I'm not all that charitable, on balance.
But I had an idea for a charity, and it's not even a scam, oddly enough. I'd probably skim a few bucks. That's obligate skimming, and I'd keep it to a minimum, though. I promise.
The idea is to raise money to buy those 3D laser scanners for buildings, and use them to create models of America's architecture, from the national cathedral down to the last little teepee, so that future civilizations can see how we once lived and weep in their squalor.

Most grocery store butter includes food coloring of some sort to make it the expected shade of yellow, since cows are usually inside ludicrous size barns eating feed instead of grazing on pasture. Kerrygold is pricy because amongst other things it doesn't need added shit for the coloring. I've seen other similar brands popping up, plus there's a general store nearby recommended by my neighbor that I still have not gotten around to checking out.

And there were the Eagles. And before them the Flying Burrito Brothers. Somehow I never discovered Manassas and I need to give them a listen.
If I hadn't gone to college in Tucson in the mid-late Seventies I may never have heard any of the 70s LA rock-country music other than the Eagles. The other bands got a lot of air-play on Tuscon album rock FM stations, helped by Linda Ronstadt being from Tucson.

First off: not "mining" as we know it. They are talking about extracting lithium from formation brines in an existing oil/gas producing formation. Same thing is being done in Saskatchewan.
Second: the figures being bandied around are very, very speculative. If it costs more to extract it from the brine than it can fetch on the market, it is worth exactly zero.

As an aside, I live in a house that was owned by Cecil Philips' uncle. Cecil's mother operated a gift shop nearby. His story is pretty damned amazing. At 18, he was rejected by the Army, for flat feet. An Lt. at the recruiting station suggested that he might fit in with the SIS. Off he went to Arlington Hall, and the rest is history. Things are still a mess, and will be for a long time. But we now have water (for certain values of 'water'), but brown and nasty, can't be consumed, but works gloriously for flushing the commode. Hard to tell if one comes out of a shower cleaner, or nastier.
Lots of donated food still being handed out to people lined up, same with potable water. Most impressive are the volunteer organizations from all over the nation who have trooped in and are doing yeoman work. I've got great stories I could tell about volunteers traveling here to help. They tell me that FEMA is out there somewhere. Haven't encountered them myself. The kind of stuff we're seeing here: http://tiny.cc/xhsrzz

Nah. The public was tired of the European theater but the Sovs had lost millions and were utterly dependent on us for all kinds of fuel, food, munitions, trucks, etc. We also had heavy bombers that Germany hadn't come close to.

Best of America - still a lot of great people that want to do the right thing/help. The pic you linked is pretty telling. That 40FT container in the background weighs about 8600lbs and looks like it was tossed around like a tissue. You mentioned a few days ago that you were delivering water. How are those folks holding up? And how are you holding up?

I was hauling flush water to them as who could not do it for themselves. 5 gal/person/day. I felt like the milkman. After filling the empties each morning, I'd drive around the neighborhood with my lawn tractor, pulling a trailer full of containers, deliver a fresh container(s) to the front porch, pick up the empties, head home. I don't miss it.
