shut down because the demand was so high. They had no chance of fulfilling it. It is the opposite of what you would think would happen you would think they would re-double their efforts, but they were overloaded so quickly they simply said we’re out of business. And these were the people that helped the poor and homeless in our area.

542 Eleven, I looked up SoS info and found this:

BUREAUS AND OFFICES REPORTING DIRECTLY TO THE SECRETARY
Bureau of Global Health Security and Diplomacy, Bureau of Intelligence and Research, Bureau of Legislative Affairs, Counselor of the Department, Executive Secretariat, Office of Civil Rights, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Office of Global Women’s Issues, Office of the AUKUS Senior Advisor, Office of the Chief of Protocol, Office of the Legal Adviser, Office of the Ombuds, Office of the Secretary’s Special Representative for Syria Engagement, Office of the Special Envoy for Critical and Emerging Technology, Office of the Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs, Office of the U.S. Special Coordinator for the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment, Office of the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, Policy Planning Staff, Special Envoy for Iran, Special Representative for Venezuela, United States Security Coordinator for Israel and the Palestinian Authority

Can Rubio go "afuera!" To a bunch of these offices, like DEI and climate? Does he have the guts to?

Yes. The kit lenses are a consequence of expanding the market for SLR/DSLRs. They are complete trash while being quite serviceable for entry grade gear. Canon at one time had entry level things masquerading as camera lenses, a mid-range series that lacked in build quality but performed remarkably well (the EF 50 mm 1.4 and the EF 28 mm-135mm IS 3.5-5.6 as two examples), and the "L" series.

Today, as a result of the transition to mirrorless optics, the mid-range lenses have disappeared. I recently took a hard look at the premium RF lens line up at it still has a number of holes in it that Canon is still working at filling. I wouldn't be surprised if Canon reintroduces the mid-range when they finally reach build out.

I am fussing around with of picking up a Sony a7CR which packs a 60 megapixel sensor into a body about the size of a rangefinder box. I may start with a couple Samyang or Viltrox lenses due to their compact size, excellent optics, and remarkably low cost.

This is not sitting well with the Marxist tech commentators whom I find tedious and amusing. Everything with them boils down to this, "Elon Musk is a fascist who belongs nowhere near any public office in the United States." When you are a Marxist you mortal enemy is Fascism. From that sense the nitwit that wrote this quote labeled Musk correctly from a Marxist perspective even though I doubt he or she has a clue about the what constitutes an actual Fascist. So far none of these commentators are talking about emigrating which I find disappointing, watching attempt to them inflict their petulance elsewhere would be most amusing.
