Seems Pillet died in the year after pointing this. Maybe he knew he was on the way out, so he was using up all his old paint, which explains the riot of color.

Is that wide-open swath covered in snow the field for the livestock, or the frozen-over stream that eruns alongside the road? How often do rivers freeze over, anyway? You'd think the fast-moving water would prevent it. Of course the Thames froze at least once in, what, the 1600s?

162 It’s unlikely the country as a whole has swung to Trump while swing states have swung away from him relative to the country. Which means he’s winning PA and MI by more.
Posted by: Settled Science

I think Trump gets a lot of voters that don't vote in midterms...they just turn out to vote for him in the Presidential elections. That screws up the "likely voter" screening, and the upper midwest "Blue Wall" is especially full of these kinds of voters.

Assuming they turn out in even remotely similar numbers to 2016 and 2020, they should help Trump win those states handily.

184 Some sober, objective, grounded political analysis-

The Daily Beast: Donald Trump’s Racist NYC Rally Was Vile. It Was Also Political Suicide. The Madison Square Garden rally, operatic in its repulsive bigotry, will almost certainly alienate more voters who might have voted for Trump.

Trump engineered what will be seen by political analysts and later by historians as the coup de grâce that killed forever his prospects of being president and may well have set him on a post-election course on which he finally may be held accountable for his actions.

the entire event, despite its marathon length and hodgepodge of z-list speakers, delivered over and over again a very focused message. The Trump campaign is about retribution and revenge. It is about the white supremacist desire to purge America of all their neighbors of different colors and beliefs. It is about Trump’s desire to seek out his enemies and punish them. And over the course of its Wagnerian length (and resonances) it singled out group after group that would be deported or punished.

Trump may be thinking the rally will help him mobilize thugs to violence when he contests his loss and we should be wary of that...

By its sound, French seems to be the perfect language to express contempt, no matter what you are saying. "Je t'aime" can so easily be pronounced in a sneer as if you were saying "Get away from me, pig dog." "Yo te amo" doesn't lend itself to contempt in the same way.

216 Americans should prepare for “unrest’ if former President Donald Trump completes the greatest political comeback in modern American politics, Democrats told the Wall Street Journal on Monday.

The potential for Democrats to perpetrate political violence undermines their narrative that Republicans, and especially the America First movement, are a threat to democracy.

“I think there’ll be some violence. I think there’ll be workplace fights. There’ll be fights at kids’ birthday parties. I think they’ll be protests and will turn violent,” Mark Halperin recurrently told Tucker Carlson.

The margins in the restaurant business are razor thin, and as the inflation monster grows and wrecks havoc, it has wrecked havoc on the restaurant industry particularly.

There's only so much you can charge for restaurant food before the patrons react to the sticker shock by not going out to eat as frequently as they did before.

The IHOPs took over the former Denny's locations here. But IHOP went nuts on pricing years ago. On New Year's Day '06, I think it was, Miss Linda and I went out for breakfast there. $30 for two people, and that was from their *specials* menu.

Later that year I was there and asked for some salsa to put on my eggs. No problem. Some months after that I came back and asked for the same thing, and found a charge for it on my bill. I complained -- "What, are you going to charge for salt and pepper next?" -- and got it removed. I ain't been back.

For those who wonder why those darn joos won't vote for Trump:

Grand Rabbi Aharon Teitelbaum's Satmar hasidic sect in New York has announced that it will officially support former US President Donald Trump's candidacy for US president.

The decision follows a set of discussions by the Satmar leadership, due to concerns that US Vice President Kamala Harris may pose a threat to the "Jewish people" if she is elected president.

The support means tens of thousands of additional votes for Trump, in a neck-to-neck race.

The second sect of Satmar hasidim who follow Grand Rabbi Zalman Leib Teitelbaum, has not yet issued an official announcement, but it is expected that they, too, will support Trump.

The navy had an carrier mail plane that came in a stretch version and a short version. On the stretch you exited aft of the props and turned tailward on exit while the short version you exited fore of the props and exited towards the nose. These mail runs are fast and sometimes sailors get things backwards. When this happens the con is painted red.

It's hard to appreciate just how drenched in death the 1800s were, with the big, congested, filthy cities of industrialization growing, right before sanitation, public health and safety, and germ theory finally took hold. We are so sanitized from it now. Tuberculosis, cholera, typhoid, flu... death was always a traveler in their lives.

I'd be interested in the story behind a painting about a gently sleeping, dead infant, why it was painted. There were so few ways to have mementos of your loved ones back then; a painting of a child could be a solace. Memento mori is fascinating.

359 Pointillism is based on a false assumption, which is why it didn't last long as an approach to painting. At viewing distance, a human eye can't differentiate the complementary effect of the differently colored dots, giving most pointillistic pieces a dulled, washed-out effect, which is the exact opposite of the desired result. Only Georges Seurat and a handful of others could make it work and that only because they worked at such large scale with huge canvases that the human eye actually could make that differentiation.

Now a well-done portrait of one of my cats, taken from an in-life photo, sure. Big Chekov D. Siberian, with his white-and-black coat, would be fun for someone to paint.

399 Not only have New Yorkers tolerated a Nazi building for 85 years, but they built a new building and named it after they moved from the old Nazi building.

401 >>> 272 Some sober, objective, grounded political analysis-The Daily Beast: Donald Trump’s Racist NYC Rally Was Vile....

I like these opening paragraphs from it:

"To all those Republicans who shed crocodile tears because their feelings were so hurt that people were calling Donald Trump a fascist: Stop.

To all the MAGA defenders who said it was over-the-top to compare Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally to that held by the German-American Bund in an earlier incarnation of Madison Square Garden: Shush.

To all those who were falling once again for the bought-and-paid-for narrative that Trump somehow had the momentum going into the final week of campaign 2024: Nope."

Ooooh, bold sick burn Cotton! Let's see if that pays off for him. (I will say, the clickbait of it is pretty good, I did click on the link.)

416 Time to reevaluate the nuanced distinction between 'projection' and 'transference'?
Posted by: Itinerant Alley Butcher at October 28, 2024 10:34 AM (/lPRQ)

Or this line from that Daily Beast article:

"On Sunday at MSG, Donald Trump engineered what will be seen by political analysts and later by historians as the coup de grâce that killed forever his prospects of being president and may well have set him on a post-election course on which he finally may be held accountable for his actions."

Translation: if Kamala wins, there will be four years of making ALL the people who voted Trump pay for their actions. Trump will no longer be in the way.

Also all the celebs and moguls fearing Trump retribution after the election: we can see exactly what they know will happen to us if Trump loses. And the projections are pretty scary, honestly.
