  • Nature abhors a vacuum, and OpenAI's Whisper abhors a momentary silence. (The Verge)

If it encounters such a thing, it will happily fill the void with something it just made up, often creating strange or offensive sentences out of nothing at all.

Which wouldn't be a huge problem since we've come to expect that of chatbots.

Except that Whisper is used for medical transcriptions.

Lawyers everywhere are salivating like dogs hearing the dinner bell.

Yes, it's Monday. But remember: Compared to being on the wrong side of the ground, even a bad Monday is pretty small kumquats, nicht wahr?

16 I hear Kamala say she is the 'law and order' candidate as a former prosecutor. What I have never heard from is anyone who saw her actually prosecute anyone in court. I'd like to hear from an opposing counsel, a defendant, a juror or two, or just someone sitting in the courtroom.

19 KH is the law-and-order candidate, all right. If "law and order" means bringing charges against *parents* for their children's absence from school, she's law and order. If encouraging riots in 2020 is law and order, she's there. If prosecuting people for smoking small amounts of pot while toking up herself is law and order, she's the one. Uh-huh.

Kamala Harris’ middle name is Devi ("goddess"). There’s a constellation with two stars named Alamak and Sirrah (Kamala and Harris backwards) in the Andromeda galaxy, where in Greek mythology means sacrificed to the beast.

Spelling things backwards is a known practiced Satanic ritual.

30 'Tis 70 F. outside now. I don't care to look up the humidity or the heat index (though it is probably 70 also). Dreary -- and here we are almost to November.

Okay. Only five days to slog through until the weekend. Can you tell I dislike my job? It's not hard, in fact it's rather dull. But I hate the commute and hate seeing the same blocks and buildings over and over again. There are only a couple of ways to get to my work that don't involve driving over rough streets, so I can't vary the route too much.

Maybe this weekend I'll drive up to Jackson to visit that tobacconist. It's three hours each way, but, you know, road trip. I haven't done anything like that in over two years, since I drove four hours each way to adopt the little black kitten who grew into big Stirling, the Duke of Vicksburg.

31 So, I've got my new Android 13 based smartphone set up (Thank you Horde for all the suggestions a few days ago - very helpful.)

The last couple of days I went on a neutering rampage of any applications I didn't need or want, disabling them, and then doing a force-stop, clearing their cache & storage, and taking away any permissions I didn't want them to have. This seems to have been successful. Everything (so far) works without issue.

I've also deleted my Advertising ID under Settings > Privacy > Ads to avoid targeted ads and to whiz in the cornflakes of the tracking companies and advertisers.

I kept complete notes on everything I changed in a file on my desktop, because someday I'm going to have to factory reset this thing and I'm not going to remember all I did.

The UI on this thing still makes me crazy, but youngest-daughter showed me how to enable the three-button control interface at the bottom instead of gestures and that's better. *mutters at phone* I've got a few gestures for you...

I've got it set up to provide me a wireless hotspot if/when needed, too.

I think I'm set.

Exactly. The libs who call Trump by that term would blink this evidence away. Which is why I can't talk to them. When they discard an actual fact in favor of a belief -- in something this important, anyway -- makes me realize they are not reachable. The Bernie-Bro member of my former writing group kept insisting that DJT never graduated from college, though I steered him twice to the Wiki page that clearly states he, Trump, got his degree at the U of Penn. Once I could understand, maybe the Bernie-Bro didn't know, but a second time?

68 Harmeet Dillon was only able to find ten cases, out of hundreds claimed, that Harris was on in ten years in two counties. None with her as lead as the idea of her speaking before a courtroom is hilarious. But then her boss from San Francisco said she only worked a single case in the nearly two years she worked under him. Bringing the grand total to nine. Her experience is so lacking that the removal of a single case cut it by 10%.

86 The AI articles bring to mind a conversation I had with my Finance Dude (Yes, that's my title for him and it is a compliment.).

He said that there is a push to have AI doing financial advising and steer people away towards interacting with people in favor of interacting with machines. He did not seem to be amused at the idea. I told him that I'm old fashioned and prefer to meet with people instead of trusting machines.

Kamala Harris’ middle name is Devi ("goddess"). There’s a constellation with two stars named Alamak and Sirrah (Kamala and Harris backwards) in the Andromeda galaxy, where in Greek mythology means sacrificed to the beast.

They're stars in our galaxy, not M31, in the constellation Andromeda. Sirrah is also known as Alpheratz.

I am hoping that I can avoid my addiction to this site until after the election, so if someone feels so inclined maybe they could put up some devotionals and nice stories and hymns or jokes

Someone on the prayer thread suggested a group prayer for the election, but I forget when it was supposed to be. I thought it was a good idea so illl have to check.

If anyone feels moved to do so, please pray for my running mate and me. Democrats outnumber Republicans 3:1 although we have lots of Independent voters. We really do want to serve for the good of our community. The Democrats running are nice people but they have way more money and IMO, if you're still running as a Democrat you endorse if only tacitly its far left
move.

Thanks so much!

131 31 So, I've got my new Android 13 based smartphone set up (Thank you Horde for all the suggestions a few days ago - very helpful.)
