Yes, it's "modern" art, but it has some texture and depth to it. It appears to be a red balloon tethered int he corner of a room with painted canvas walls -- maybe a tent of some kind? Suggesting this is a circus balloon?
Actually it doesn't look tethered, but more as if it has floated to its current level because it's filled with helium. Or it floated higher (if this room or tent has a ceiling or top), and has sunk down as the helium filtered out through the balloon skin. This idea of Trump inevitability is an attempt to suppress the Republican votes and save down ticket races. Don’t fall for it. Get out and vote. Bring someone with you to vote. Get them to get two people to vote.
The strategy is for Democrats to win the House and spend years stopping an agenda that most Americans want. Make sure you vote all the down ticket races. Posted by: Vengeance at October 24, 2024 09:50 AM (6Mth8) 144

144 4 polls out today all show Trump winning the “popular vote”. All taken before the Kelly bullshit though.
--- Even if they can't pull off the steal this time, they'll never let Trump (or any other Republican) win the mythical "popular vote". We'll find that out in late December when California turns in its last batch of harvested ballots. Can't lose that talking point, at least. I always thought 10 per cent ought to be plenty for any human being. "How much is your fair share of what someone else earned?"
Flat rate. Goes to an Escrow type thing. Everybody pays 10 per cent. But nobody pays more than 10 per cent. Let the state, local, federal etc, fight over the money. I'm done here, your problem. They could, you know - cut government borrowing instead of confiscating the people's scraps Posted by: Common Tater at October 24, 2024 10:07 AM (ejFjg) 235
215 Lets start with a constitutional amendment that caps total aggregate taxation at 50%. In other words, after you hit 50%, the federal, state, county and local taxing authorities can fight among themselves.
Posted by: SMOD at October 24, 2024 10:02 AM (RHGPo) I doubt anyone pays more than 50% in income taxes. You’d have to make a fuuuuuuckton of money for that to happen. And live in Cali or NY. And even then you’d be barely above 50%. And once you’re in that territory there’s an army of accountants to make sure you don’t pay taxes. I would make this painting an installation piece. I would make the balloon a real balloon, connected behind to a small compressed air cylinder with a valve that is regulated by the weight of the viewers looking at the piece. The more viewers, the more the balloon inflates until suddenly..."POP!"

-------- It most always starts with the "blue locusts" who flee the urban shithole they've created and head for the 'burbs. They buy property, start sniffing around things they disagree with and then show up at city council, county committee meetings and such to bitch and complain. Get told to run for office if they dislike things, and guess what? They run for office and start to implement the exact same policies that turned their urban paradise into a shithole. -- No, you get to decide who to pay first. That forces them to fight to be the lowest. And that each taxing entity has to send you their estimate by October 31, for the prior fiscal year--no more "you do your taxes, then we check your work." I saw a discussion somewhere that had a bunch of lefties musing about how Trump voters would react if Kamala somehow won the Electoral vote while losing the "Popular". Of course, they predicted mass murder and riots, projecting as usual.
I waded in and flipped it on them.... how would YOU guys react if Trump wins both votes? Some blue states have laws decreeing that they give their EVs to the PV "winner". I'm sure they'd send some "fake electors" to DC faster than you could say Jack Robinson. But if it actually happened...say, Maryland giving it's EVs to Trump...the Universe would probably explode. We have local elections in odd number years, and then we have one offs here and there for bond measures. It takes me literally 10 minutes to vote. They aren't simply calling Donald Trump a Nazi
They are calling the American people fascist, Nazi. Irredeemably Deplorable. It is interesting to see laid bare the operating assumptions of the last 50 or 60 years. The press has taken upon itself, maybe they always did, to select the candidates that are "acceptable". This has ratcheted over the years. None of you white folks are qualified, depending on who you ask. They are openly calling for the exclusion by racial categories by Americans. This is a complete 180 degree turn from what the Narrative was just a few short years ago. Well meaning and peaceable folks from all walks of life are puzzled, and frightened. Others just go along to get along. What can they do about it? Others see the opportunity to make bank. And they are. And who can blame them? Nothing personal. Business is business. "White people need to quit voting". Or "Ya'll need to step aside and let Vagina-Americans run things." The wacked out Teacher's Lounge bong hit sessions are now largely corporate and public policy. What a long strange trip it has been. "Conservatives" couldn't even keep kiddie fuckers out of the public libraries or the Kindergardens. From a Daniel Greenfield article at Frontpagemag.com, a must-read. (Forget about Baptists: this is the Plan 9 From Outer Space radical racist crowd.)
"Donald Warden had a message, “the time has come to break with white America.” "After the Watts riots, Warden, who would later convert to Islam and take the name Khaled Al-Mansour, released an album titled “Burn, Baby Burn”, celebrating the riots and looting. “The black man cannot take anymore, he is now looking to burn,” he warned. "Warden’s vehicle for spreading his hate was the Afro American Association. And that was where Kamala’s parents met. The ‘Association’ had been created to study “Black Identity.” It banned white people and even non-black ones from joining. With only one exception. Kamala’s mother. "Shyamala Gopalan, who had been raised in a radical leftist family hostile to British colonialism, eagerly latched on to the hate group and the young black Marxist economist she met there." Why would anyone not want to vote? It's the one chance you have every 4 years to either say I want more of this or give a giant middle finger to people you hate.
— Concur. I vote in every election there is. Federal? State local, ballot initiatives, primaries, you name it. And it’s not every 4 years. We have local elections in odd number years, and then we have one offs here and there for bond measures. It takes me literally 10 minutes to vote. My vote may not mean a lot but it’s the one and only time I can actually theoretically have a say in what happens. Why wouldn’t everyone want that? I don’t get people who need to be dragged kicking and screaming to go vote. Posted by: Settled Science at October 24, 2024 10:21 AM My grandfather quit voting in his mid-80s when he could no longer keep up with the candidates and their views. He said, "It's up to the young people now." His father wasn't able to vote until his mid-40s because he wasn't literate and therefore couldn't pass the test to become a US citizen. Fortunately, he was called up for jury duty. The judge made him recite the Oath of Allegiance and signed some papers. I suppose it's illegal for a judge to do that now. Years ago, when voting in SC with the first Missus Krebs, she, who had never voted using the punch card and folder pages of candidates machines, finished voting, folded her punch card, and re-inserted it in the same slot on the machine. "I thought it was the ballot box, too!" she proclaimed by way of offering an excuse. It took the poll workers no small amount of time to get it out, as it was pretty tightly in place. I LOLed, but only after we got back home and I was in a different room from her. Posted by: Krebs v Carnot: Epic Battle of the Cycling Stars (TM) at October 24, 2024 10:29 AM (xG4kz) 343

Had a friend who had an interesting take on voting, and it is worth a thought.
His focus was voting %-tages. Politicians complain about low voter turnouts but secretly they love it. That means Americans are generally too busy living their lives to give much of a damn about what is going on. They are, for the most part, satisfied. But if the total voter turn out gets near 60%, look out. The people are pissed about something and you'd better figure it out. My friend passed away some time ago but I suspect he would look at the last election , and this one, and say it proves his thesis. Posted by: Diogenes at October 24, 2024 10:29 AM (W/lyH) 346

He gets the place cleaned up and back to normal just before the owner returns from work. The owner comes home with the good news that tomorrow is Saturday, and they can spend the whole day together taking walks and playing fetch and whatnot, and the dog is getting more and more depressed. Then the phone rings and the owner finds out he has to go back into work the next day, and the dog is relieved, happy at the prospect of another day of leisure. So, I watched a movie on Plex last night. Ad supported service.
Anyway, at least 60% of the ads were political ads. Out of those 95% were pro-Kamala ads. I didn't listen to them, so I can't talk about the ads themselves, but I just want to imagine the dollar amount that ad placement to me represents. Assume $2 per ad (pure guess, but I'd imagine it's a low guess based on my experience with Amazon ads). I saw maybe 50 pro-Kamala ads, so that'd be about $100 directed to me, a voter who has already voted and wouldn't be open to the message anyway. Now, I live in NC, so there are shit tons of ads everywhere and them wasting $100 on me is not the point. My point is that...NC is not going to be close. Early voting is showing Republicans with leads for the first time in early voting in the state (with a healthy history of early voting)...ever. In 22, when Senator Budd won, he lost the early vote by 5% (it was an 8% registration advantage to D's over R's in the EV ballot totals). NC isn't going to be close. I'm not the only one getting $100 worth of ads blasted in my face in one evening. Trump is almost absent from the airwaves. And...it's not going be close. 345 Had a friend who had an interesting take on voting, and it is worth a thought.
Posted by: Diogenes at October 24, 2024 10:29 AM (W/lyH) I hate to say this but it's the truth: Politicians will never be scared by any voting result. She was unexpectedly blessed with a line-sitter at 2a, so she got a few hours of sleep in her car. The post-truth era has emerged because of several long-cycle trends that affect how we make sense of the world around us. The phenomenon even has a name — agnotology, the study of culturally induced ignorance or doubt. And it comes in a variety of flavors, from the relatively benign (persuading people through ‘spin’ or selective use of facts) to the deliberately malicious (willful peddling of objectively incorrect information). The implications of agnotology, for business and for politics, are huge.

That might be true for some pollsters but others have a long history of being accurate. Rasmussen and Atlas Intel are two solid pollsters who have demonstrated over time their polls are at the very least strong indicators. They have both had this race at Trump +2 - 3 for quite some time and now all of the media polls are converging on their results. If Trump is winning the popular vote by anything greater than 2 this is not a close race. Posted by: Pudinhead at October 24, 2024 *** No; and he seemed a little out of place in a couple of Westerns he did too. He was much more a "city" actor. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at October 24, 2024 11:02 AM (J2vNu) 539

526 >>She says she went to Trump Tower in 1993 with Epstein where Trump allegedly grabbed her b*tt and bre*sts.
Listen to her actual video. She claims they left Epstein's place in NYC to walk down Madison ave. Epstein didn't get his place in NYC from Wexner until 1996. 530 Then...what's the point of the aggregate?
Posted by: TheJamesMadison, finding suspense, madness, and humanity with Michael Powell at October 24, 2024 10:58 AM (GBKbO) Do you not understand how statistical aggregation works? Or bell curves? Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at October 24, 2024 11:00 AM (d9fT1) ======= Your said, "Polling in aggregate might approach statistically significant data. But individual polls should be seen as at best a snapshot, and at worst a baldfaced attempt at voter manipulation." So, statistically significant...but wrong. I understand statistical significance, but if it's based on garbage data, it's significance of garbage. What's the point of it, then? >>2024 is not 2020. It's something else. Does that mean a Trump win? Not necessarily, but 2020 doesn't feel like the right comparison anymore. All that really matters is, do the Donks have control of enough voting apparatuses and can their ballot harvesting and conjuring operations fortify an election victory? If the answer to that is yes, then it really doesn't matter what a poll says. As has been noted, if a winner isn't apparent by mid-night on election night, then the longer it goes on, means the result is more than likely going to be disastrous for The Republic. His strangest role was when he played Lon Chaney Sr. in Man of a Thousand Faces. He made it work, though, despite not looking anything like Chaney.
Posted by: Bulgaroctonus at October 24, 2024 *** Stranger still, Roger Smith played his son Creighton, later Lon Jr., in a couple of scenes. RS you know from TV, and the fact he married Ann-Margret. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at October 24, 2024 11:03 AM (J2vNu) 550

I know a few Bulwark type Republicans. They still live in 2003 where Bush is a good honest moral man and Republicans are the party of honesty and integrity. And if we work together with Democrats we can do good things.
Trump is just too yucky and combative for them. These people do exist. They’re a small minority for sure but they are out there in the real world. Posted by: Settled Science at October 24, 2024 11:08 AM (OTUva) 556
