Quote II

"Just by being born here, our son benefits from the love, support and hope of so many people -- even though he has achieved absolutely nothing in life yet," Toshiki Kato

Dude there was a Halloween festivity taking place. Genius Award Winner.

WILLINGTON, CT (WFSB) - A man was arrested for going 118 MPH on I-84 in Willington Saturday morning.

State police say that at around 7:21 a.m., a trooper was patrolling I-84 east near exit 69 in Tolland when they were passed by a blue Hyundai Elantra with New York license plates.

WATCH: Tearful Team Captain Says Nevada Tried to Force Women’s Volleyball Team to Play Against Transgender Player

Last week, the women’s volleyball team at the University of Nevada forfeited its game against San Jose State due to the team’s concern about playing against a transgender player. Still, the forfeit came despite the pressure from Nevada administrators to play the game anyway.

Nevada’s athletic department officially announced the forfeit on Friday, noting that the team would not have enough players to take the court.

Filler material or is Ann Coulter really concerned about kick ass pot?

Remember all those great ideas George Soros had about crime and open borders? Guess what the spawn of Satan, whose every idea is designed to increase human misery, is pushing now? Legal weed.

Switching out Americans for third worlders and releasing violent predators from prison gave him kicks for a while. But way too many Americans had not yet become McDonald’s-fattened, glassy-eyed deadbeats who spend most of their time sprawled across a filthy couch ordering DoorDash pizza, playing video games and not looking for work.

Legalizing marijuana is the last step, the silver bullet to the heart of what’s left of our country. Tantalize the public with a drug that will turn them into low-IQ losers, crashing cars, committing suicide and rushing to emergency rooms with their cannabis-induced scromiting (uncontrollable screaming and vomiting at the same time — one of the many charming side-effects of widely available pot).

The legacy media is dying. The new media is playing a huge roll in Free Speech.

The influence of a corrupted mainstream media that grows more despised and distrusted by the day was already on the ropes and Joe Rogan’s sit-down with Donald J. Trump could be the knockout punch.

On Friday, the highly anticipated interview between the former president and the most popular podcaster on the planet came to fruition as their 3-hour conversation blew up on social media and alternative media platforms with more than 19 million viewers in the first 24 hours alone.

The Trump-Rogan interview “signifies the end of legacy media” in the opinion of another podcaster, Shawn Ryan who shoveled dirt on the media coffin in a video that the former Navy SEAL posted to X on Saturday.

It would be useful if some public-spirited person could identify some of the people pretending to be doctors - identifying the gay LA actors in the "Men For Harris" ad helped turn that into a laughingstock.

I mean, sure, CrowdStrike is liable here, but can they also sue the European Union for insisting that Microsoft open its OS' tender innards to any security vendor who requested access, thus rendering Microsoft Windows unable to defend against rogue updates?

(Yeah, that's rhetorical, because "sovereign" entities like the EU write the rules so they can't be sued without their permission. Nice loophole if you can get it.)

51 can they also sue the European Union

John Cochrane has a piece on the EU destroying productivity.

The conference was largely about Germany’s economic challenges. You do not believe the burden imposed on firms via EU and German regulations in recent years. The aim of such regulations is to protect personal data, to protect birds, to protect trees in the whole world, to protect working conditions and avoid child labor in the world, force firms to have complete carbon emission accounts, including carbon emission from all the input they import from the whole world, to ensure cyber security, including of global firms that provide inputs.

I hear about firms that want to (continue to) import chocolate, coffee beans, meat into the EU, but cannot do so, as their traditional suppliers from Africa or Latin America cannot prove that the land they use to produce agricultural inputs for such product was not cleared of woodland withing the last I think 4-5 years.

The theme of the article is that all EU manufacturing is going to get outsourced to the Third World, thanks to these regulations.

Can't prove that the cobalt in your product is free of child labor exploitation in the Congo? Buy the product from a Chinese firm instead.

The EU, after all, invented the "precautionary principle", which states that you can't do anything new unless you can prove in advance that it is absolutely safe.

"SpaceX had to do a study to see if Starship would hit a shark. I'm like "It's a big ocean, there's a lot of sharks. It's not impossible, but it's very unlikely." OK fine, we'll do it, but we need the data, can you give us the Shark data?

They said no.

They said they could give the data to their Western division but they don't trust them.

We're like, 'Is this a comedy?' Eventually we got the data, and the sharks were going to be fine.

We thought we were done.

But then they hit us with: 'Well, what about whales?"

When you look at the Pacific, how many whales do you see? Honestly, if we did hit a whale, the whale had it coming, because the odds are so low. It's like Final Destination: whale edition.

True. In the last thirty years, Silicon Valley has shifted from being one of the most entrepreneurial places in history to a monoculture dominated by a handful of huge firms, whose primary interest is keeping competitors from challenging them.

196 80mph Speed Limits are not uncommon out on the vast emptiness of open Western Highways.

You *need* your car to have an upper limit approaching 120 mph, so that at 80, its operating at about 60% of Design Limits.

If all the car could do is 85, then 80mph is well over 90% of Design Limits, and it's really very, VERY unsafe at 90% of Design Limits.

60%, it can do all day without breaking a sweat. Brakes, tires, suspension, all made for it. 90% is skating on thin ice with a jet-heated single blade. Bad news is not a matter of "if", but WHEN.

203 Speaking of Icelanders, I see that they're planning to drill directly into a magma chamber in the next year or two.

Pretty badassed.

They've been using geothermal energy for quite a long time not, but that's generally just drilling into hot (but not molten) rock and injecting water to produce steam.

This new project is going to be looking at using actual magma, which will take the energy density up to a whole new level.

Pretty badass. They may be Scandis, but the Viking blood is still strong in the Icelanders.

I do notice that they're doing this in one of the remote regions of the country. They're badasses, not idiots.

240 In the Jules Verne original, it is hinted, in an oblique way, that the adventurers enjoyed the favors of an Icelandic farm wife with whom they had lodged, with the tacit approval of her husband.

This refers to a long-standing practice of the Icelanders --- they're incredibly inbred, so they try to glom on to all the foreign DNA they can. Sort of a "don't ask, don't tell" situation.

This continues even into modern times. There's a reason why US soldiers and airmen stationed there referred to Reykjavik as "Break ya' dick".

There are a couple of experimental ways of drilling without a bit, avoiding the whole problem of the bit being damaged by the heat.
one uses "millimeter waves" which are tuned microwaves from a drill end emitter, and the other is a plasma torch.
There would still be a problem with the borehole into plastic rock, but you could get deeper or at least hotter than the Russians' deep drill.

The millimeter wave bit is being developed by a group that sees drilling on the sites of old coal powered generator plants so they can take advantage of the transmission net and the equipment for handling steam power for generation.

353 I took my new RAV4 TRD for an extended trip from over by Arizona to I-25 using the forest service roads, country roads, and New Mexico State highways through and north of the Gila National Forest. It should be noted that New Mexico's idea of county roads and state highways is a loose concept and mostly consists of roads maintained my wishful thinking from the head office.

What I learned is the RAV4 TRD is a rather capable light duty SUV (stipulation it's not a frame on body off-road tank okay?). The dedicated all-wheel drive for loose dirt and rocks stabilized the car when grinding up the endless steep bumpy slopes and when coming down locking the car into second gear and using the electronic descent made everything quite lovely. With that said I wouldn't want to be out there if a monsoon rain hit cuz it would promptly get stuck in the endless mud. Plus the gas mileage of the 2.5L four-banger alleviated all range anxiety. My only complaint is it needs two more inches of lift.

TL;DR: It may be Dora the Explorer, but it's a pretty decent edition of Dora the Explorer.

It’s worse than that. Even if they were genuine, hard pipe-hittin’ MDs, no Doctor is going to jump into the crowd to save you, necessarily. Either way, it doesn’t matter.

My understanding is many/most states have what are called “Good Samaritan” laws. What that means, if as a “civilian” I try to help someone in public in medical distress, I am immune more or less from being sued. Because, I’m not a Doctor, right?

The big problem with geothermal power is that rock is a pretty poor conductor of heat. You drill into it, suck out the contained heat by circulating water, and now you have chilled the rock, and it takes a long time to recover.

Yeah, the 2 girls it was hard to escape details. The others I have pretty much not looked. It is kind of odd because I am usually morbidly curious.

But after looking up just the synopsis of the Serbian film was enough to turn my stomach, I can leave well enough alone.

386 Probably depends on the state. Or the medical group. Or who knows.

Leaving the scene of an accident is considered especially bad, because the proximate cause additionally failed to render aid. This is required by law when you are the cause of the injury.

In some states, anyone else can (usually) decline to render aid without fear of later arrest or whatever. The “Good Samaritans” that got sued and probably what sparked those laws must have had some sort of assets, usually the average person is judgment proof or near enough.

Which makes what Aviator & Nurse Ratchet did for me at the TxMoMeet all the more impressive.

I *know* the rules. I'm not Aviator's patient. I won't go to him for medical advice, he can't give me any, not having run a full history and exam on me.

He SEES my distress, knows I'm hurtin'. So does Nurse. But I know the rules, and won't go ask.

Suffice to say, "intermediaries" got involved, and created the necessary link. I didn't get the full background or exam. But enough of which, he knew my ass belonged in the E.R.

I think had I not agreed to DO so, they and several others would've dragged me there, anyway.

But, no diagnosis was made, no treatment was given. Everyone was safe.

Well, except for me, but y'all already KNOW that one. lol

Stay strong my friend. Stay strong. Maybe I'll come to Texas and take you out for a drink.

428 The history of L.S.D. is interesting in that regard, as it sort or tracks that hypothesis.

At first, so the story goes, it was thought that only “leaders” and the Beautiful People should take it, this was the prevailing view about 1950 and several years later, when hardly anyone had yet heard too much about it. It was much too important a drug to be allowed to the great unwashed masses, for goodness sake. So people like Henry Luce, of Time magazine fame, or Cary Grant, etc.

About this time the CIA was contacting the Swiss firm that at the time, was the sole manufacturer, wanting to purchase the entire known world supply, ostensibly to keep it from falling into the hands of the Soviets. They then went about several years of covert testing and experimentation on prisoners, military, CIA employees, and setting up shops in several cities for testing on unwitting civilians.

Much testing was conducted through US universities, by this time a different attitude developed from people like Ken Kesey and “merry pranksters” (part of the CIA testing program, as was Ted Kaczynski) and Prof. Tim Leary of Harvard, who was fired for his “Everybody should take acid” proselytizing.

Liz Cheney thinks many Republicans are keeping quiet out of fear and will secretly vote for Kamala:

Not really - simply gently amputate your leg at just below the lesser trochanter level on the femur. Try not to make too much noise otherwise the cat will wake up and then you will be in a lot of pain. Try to keep the amputated limb warm to keep the cat comfortable.

Keeping with my surgical theme: Liz Cheney is a cancerous tumor on the corpus politic that will, hopefully (God willing) soon be excised. It's also good that The Turtle McConnell is stepping down although I wish he had retired completely much earlier this year - this would have been a good electoral cycle to have his seat up for election now that a special election is how that vacancy would be filled. Sigh. As usual, McConnel continues to screw us a GOPe-er even when he is out of a leadership position. Plus ca change eh?

483 I've got a sore rib low on my left side, though I don't know from what; I haven't banged myself against anything. It started late last week. Twinges when I stretch or twist, or breathe too deeply. I didn't notice it during my workout yesterday morning, but then, with vigorous exercise the endorphins get flowing and you don't notice mild aches until you finish.

I guess it'll be time for a the elastic rib belt for a few days, and maybe a heating pad.
