CNN: We Support Mehdi Hassan Calling Every Right-Leaning Person a "Nazi" but When a Guest Responds In Kind By Saying "I Hope Your Beeper Doesn't Go Off," That's Worth a Lifetime Ban

He also does the crybully thing of claiming that Ryan Girdusky said that he should die.

He didn't.

He said "I hope your beeper doesn't go off."

It's a well-taken, well-sourced joke about Mehdi Hassan being a straight-up terrorist propagandist.

You can say that all Republicans are Nazis, but when you call an actual agent of foreign terror-supporting regimes a terror-supporter, well, CNN can't allow that.

Max Abrahms
@MaxAbrahms

It is fine to call anyone on the political right a Nazi.

It is not okay to call an antisemitic Qatar agent who runs PR for terrorists a terrorist.

Even this liberalish libertarian gets it:

Robby Soave
@robbysoave

Last time I was on TV with Ryan Girdusky, he said I don't care about victims of migrant crime and I told him to go fuck himself. It was spicy!

That said, I have a hard time understanding why Mehdi Hasan--a bad faith debater if ever there was one--gets to insinuate that everyone he disagrees with is a Nazi, but a (tasteless, to be clear) joke about him supporting terrorism is beyond the pale.

He's not a liberal, I should say. But I think he's definitely liberalish. He tends to worry about the checklist of Luxury Worries of liberals, even though he chides them for being silly.

Noah Pollak
@NoahPollak

Mehdi Hassan is probably not an actual terrorist in the sense of having participated in a terrorist attack. But he is funded by a terrorist regime and he has devoted his entire career to promoting terrorism and hatred and the fact that CNN has him on the air is the real scandal.

CNN is now defaming Girdusky as a "bigot" and "racist," while pleading with the terrorist-supporting, terror-regime-funded Mehdi Hassan to please come back to their network to propagandize for Hamas some more.

bigotrycnn.jpg

And of course: Please come on CNN to defame anyone who disagrees with you, the guy who wants to murder all Jews in Israel and drive them into the sea, a "Nazi."

145 Flux: CNN's Ryan Girdusky fiasco is part of a much bigger problem in mainstream media. By obsessively trying to have ‘balanced’ discussions, mainstream television news keeps platforming extremists.

Before I started Flux, I was a writer and producer for The Hill...we were constantly trying to have balanced panel discussions. But we always had a problem: It was very difficult to find Republicans who weren’t crazy.

Gidursky, a known racist who previously wrote articles for the white nationalist activist Richard Spencer and gave friendly interviews with the Proud Boys hate group, has been actively working to ban Black and LGBT authors from school curricula. He should’ve never been on CNN.

The media's normalizing of fascist/racist behavior & offensive language. Their sane washing of the Con is part of what enabled the fascist right's rise.

Ryan looked stunned when the rest of the panel took him to the woodshed! The US is in desperate need of mass deprogramming from this hate cult.

I stopped watching CNN since they have deplorable and bat-shit-crazy panelists like Ryan Girdusky, Scott "head up his ass" Jennings, and David "penis head" Urban.

I can't know that. But one thing Mensa tests test is analysis and problem solving.

And you think if she had that kind of talent, she could thin her way through an interview going badly.

Who knows though, maybe she has allowed herself to become so managed that she has hobbled that ability, and allows handlers to take her out of interviews, like the fight they stopped with Baier.

Having an innate sense of analysis is no key to confidence and expression.

But, I'm still rather skeptical.

Unconstitutional on its face. Caselaw in GA and the US in general indicate that in public, you have no expectation of privacy on a street and that includes people like the police trying to stop people taking pix or video of them.

Anyone charged under that judge's ruling is likely to own the friggin county and be granted individual damages from any knuckleheads stupid enough to try to enforce it.

That is what happened in multiple cases where higher courts ruled that it is a settled issue, qualified immunity does not count, and anyone trying to enforce the unconstitutional law is at risk personally for liability.

Never discard knowledge in the social sciences. Unlike the natural sciences, social science concepts are always harder to measure but IQ is actually pretty well grounded with over a century worth of refinement and demonstrations of a genetic trait via twin studies.

There is also a nurture component and socialization that can determine how a particular individual's iq score might play out but it is in essence no different than people thinking taller people (within a limit) are more attractive, beauty via symmetry which can also be genetic, and so on.

Ask any experienced(non indoctrinated) teacher about intelligence as how it plays out in school. They deal with realities of some that cannot learn, others that can with effort, and some where it comes naturally and easily.

324 IQ is bogus anyway.

The numerical scenario behind it is that a

20 year-old with a 200 IQ ~=~ a 40 year-old with a 100 IQ.

However, 20 yos with a 200 IQ can gather a lot more knowledge than an average 40 yo with a standard IQ.

And besides natural depletion plays a role that cannot be captured. If a 200 IQ gent gets to be 50 years old, what is the capability of an average 100-year old?

As a quotient, it sucks. So, now we've only got a number that gives some sort of relative measure of what knowledge you have picked up so far in your life and makes a guess at how competent you will be in the future.

It's only partially useful and only as a relative measure.

325 IQ is overrated….. although his books are overrated I think Malcolm Gladwell got it about right in his book Outliers…. I’ve very little doubt Obama possesses the minimum threshold IQ… he’s no genius but not a retard either. No sense underestimating opponents

326 IQ measures potential for analytical and rational thought. Not actually having knowledge, experience, or wisdom. It is more the capacity to exercise those.

Which traditionally was the difference between the ACT and SAT before lines became blurred via achievement tests, etc.

H. Beam Piper's Little Fuzzy sf story has an interesting discussion about just what sapience is and how is it to be measured. IQ arguments are sort of like that.
Posted by: whig at October 29, 2024 03:57 PM (ctrM5)

Well I guess I'd counter that by definition nothing can measure potential. If I sit at the test and grok everything about it perfectly, even to what the test maker had for dinner, but put nothing on the paper, I certainly won't get a good score.

Little Fuzzy's world at least is looking for the definition of sapience as opposed to animal mentation in order to avoid persecution of discovered aliens. And in the end the Fuzzies were able to talk and build a fire if you had the right equipment

327 At age seven, almost eight, I had to go down to the School Board office and take some tests to see if I belonged in third grade. I guess I passed; they didn't hold me back.

That's a bit young, as young children develop at considerably different rates. I believe they usually shoot for 12-year olds, because their cognitive development starts to level off at that age.

Which, of course, is why IQ was originally defined as apparent cognitive age/actual chronological age.

The ideologues that dreamed it up actually believe it there could be a quotient. Which is why the name comes from Intelligence Quotient.

Bar exam is all prep. So either she didn't prep because she's lazy AF or she's so stupid she didn't know to prep or she tried to prep but was too dumb. The point of IQ testing is to identify people (kids, in particular) who may fly under the radar in school but who have potential. Again, consider the NFL Combine. If someone crushes the 40 yard dash, can long jump into next week, can high jump over buildings, etc. he might look like a fat slob, but he has athletic potential nonetheless.

Nothing to do with outcomes whatsoever.

=====
Part of that argument stemmed on the lack of language because the Fuzzies communicated at higher frequency range beyond human ability to hear. It is more about whether language or pure mentation could determine sapience.

Mental boiling point was a good analogy. I was using the sapience argument not in regards to iq as much as another difficult to measure concept. In our context, it would pertain to whether or not a person was a genius or a moron (old psych defn)

That being said, any experienced teacher that is not an ideologue can notice even from small assignments writing assignments to be able to rank most students as far as ability even starting grade school

Posted by: whig at October 29, 2024 04:33 PM (ctrM5)

355 There is also a nurture component and socialization that can determine how a particular individual's iq score might play out but it is in essence no different than people thinking taller people (within a limit) are more attractive, beauty via symmetry which can also be genetic, and so on.

Ask any experienced(non indoctrinated) teacher about intelligence as how it plays out in school. They deal with realities of some that cannot learn, others that can with effort, and some where it comes naturally and easily.
Posted by: whig at October 29, 2024 04:06 PM (ctrM5)

Taller people are considered more attractive because they can beat the hell out of smaller people in the tribe, and have had enough food in their life to be healthy. Good bet for a woman. Similar for symmetry for the woman, its a signal of good health, better babies.

But there are so many contradictions of what IQ is even on this thread - it measures a hard and fast intelligence, or potential, or it has social aspects and changes with age....I am not confident that there is a real there there.

There have been experiments where they told teachers that person X was brilliant or person X was a troublemaker and their results were very widely different.

But I have never said that there aren't differences in ability, just that there are many abilities. Doing well on a standardized test is an ability. The ability to read fast and accurately gives you more time to think, for one.

357 Exceptional outcomes are the result of multiple factors: a threshold level of intelligence (not an IQ in the stratosphere), opportunity/circumstances (right place, right time) and good old fashioned effort and hard work

IQ is not a linear system which is where Gladwell gets it wrong.

Simply put, there is a quantitative difference between a 'genius' and the relatively linear progression of iq from about 90-130. Those that are geniuses and those that are below normal demonstrate very different thinking patterns and behaviors as a result of that.
Simply put, it is a myth that all people are created equal in all attributes, some are taller, some are shorter, smarter, less smart, etc. etc.

It is more that all people are worthy of being respected as a person and be treated equally by a democratic government unless their actions or reasons exist via due process of law to treat them differently.

The many different iq model has been disproven by actual research pretty thoroughly now. Due to my profession, I tended to track such things as it affected my ability to teach plus I read a lot of empirical research of all types in order for me to teach senior research projects in a seminar. Research papers are almost a pure test of a student's ability to reason analytically and produce results. I also used plagiarism detectors, made them produce written work by hand throughout the semester, etc.

More a factor of socialization. Regarding the Dr. Fox effect, it does exist for some but generally that fades with teaching experience. I learned pretty quickly what happens when I pushed analytic concepts like rational choice theory to a class that simply does not have the mental horsepower to handle it.

That requires teaching more like jazz than pouring out knowledge as the sage on the stage for students to lap up.
