Showa American Story Video of the Day

Warning: This video depicts zombies - maybe people too, but definitely zombies - being killed in extremely gruesome ways.

It's basically a Chinese game developer's take on what America might have looked like if Japan had bought Texas at some time in the 1980s and then everyone got eaten by zombies.

While the recent title from American developer Bioware, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is basically a 50-hour DEI lecture from a blue-haired HR staffer with a sociology degree, this game is insane in a good way.

Disclaimer: Guys, you're getting out-competed for creativity by literal communists.

3 Evening and morning to all the early risers and late toilers across the AoSHQ Empire!

Willowed: I'm going to vote this morning. Polls open at 0600. I'll probably walk up there early and stand in line. 0515 or so. Could use the walk. Got Bible Study tonight, so will be a nice distraction to the madness of today. I'll glance here, from time to time, otherwise, I'll just ignore the newz. Most of it will be wrong and manipulative. Between all the DOOM and Hopium posts, I get burned out on both. Vote and pray, that's all one can do now. . . .

5 Is Don't Create the Torment Nexus a real novel, then? Because that is a *great* title. Seems like whenever you have a full sentence as a title, you get something memorable. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Wait Until Dark, All Heads Turn When the Hunt Goes By. (Maybe not so much that last one. I read it but remember little about it. But that title --!)

24 Spent yesterday working on the Volvo wagon.

258,000 miles and gas mileage and power are both not as good as when new. (Duh!)

Leak down test shows no appreciable increase from when new, so it can contain combustion gasses as well as ever.

Back pressure check shows that the exhaust system and catalytic converter are flowing exhaust gasses as well as ever.

Waste gate adjustment are where they should be, but I am using oil at about 1 qt per thousand miles with no visible leaks except around the turbo, and oil inside the charge pipe going into the intercooler.

Verdict seems to be that I need a new turbocharger. With the rest of the engine going strong, even though it's about $1,200 for the OEM turbo replacement kit, I think it's a good investment. So now we set aside some moneys till we can order it.

And......

Don't forget to vote.

32 Heard an interesting caller on Baltimore talk radio the other day talking about black men voting.

As a self identified black man, he explained that black men will vote in the way that black women tell them to. And it has been this way since government gave all the power to black women, and black women will vote for the Democrat every time in order to keep the power flowing to them.

Sounds like black men might be a better target audience for the 'Only you know who you vote for' argument, and educate them to vote in their own best interest.

Nope, standard liquid dinosaurs at 91 octane.

2.5 liter inline 5 cylinder with ported fuel injection and a low pressure turbo.

Waste gate for the turbo should begin to open at around 1.8 PSI input into the waste gate actuator from the turbo control valve, but if the adjustment is off, it will prevent even that small amount of boost from spooling up.

37 @29/Colin: It's a fake-out. The courts are extremely reluctant to overturn the results of a vote. They might throw one or two people here and there in prison if it can be proven that they personally voted more than once, but that's about all you can expect.

Stopping systemic cheating? The courts expect the legislators to do their actual job and legislate the changes everyone wants but never seems to get.

I remember the term "waste gate" popping up in discussions of Mercedes turbodiesels when i was into vintage MB cars. Volvo imported some diesels into America once upon a time, didn't they?

I test drove a diesel E-Class MB, a 2009 I think, some years ago. It was a wonderful car, except for the suspension which was a little too stiff to be comfortable on these cart tracks around here. I wouldn't mind a BMW diesel wagon if it rode well.

I believe that at some point they did offer a small number of US models with diesel.

Never a huge holder of the US market to begin with, Volvo never really sold a large number of them.

But for Volvo lovers, those cars simply refuse to die.

They are the Toyota Hilux of passenger cars.

Run For Your Life
was a kind of no-crime Fugitive -- the hero, Gazzara's character, had a fatal disease, and so he took off from his lucrative law practice to live fully what time he had left. All I recall about it: Kim Darby, pre-True Grit, was in one episode, and a two- or three-parter was based on the John D. MacDonald standalone novel Cry Hard, Cry Fast, focusing on a multi-car accident on a state highway, and the lives of those who died in, and survived, it.

Not as the original company, but yes. HollyFrontier acquired Sinclair in Aug 2021, and then they formed a new company in 2022 called the "HF Sinclair Corporation" and they've kept the Sinclair logo for operating fuel stations. The Dino logo has just too much brand recognition to let go or rebrand. (Smart of them to realize that...)

Of course, given that the Swiss are involved, it does sound plausible. As some of you may recall, the only compliment Deutschland can pay to the Swiss is that at least they are not Austrians. Austrians are soul-less creatures with an intelligence above that of an animal but less than that of a human. So, telling someone that they are at least not an Austrian is not unlike telling the Dutch to rejoice that they are not Belgians. It is...sad, ja?

About twenty years ago, Dollar Tree sold pint bottles of Phillips 66 oil, the real up-to-date stuff. For $2 you could get a quart of fine oil. My car at the time took 5 quarts, so for $10 and the cost of a filter, about $8, I could change my own oil and know it was good stuff.

Now my car takes 6 quarts, $5 or so each at Walmart, so a change costs ca. $38 in materials. And I give my mechanic $20 to do the change. It lasts for six months -- so $120 a year is not bad, I guess.

Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice

Nein. You are close, but sometimes it takes a foreigner like Werner to see. They are not siblings. They are the same person.

Think about it - have you seen them all together at the same time? The "death" of Matthew Perry was designed to make the deception easier, and to bring NBC/MSNBC budget constraints under tighter control. A similar thing has been going on with Aubrey Plaza and Dakota Johnson for quite some time, and there is, in truth, only one Baldwin Brother. Christopher Hemsworth is two dwarfs in a trench coat. Hollywood is a treacherous, deceitful place, not unlike a Rachel Ray fan convention.

173 Morning, Horde...How goes it?

My plan for today is pretty simple. Go to work and do my job. Then go to a men's group meeting at my church, which is actually going to be at a polling place next door to the church due to some recent flooding. We will naturally be praying for our country.

Then tomorrow, regardless of the result, I'm going to get up, go to work, teach my students, and otherwise get on with my life, continuing to pray for each of you and for our country as a whole.

As a filmmaker and documentarian, Werner cannot not watch them. Each time I tell myself, ja, they are idiots, but maybe this time they will break away from the format they developed around 2008 or so - constant repetitions of the same lines, broken up and cut in such a frenzied fashion that they could trigger an epileptic seizure.

But they do not - Mila Kunis, let us say, begins with two words "Please, America" then her image is rapidly replaced by Danny Devito saying "Please" before yielding to Demi Moore saying "America, we must," then there is Dee Snyder from Twisted Sister intoning "Please, America, we must act." At one point there is Benedict Cumberbatch saying "Wait, why the Hell am I in this?" Lather, rinse, and repeat, and by the end of the commercial there has been a total of five lines. Poor Benedict never receives any answer to his legitimate query. Ach.
