NBC Poll: Trump Leads Nationally 48-46%; Leads the Battleground States 48-47%; Now Has Higher Favorability Ratings Than Harris

Trump's net favorability isn't great, but it's better than he's ever had: He's at -6, net, favorable minus unfavorable. 42% favorable, 48% unfavorable.

But Harris is at -10. She's at only 39% favorable, 49% unfavorable.

That said: A guy on Twitter was being a real rag. He was complaining about Republicans showing irrational exuberance, which will lead to Republicans thinking they've got it in the bag and not doing much of anything to help get out the vote. Or even vote themselves.

We did our endzone dancing before we actually put the ball in the endzone in 2022. Good thing we got our endzone dancing in early, because we never scored.

He makes a good point and I hope everyone realizes that if this is even close, they will steal it. They will only not steal it if Trump's victory is so clear that it would require cheating on such a level that it could not be disguised. The Democrat vote-counters in Atlanta will only not discover thousands and thousands of new votes at 4am if they know that the cheating will be obvious and that they will face state police raids and prosecutions if they dare it.

So take this not a good news but merely animating news. If you're discouraged, don't be. Your vote will count, even if it's only to pad the margin in a state Trump wins. Trump just pulled ahead in Miami-Dade in the early vote (assuming Republicans vote for Trump and Democrats vote for Harris). Yes, Miami, a liberal blue city.

If you're a Republican in safe Florida, it is still imperative to vote, to canvass, to knock on doors, to join call centers, to volunteer to bring voters to the polls because a huge, say, 18 point victory will make it extremely suspicious if Georgia "goes for Harris" only because more Democrat voters were counted in Fulton County than the actual number of voters living in Fulton County.

If you're a Republican in New Mexico, do not assume the state is going to the Democrats and sit on your ass. There's a "shock" poll -- though I'm not all that shock -- that New Mexico is now gettable for Trump.

It's difficult to believe the former President Donald Trump can win New Mexico, but a newly released poll by KA Consulting claims the Republican ticket is only down three percentage points against Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris.

KA Consulting's metrics claim a much closer race than the symphony of major pollsters, all of whom have Harris comfortably carrying the Southwestern state. KA Consulting polled 612 likely voters between October 16 and 18 and cited a recent NBC poll that found Trump's position strengthening among Hispanics as evidence that Trump can pull off a shocking upset in the Sun Belt. Nearly half of the state's population identifies as Hispanic, and the politics of a border state cannot be discounted during an election cycle where illegal immigration has dominated policy discussions.

Bear in mind that Kamala Harris's only has a couple of paths to victory, by which I mean, states she could conceivably win to get her to just slightly above 269 electoral votes. If she loses a "safe" state like New Mexico, she has no chance. None.

If she loses New Mexico, she has to make that up by flipping a solid Trump state like, say, Missouri. That's impossible.

Furthermore, a Trump win in New Mexico or even a very narrow loss would make the Sudden Discovery of tens of thousand of Harris ballots in Philadelphia or Madison look like a crime.

They will only not cheat if they know their cheating will be punished with jail time, and they will only know that if they see that it is simply Too Big to Steal.

There is good news all over, but it must be taken as merely a call to action, not a call to inaction. So many people have changed their party registration from D to Independent or D to Republican that the Democrat registration advantage in PA has gone from a million voter advantage for Democrats to less than 300,000.

The Wall Street Journal poll confirms a wave for Trump:

Polls are bullshit, only votes count: But these polls demonstrate that your votes will count, if we cast enough of them.

Townhall's Rebecca Downs quotes from the (paywalled) WSJ:

Views of Harris have turned more negative since August, when equal shares of voters viewed her favorably and unfavorably. Now, the unfavorable views are dominant by 8 percentage points, 53% to 45%. Moreover, voters give Harris her worst job rating as vice president in the three times the Journal has asked about it since July, with 42% approving and 54% disapproving of her performance.

By contrast, views of Trump have turned rosier. Voters recall his time as president more positively than at any point in this election cycle, with 52% approving and 48% disapproving of his performance in office--a 4-point positive job rating that contrasts with the 12-point negative rating for Harris.

Real Clear Politics has Harris up 0.2 nationally, but that is only due to the absurdly-skewed Democrat Morning Consult "poll," which isn't even poll (they pay a chosen panel to keep calling them). That poll has it Harris +4, which is preposterous, and is the only thing keeping Harris above water in the average.

Also, of course: Harris needs to win nationally by 3% to have a 50/50 chance of winning in the electoral college. A tied national vote is a big Trump electoral drubbing.

But all of this depends on us not allowing the Democrat/Media Regime to demoralize us into thinking we are already defeated before the contest is even run, propandizing us into believing we will lose because we are losers and the Democrats are strong and will crush us because we are weak and cowardly.

I don't think we are -- but if we lose this, we will be proven to be paper tigers who talk a lot but then when it's time to do a simple ten-minute task -- or a twenty minute task if you have to register still -- we decide we'd rather lose and be dominated by remorseless authoritarians who do, in fact, plan to imprison us for resisting their efforts to take America into the third world.

Gallup's numbers on Trump's favorability are even better: According to Gallup, Trump is at 50% majority favorability for the first time in his entire political career.

It's nice to have an early lead, as Trump did with Biden.

It's better to have a late lead, as Trump does now.

As Alec Baldwin's character said in Glengarry Glenn Ross: " They're sitting out there waiting to give you their money. Are you gonna take it? Are you man enough to take it?!"

A friend said to me, "I don't want to start celebrating early, but you can feel the tide turning in real time."

Again, I do not want to encourage inaction, but action.

Let's remember what this is about: The feeling of outright out-of-body elation we felt in 2016, and avoiding the feeling of disorientation and dread we felt in 2020 and 2022.

There's going to be a Coffin Dance for one half of the country or the other.

I say we make sure we're the ones carrying the coffins, not the ones carried in them.

Some have shown a 1-3 point race consistently since June.

I see this differently. I think 2020 was very obvious. I'm pretty sure polls (yes, polls!) of the American public have already shown a majority does not believe that 2020 was on the up and up. So I don't think there is an outcome that is so one-sided that it puts it beyond fraud. People think for some reason that the public won't stand for it, but I think they will because they have. And really, who wants to be the nail standing up if it's stolen again? What is anyone really going to do about it? Nothing.

Harris is in Houston tomorrow. Everyone thinks that's stupid, and it would be if this was a real election. But if the outcome is decided, why not?

Thanks for the encouragement, Ace. Bill Jacobsen over at "Legal Insurrection" also encouraged people not to be demoralized in an article a couple of weeks ago.

To me the analogy is when a sports team has a good season or a bad season. If fans know they're going to lose, attendance is poor. A winning team though, and the place is packed with fans.

We should never assume we have it in the bag, but for he side that looks like it's a lost cause, they're the ones that give up and dont participate.

Biden had an image of middle class and moderate appeal. It was all bullshit, but he had the image, the brand.

Then, Democrats conspired to force him off the ticket and replaced him with a San Francisco progressive who barely won her own Senate race in California, dropped out of the 2020 presidential primary before Iowa despite starting the race as the frontrunner, and can't speak.

But there were never going to be negative consequences to that. Never. Democrats would just rally.

-------

One or the other.
Posted by: ...
=====
A little of both. A largely unvetted Kamala slid into the race without a lot being known about her compared with any modern candidate for the presidency since primaries began.

So, as they get to know her, not being California where races are fixed, a lot of the public gave her a chance and now doesn't like her based on what they've seen.

Furthermore, Kamala's attempt to turn this into a base election by negative advertising and making it all about Trump gives people no reason to actually vote for her if they don't like what Biden has done in office. She won't or can't dump on Biden and she won't or can't chart a newer popular course. Instead she relied on fakery, obscurity, and staying in friendly settings. She could not even manage that.

Going negative with FUD on Trump worked best in 2016 Now, though, he has a prior positive track record at variance with the Dem slime tactics.

She's running way behind Biden's '20 early returns. Why trust jerryrigged polls when early voting results by Party is available. Republicans are outpacing Democrats in Florida right now by 9% and roughly 1/3 of the State's total vote is counted. Seven Florida Man counties have even yet to post data which will increase this spread. She's getting steamrolled here when Biden only lost by 3. You can make inferences for other states from particular Florida counties. Unlike 2022 when particular Senators were running, these results do not operate in a vacuum. https://flvoicenews.com/florida-ge-live-data/

I will tell you the mistake they made, as I recognized it about six weeks ago - and then changed my mind and said Trump was going to win, even beyond The Steal.

Pay attention because this here is gold and, unlike the other shit I say, I probably will never repeat it.

The mistake they made was they attempted to present Kamala as a blank slate, anything to anyone, everything to everyone. Yes there were some attempts at making her a brat or a girl boss or whatever other shit they could stick to her (they couldn't), but in reality they tried to pull an Obama with someone who can't fucking speak.

And what that all did, inadvertently and I'm not sure how they missed it other than sheer fucking hubris, is it left the door wide open for the branding king himself to *define* her.

I think they expected a nickname, and had specific plans to handle that eventuality, but what they didn't expect was a relentless - absolutely targeted and relentless - branding exercise that would shape the world's perception of her. That cackle at the end of every other Trump ad (usually showing death, rioting, depression and destruction) was magical.

Not an election lawyer, but my understanding was you could swap Biden with Harris, but someone else outside at the top of the ticket would have been more difficult with all these state election laws.

145 81 Respectfully, I don't really subscribe to the idea that if a side thinks they're going to win, they don't show up.

Dems invested in the stock market have done ok is part of it or in gubmint/ngos/contractors due to huge deficit spending. Welfare types view the Dems as a piggie bank. But, contrary to Romney, that is probably only 43-44 percent of voters which is about the lowest Biden polled. Trump probably starts out with about 45-46 percent and usually, a referendum election ends up with the remaining 10 percent going 2:1 or better to the challenger.

Leaving aside cheating, I think 52-53 is about the ceiling for Trump which in EV terms would be sizable gains. House and Senate, since polling is apparently broken are chancier predictions with Trump bringing in low propensity voters that might ticket split. Senate probably goes GOP at this point regardless. House turns on a small number of swing districts where almost all media polling is shoddy. EV totals are probably the best proxy for that right now.

160 random thoughts. It's been a while since the GOP candidate was surging into the lead with 10 days to go.

W was up at this point in October 2004, but the media was trying to generate a "Kerry getting late surge! Could take Ohio!" story around this time, too.

The story now is Trump is surging and Harris is fading, and there's just not enough time left to turn that around. Even in the days before there was so much early voting, the America Electorate seems to make a decision with around 10 days to go, to the point where no October Surprise or shocking revelation can sway them this late in the game, unless one of those eace time/prosperity era elections where there's no sense of urgency on either side. That's how it was in 2000, and W's DUI thing cost him a ton of late deciders. This isn't that kind of election becuase the nation is in shambles and all the metrics wildly favor one candidate over the other.

Mid-to-late October surges tend to happen because undecided people start becoming decided, and usually it happens in a cascade, where non-political people just go with the candidate that will be better for their pocketbooks.

That's Trump.

I still visit NJ and have family there. You have decay and business closures like I've never seen in SJ (in the expensive parts of Cherry Hill and Voorhees). Do not give up on your state. Even if you don't shock with a Trump win, some of the down races, especially in the House, are winnable (and I still think that state could shock...I couldn't believe the state the state was in May 2024)...

Trump saw White Non-College as undeveloped beach-front property and built on it. Now he's selling condos. This will be a lasting legacy as he's redefining the R party to be a slightly right-of-center populist party.

Look at her most recent appearances anywhere from the last two weeks or even since the Vance/Walz debate. It's getting so bad for Harris that pretty much every TV newsreader is getting frustrated with Harris - all of them but for the most radical hacks from MSNBC. It's quite a spectacle.

Harris simply cannot do the job and every turn/pivot reveals more incapability. Her disapproval is going to continue to increase. It's really her brand.

What is sure, if Trump wins the popular vote and the probable EV over his 2016 election, then he will proclaim it and the media will do the witless counterproductive fact checking that actually gets Trump's message across.

2020 was the demarcation point where normal politics and political rules no longer apply. That is fairly typical of a regime (in this sense the whole shebang of our institutions) is in crisis. We are off the map.

Vance said yesterday on a podcast:

1) Betting sites have more predictive value than polls. When he said this, RCP betting sites aggregate was Trump +23 (today it's Trump +19), which means bettors believe Trump is 20 points or so more likely to win than Harris.

2) Vance also said that a newspaper poll typically costs $10000-$20000 to run. He said a quality internal poll costs $70000, in order to obtain a better sample, i.e., voters who are hard to contact.

3) Vance used his own 2022 Senate race in OH to illustrate his points. Public polls on the eve of that election had him down by 6. His internals had him up by 5-6 points. He won by 7 points.

Trump has a personal constituency--that is not necessarily the same as the GOP. Basically the GOP has a dogshit reputation among persuadable voters.

Look at someone like McConnell as senate leader or the squishy McCarthy and Johnson leadership in the House. All of them have repeatedly done the opposite of what they promised and backstabbed/crushed any of their internal party caucus that opposed them.

Voting for the lesser evil GOP ain't motivating anyone other than Team Red partisans.

295 Here is my guess for how things are going to turn out.
- There are some states that have cheat potential in place. Other states it is harder, and some states very limited.

-Once the Dems know how many EC votes they need, they will look at what they have in their hand and decide which states have to cheat to get over the top. I do not think there is a realistic limit to how much they can cheat in some states, but there are a limited number of states where they think they can get away with it. So the margin of cheat is measured in EC votes, not percentage ahead. For this reason Trump needs to flip as many states as possible If you are in a Dem state, vote -- it may matter.

For instance, Maricopa County may need 300% turnout for the dems to win AZ. They will do it, declare, and have the courts and judges make it official. This is the purpose behind the "it may take 10 days before we count all the votes" BS (the later the decision, the less time to sue.) And the statements about suppressing talk of a cheat, or the talk of Trump not being willing to concede.

There are actually laws in every state on this matter and death of a candidate is almost always a way to change to the party's nominee for the big job. Usually what happens is the dead guy takes office and is replaced posthumously.

I would suspect that Trump and the RNC have already gamed this out after the two attempts.

There is also the risk that everything goes to shit which will eliminate a lot of the current assholes in office of both parties.

There is always the Charles Guiteau risk but I think Deep State sanctioned attempts are probably less of a risk now.

Virginia's ballot this year is different than any before. For the president, you either vote Republican (with Trump/Vance listed below) or Democrat (with Cackle/Walz listed below). So for that you are voting for the party, not the people. I guess because this race has been so crazy, they want to make sure elections go forward no matter what.

___

Plus there were several things in motion in 2022 that hadn't fully played out yet. College-educated white women had completely sold their souls to the godless left. The movement of blue collar to the GOP stalled after the 2020 election. It literally took 4 years of pain for Hispanic and black men to see the world differently. It took a generation of college kids getting a year or two reality under their belt.

349 CA was doomed by the Jungle Primary law, not so much by mail in balloting. They had plenty of fraud before that, too. The Jungle Primary means that usually no R is on the ballot at statewide level.
Posted by: Oldcat
====
The jungle primary itself is fine if you play the game like they do in LA which is now firmly red. California though with the likelihood of fraud from 10-20 percent of the electorate is simply not winnable for statewide elections by the GOP no matter how the jungle primary benefits the majority party. The stench from Arnie's terms as governor also have something to to with it along with political refugees fleeing the state.

CA GOP would do better to disband and create a statewide party like in Minnesota or NY that runs its own candidates and caucuses at the national level as a swing delegation for the state.

A new party would not have the baggage that the old GOP does in California.

365 Respectfully, I don't really subscribe to the idea that if a side thinks they're going to win, they don't show up.

One reason preference cascades happen is because a lot of LIVs want to be on the "winning" team. This is a big reason why pollsters inflate the Dem numbers. People who've never given two thoughts about politics, or likely anything else, will vote for the Dem so they can be part of the "in crowd".

However... among the people who know who they want to vote for, the people who've chosen a side, knowing that their side is going to lose absolutely makes some of them not vote. We have real world examples, like when the media called Florida for the Dem while the polls in the panhandle were still open. It's also why they'll never call the election for the Republican while the polls are still open in Cali.

The dems are challenging in court, and their case in the long run is much stronger if they can "show" that the new strict rules are not warranted. So, now all the Massholes are being held back from illegally jumping on the early voting train for NH like they always have in the past. I'm sure Sununu is disappointed at this development.

Actually that DoD regulation is simply a scare tactic because unless Biden issues a proclamation of insurrection under the Insurrection Act (which has several differing clauses as to triggering events), any DoD personnel and whoever ordered them to do illegal acts would be subject to justice after the fact. Every military officer is taught not to follow illegal orders and my guess if they ordered street level officers to fire on crowds, the military would likely balk or even units disintegrating as cohesion is suddenly lost.

Even in Tianenmen Square massacre, the Chicoms had to bring in rural troops that hated the students to take them down. The rural troops in this case would be more likely to shoot the coup masters.

398 And with that recent DoD Directive 5240.01 (which authorizes the government to use lethal force against civilians), could it be that if Trump is elected, the left somehow declares it null and void, and decrees that Kamala shall be president, so they're just preparing the way for any resistance? Or similarly, the cheat is so big and obvious that people take to the streets, only to be given the Tiananmen treatment?
Posted by: Uncle Jefe at October 24, 2024 05:35 PM (gAuAm)

You're talking about the Maduro/Venezuela option, but remember that it worked because Chavez disarmed everyone about 20 years ago. Also Venezuela is a military dictatorship, with significant military garrisons in every city. That won't fly in America; they try to not recognize Trump and Florida and Texas immediately recognize him anyway, and soon many other states would as well. So then there would be Two competing US governments, and it would remain to be seen if they really want to push things in to open civil war. I doubt that could happen, more likely that the country just breaks up if they choose that path.

1) get subordinates that follow direction and have a bit of fire in the belly. You can't do this alone - you need subordinates. JD Vance is already a great pick. Grannell, Pompeo - definitely bring them back. I'd look at a few people like Vivik and Tulsi. Competence and loyalty. Shared vision. Heck, that's half the cabinet right there. AG is your most important post - choose wisely.

2) Make the bureaucracy comply with your wishes. If you sense, for even a second, some third level loser is slow walking your policy, you yank them off the job. If you can fire them do so. if you can't rubber room the assholes and hire their permanent replacement.

460 Exactly, and there was a similar case in AZ where the polls had the Republican Senate down double digits then magically only lost by only around 1%.

My only issue with that kind of thinking of dismissing all polling is it starts to look delusional.

But no one is delusional thinking Trump looks really strong here.

Posted by: Blago at October 24, 2024 05:44 PM (QKtVi)

Even in this thread we have seen that the actual politicians use their own polls that are more accurate. So it is hardly delusional to dismiss the MSM polls that vary widely on the same day depending on source, change radically for no reason and routinely follow the pattern of decreasing the lie factor when the final destination is in sight.

535 Bono doesn't play anything (that I'm aware of, anyway) and the rest of the band is generic.

...

Oh. Oh. You havent had to watch the Rattle and Hum movie then.

Bono tries to break out the acoustic. On one song he makes repeated trips to the amps trying to fiddle with something as if he needs to improve the sound. It's basically a prop in his hands. He didn't know enough about playing guitar to realize what people who actually play guitar were going to think about his performance.

Never been my cup. Nor Stryper

There's a band whose whole catalog I don't like that much, but Big Tent Revival did an album called Amplifier and the last 5 "hidden tracks" on that Album are all fire.

I was used to their semi-saccharine, preachy country-style rock pop.

Some of my favorite non-prog bands have been Christian performers/bands.

PFR was a big one. And I'll still listen to Skypark's first two.

Switchfoot got so popular they made the secular charts pretty quickly.

Mark Levin: George Soros Investment in Audacy an ‘Attack on Free Speech News'
Author: BNM Staff, October 1, 2024

In part, "On Monday, the FCC approved the reorganization plan for Audacy that included major backing from foreign billionaire George Soros. Nationally syndicated radio host Mark Levin railed against the move by the FCC. During The Mark Levin Show on Monday, Levin argued that the commission circumvented its own rules and guidelines to push the acquisition through.

“This is their idea of free speech. This is their idea of radio. And this is a direct attack on conservative talk radio. So where is everybody?! Well, I’ll take the point as usual, and I don’t mind,” Levin said.

“As of this morning, the FCC voted three to two — all the Democrats — to hand him 220 radio stations and one of the biggest accumulation of radio stations ever,” said Levin. “But there’s many problems with this. Number one, George Soros is using over 25% investment from foreign investors. These are American radio stations. Number two, the FCC has slashed and sped up the process before the election to ... Yes, and no.

Let's remember that the fix was in for Hillary in 2016, and she was surprised as hell when Scorecard and Hammer were quietly stopped. There was clearly a point to allowing the steal in 2020, and if we live long enough it may become obvious what it was.

Let's not forget other things hiding in plain sight. 10s of thousands of National Guard troops surrounding the Capital following the 2020 election. Supposedly to protect the transition from MAGA people, when anybody who wasn't a deranged lunatic knew damn well that MAGA people were being told not to go there - "it's a trap!" SO why were they there? Trump took off to FL on AF1 20JAN2020, apparently with the nuclear football. A Special Forces team apparently knew J6 was going to happen, infiltrated the event, and STOLE sensitive information from the Speaker's office (just think about that for a second)! Trump was still holding cabinet meetings after he left office. Pompeo was still doing diplomatic missions. Speaker Johnson described himself as a "wartime Speaker", and nobody even asked "WTF?"
