  • Microsoft will be offering a one year $30 support plan for users who are reluctant to move from Windows 10. (PC World)

Microsoft has its own page on this, but it is almost entirely trying desperately to persuade users to just switch to Windows 11; it's hard to even spot the support plan.

And unlike the business version of extended support, this will last for a single year, after which you will be cut off and left to install Linux.

    On the upside:
Microsoft will also continue to provide Security Intelligence Updates for Microsoft Defender Antivirus through at least October 2028.
Which is really all I want. Just leave me alone, stop screwing things up, and keep blocking viruses.

7 This Windows Recall thing has the potential to get Microsoft in a lot of hot water. Their legal teams should be sounding the alarm at a volume level of 11. Microsoft is still proceeding with their plan.

I'm starting to wonder if those in control at Microsoft have reached the "Caligula makes his favourite horse a Roman consul" stage of insanity.

10 Evening and morning on this dawn of sanity after a night of unchecked power among the demonic forces! Or do they continue to romp around until the sun literally comes up? That's not for three hours or more here. Better watch out!

It's raining, hot, and sticky here, so I'm taking off from working out today. On the other hand: It's Friday, the consummation devoutly to be wished!

11 @9/Mister Ghost:

"Oh freddled gruntbuggly,
Thy micturitions are to me,
As plurdled gabbleblotchits,
On a lurgid bee,
That mordiously hath blurted out,
Its earted jurtles,
Into a rancid festering confectious organ squealer.

Now the jurpling slayjid agrocrustles,
Are slurping hagrilly up the axlegrurts,
And living glupules frart and slipulate,
Like jowling meated liverslime,

Groop, I implore thee, my foonting turling dromes,
And hooptiously drangle me,
With crinkly bindlewurdles,

Or else I shall rend thee in the gobberwarts with my blurglecruncheon,
See if I don't."

Posted by: Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz at November 01, 2024 04:21 AM (O7YUW)

12 And it's gonna stay warm, highs in the 80s, until maybe next Friday. Maybe. This weather is like the creepy old uncle whom nobody invites to the party, but he comes over anyway, keeps telling you the same old stories about some place called Veet Nam, and won't take even broad hints to leave.

Kinda like having Joe Biden in your family.

“Karsten Borner was planted on the halfdeck of his sailboat in the slanting rain. A grizzled mariner who had survived many storms, he was anchored in the same cove as Mr. Lynch’s yacht, at the same time, as the squall blew in during the early hours …”

Karsten is super salty. My one question about him being- how does one convert a late 1950’s tugboat into a sailboat? It simply doesn’t compute. Seems more like a littoral tramp coaster with a mast than sailboat.

I don't believe so.

That is a UV type light used to cure the filling and composite material.

This works in some mysterious manner with a all that is applied just before the exposure to light begins.

A four minute treatment. But the healing process seems to be accelerated by about 50%

71 I am good with spending $30.00 for another year of full support and security updates through October 2028 for Windows 10. By then my current PC will be 11 years old, and will have served me well. For me, what this does, is allow me to time exactly when I want to replace it.

While I can partially see my way to understanding why people are annoyed that Microsoft ended updates to their PCs at the same time I don't get it at all. Countless products reach manufacturer's end of life all the time without biblical amounts of bitching an moaning; I don't see how this is any different than that.
