105 Games of luck and chance often appear in Man Ray’s work. Like other Surrealist artists, he regarded the creative process much like a game, requiring creativity, intelligence, and a playful approach to problem-solving. Man Ray was an American artist who spent most of his life in Europe, where he was a leading figure in the European avant-garde.

Welcome back, nurse! I hope you had a lovely time.

WC Fields story - one year, when he and Ed Wynn were in the Ziegfeld Follies together, Fields was on stage doing his pool shooting act when he heard an abnormal amount of laughter from the audience. Looking around, he saw Wynn under the pool table, making funny faces at the people.

Calmly, Fields walked over and cracked his cue over Wynn's head. The audience roared with laughter as Wynn yelled in pain, holding his hands to his aching head.

At the close of the show, Fields said to Wynn, "Hey, that was a lot of fun. We should do that every night."

Wynn never tried to hijack a Fields act again.

Seven Jewish Israelis have been arrested for allegedly carrying out tasks for Iran, including taking photos and gathering information on IDF bases, the Justice Ministry says.

According to a statement from the State Attorney's Office, the seven, from Haifa and other northern towns, include a deserter soldier and two minors.

The seven allegedly gathered information on the Nevatim and Ramat David airbases, the IDF HQ in Tel Aviv, Iron Dome batteries, the Golani training base, and other sites, per the instructions of their Iranian operators.

Indictments are expected to be filed against the suspects on Friday, the ministry adds

This idea that there will be huge crossover votes this year is curious.

What's the biggest example we have without a prominent third party?

2008? What was it then? According to Wikipedia and whatever source they use for their charts, 9% of Republicans voted for Obama. Also, 10% of Democrats voted for McCain.

Crossover votes are like the 269-269 split.

324 While y'all were at the TXMOME this weekend,

I was participating in my own personal Texas Chainsaw Massacre and got a body part sawed off.

Fortunately, a doctor was doing the chain sawing and replaced my sawed-off knee with a new bionic one. So, I'm 1/36th of the way to being an android!

Since in the Food Thread, CBD wanted to swap one of my kidney, that I'm still using!!!!, for some Soue Vide Opposum Tounges Soufflé recipe, I was sure that a slightly used knee from the naturalfake Collection had plenty of value, I had dropped off at Dallas' top auction house and it almost sold!

Unfortunately, they said the buyer was some weirdo ranting about maple syrup on French toast and pricy diner coffee and nekkid guys on ottomans but worst of all he wanted them to promise to stir their Manhattans. They threw him out.

342 WINNING: Key Pennsylvania County Must Provide Paper Ballots to Voters in Major Election Integrity Victory.

Blame paper ballot shortages for disenfranchising dozens of voters in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.

Some 40 precincts in this critical county southwest of Scranton, which broke heavily for Trump in 2016 and 2020, ran out of paper ballots on Election Day, forcing poll workers to turn away voters in the 2022 midterm election and outraging residents who didn’t wish to vote via electronic voting machine. While some voters were able to return later and cast a ballot at their local polling place—which were ordered by courts to remain open for two extra hours—many did not, meaning their vote was effectively suppressed by election mismanagement.

This disproportionately affected Republican voters.

345 10. Democrats’ dominance among Black voters and other racial and ethnic minority groups is slipping. It may be unfortunate timing: the memory of the Civil Rights Era is fading. Educational polarization, which implies deteriorating Democratic performance among working-class voters of all races, may also be coming to dominate other factors. It’s possible this works out well for Democrats if Harris makes corresponding gains among white voters, who pack more leverage in the Electoral College, but there’s no guarantee.

376 I always think he's cooking up some political concoction in the back room to derail Trump somehow. I don't trust him. He's a Kennedy.

True, but the chances are also that if you give him the tools to accomplish what he claims to want in the way of medical and food health, he will happily bulldoze any obstruction out of his way to achieve it. I doubt Trump is feeling to cozy with Big Harma right now, so RFKJr probably has an open door to do all he wants in that arena.
I don't think he is a traitor or a tyrant wannabe

I didn't say I trust him, only that I agree with him about the consequences of the election.

379 Steve Hodel, the retired LA cop who researched the Black Dahlia murder and is convinced his own father was the murderer, has some fascinating speculation about Man Ray's friendship with his father, and his possible knowledge of the crime.

Here's an article about Hodel's book on the Black Dahlia.

I've read Hodel's stuff. I'm not very convinced. All his 'evidence' really comes down to -

1. His father was briefly a Dahlia suspect.
2. His father carried a photo of a woman in his wallet who resembles the Dahlia.

381 How does it work with foreign resident voters like Israel? which state do their votes count in? There’s residency requirements right, like you have to have lived in the state for 30 days prior to the election or whatever. If you live in Israel (or anywhere else in the world) you’re not a resident of any state.

384 Here in my slice of TX, we use electronic machines to vote, but they print out a human-readable paper ballot that is then deposited into the actual vote-counting machine. That's how it should be done. You get the ease and convenience of electronic voting (large, clearly legible instructions and choice selections, no hanging chads, etc.), but also a paper trail.

387 Messina argued Trump has shown what he will do after the election by filing various lawsuits in battleground states that target early voting and voter rolls.

“That is a precursor to what they are going to do after the election. They are going to try to set up a way to steal this election to get some of these crazy cases to their favorite United States Supreme Court,” Messina said.

... I fully expect role reversal in this election from 2020. The Democrats will be all over the courts running into the same "no standing" arguments the Republicans faced in 2020, or magically find sympathetic judges who will grant standing, then quickly overruled by higher courts.

388 McDonald's-gate!

The New York Times@nytimes
"He doesn’t seem to know how to do it."
After Donald Trump served fast food during a campaign stop at a McDonald’s, several actual McDonald’s workers who examined a video of his performance earned mixed reviews from workers and patrons alike.

391 "RFK Jr came out yesterday advising that beef tallow was healthier then whatever fries are being cooked in now."

Which is true. McD switched from beef tallow to seed oils back around 1990. The timeline matches the start of our massive obesity problems. As for me, beef tallow just tastes better.
