I just got back from voting (red-flags going up) and unfortunately, they moved the election place from my old location which was a retirement home served up cookies for each voter, to a new location which also is a retirement home but they didn't have any cookies.
Probably a good thing since today is also Dracula Day for me. I have to go in to have some blood drawn in a couple of hours for my annual checkup, so no need for prayers for me unless you wish to help the new location think about serving cookies for the voters in 2026, in which case if you do offer up prayers, I and the rest of the voters in precinct 18 will appreciate the thoughtfulness greatly!

She came home with us and in spite of a fierce airplane and cedar induced cold, took a couple of hours to completely re-vamp her Dad's 1890 Census spread sheet.
This allows him to automatically link names to info sources that prove county citizenship for the census, however obscure. And, she saved it to her own computer, always a good idea when dealing with older parents and technology.

I was #68 voting today, fifteen minutes after the polls opened. The line was open when I walked in, with nearly all (10) voting cubes occupied.
After voting, there were twelve in line.
Twenty percent of my precinct voted early.

Probably a bit of both. But I firmly believe they don't let you in to the club unless they think they can control you. And a lot of that is done with compromising material.

The elementary school had a pretty full parking lot. Didn't see a line. I also drove by a second voting location, a small church. A good number of cars, but not exactly full.
We're pretty rural in a state that has embraced early voting for many cycles. No idea what to make of any of this!
Also, Dolley's been on the verge of panic attacks related to the election for a few days, including just being generally mad at me because we disagree about politics.
I don't think her bubble is setting her up for success.

I actually had a very similar and scary experience. I was at the polling place and a pregnant woman next to me said to her husband "if you and my boyfriend don't both for Kamala, I will have to keep this baby and you two will be forced to raise it." and her husband, with tears in his eyes, let out a soft sigh, whispered "MAGA" and said "this is my role as a cuck. I must vote for Kamala."
It was terrible to see.

Fairfax does vote about 2/3rd early now...although low turnout means they won't make up for the 77K missing EV voters...
PS - Fairfax has 20-40% Rs...you REALLY want Arlington (90%D) and Richmond (about the same) to stay home on election day b/c Richmond especially is way behind its EV...

I pretty much get together with large groups of people twice a year. TxMoMe and LibertyCon. It’m happy with that. Technically the North Texas RPG Con has lots of people too, but they’re divided up into small groups. One of the things I like about it. All gaming, no filler.

I did find a $100 bill on the sidewalk in about 2010, outside the medical school. May have fallen from some surgeon's wallet. I saw it, scooped it up and thrust it into a pants pocket, and didn't even look at it until I was safely ensconced in a bathroom stall.
It was real; at least CVS took it later that week in payment for an Rx, and gave me change.

Yeah, I know. And I feel like all dead horses have been beaten on this subject. But he's essentially weighing polls based on sorcery to try to smooth out the data, then running simulations on these blended averages of polls to get to his predictions.
Which is .. I mean, what does the margin of error go to when you average 10 polls together?
I just don't see how (mathematically), you can hope to get to any kind of accurate number there. And that's if all of the polls being inputted are high quality. Which we know they are not.

You can blame Ed Rollins for a long running consent decree during the Reagan years in NJ that finally ended right before the 2020 election. He was bragging about paying black ministers to have the flocks stay out of voting using cash pmts. That’s part of it, but I read it mostly as an exhortation against greed. People who have been blessed with wealth will be judged on how they use that wealth. Do they hoard it and think only of themselves, or do they care for their fellow man? Do they tend to the poor and pay fair wages?
Put another away: with great wealth comes great responsibility, and the rich will be judged accordingly. It’s much harder for someone who is poor to be miserly than someone who is rich, so that sin is one that wealthy people must contend with. Same as there are some people who struggle with lust or wrath more than is typical.
The “camel through the eye of a needle” scene illustrates something similar. The rich man is very devout, willing to do almost anything to serve the Lord. He believes in Jesus, but when Christ commands him to give away his wealth that is too much. His attachment to wealth is a stumbling block to salvation, just as we all have our own stumbling blocks.

Margin of error only applies to variance generated from random sampling of a representative population. That variance will follow a normal distribution.
It can't account for error from sampling a non-representative population. Figuring out how to get a representative sample is the hard part.

Nope. The data are gathered using different techniques, and they are processed using different assumptions. Averaging that makes a big mess, but it doesn't make it more precise.
But the whole idea of averaging polls is dumb anyway. Most of them are inaccurate. Why include them?

They cannot get a good sample, so their entire mode of operation is suspect from the start. So, they model, which they probably hang under the idea of "normalization", but that's not normalization.

Sampling errors follow a normal distribution.
Say you wanted to test a single die, so you roll it 10 times, in a certain number of sets. (1 set =10 rolls, 5=50, 10=100 and so on).
By adding more sets together you'll get closer to the "true" average the die rolls.
The representativeness issue is that testing die A doesn't necessarily tell you how a different die B will perform.

Walked over to vote, a nice mile stroll.
Very quiet, maybe 5 people voting. The other party self identified by the wearing of WhuFLu masks.
Once again, the Erie County GOPe beclowns themselves: no signage for any Republican candidate.
They also supported every candidate for higher Court Offices that the Dems did. There were no Republicans running for the three Family Court offices ... but at least they didn't run the Dems on the Rep line.
I was surprised that there wasn't one Trump sign. Last campaign, his placards were everywhere leading up to the polling place.
Also of note was the fact that signage was noticeably lower for all parties ... election fatigue?

Ideally aggregating them is what should be done. A crude average doesn't weight them properly by sample size. Running a Monte Carlo is a slightly imprecise method of combining probability distributions, which unfortunately like much of statistics seems to hold a magical status for a lot of people using them.

If the die being rolled is weighted to come up snake eyes is doesn't matter how many times you roll it - the bias is still there. Only if errors are indeed random does increasing the sample size work to reduce them. There is no reason to believe that polling errors are random. In fact there are many reasons to believe they are not.
