I just saw a thing somewhere on Moses by Michelangelo. The writer was pointing out a small detail. I'll try to find it, but he was pointing to a small muscle that Michelangelo had carved and how it was flexed and could only be flexed when you were extending your pinky finger. He pointed it out as an example of Michelangelo's mastery of anatomy.

In a right-to-left reading language like Hebrew, the designations are reversed.

144 These are wonderful natural studies of the human form. He captures an essence of the feminine and masculine without idealizing or exaggerating any features. I think Kris is correct in that these were studies in posing and light. Pierre Paul Prud'hon certainly used enough nudes in his finished work. His finished painted portraits are very realistic and natural so he probably spent a lot of effort to get the anatomy right.

CBD, thanks for using this artist. I wasn't aware of his work but it is worth studying.
