Actually it doesn't look tethered, but more as if it has floated to its current level because it's filled with helium. Or it floated higher (if this room or tent has a ceiling or top), and has sunk down as the helium filtered out through the balloon skin.

I think that's what paintings like this are for. This one is only about 12 inches square. Kinda small. The black lines are thin, the colors are dull. It's size asks you to come closer. When that happens, you see the other details. The unprimed canvas, the thin lines. You see the tree and that it could be a hot air balloon. By that point, it has you.

I doubt anyone pays more than 50% in income taxes. You’d have to make a fuuuuuuckton of money for that to happen. And live in Cali or NY. And even then you’d be barely above 50%. And once you’re in that territory there’s an army of accountants to make sure you don’t pay taxes.

And that each taxing entity has to send you their estimate by October 31, for the prior fiscal year--no more "you do your taxes, then we check your work."

Concur.
I vote in every election there is. Federal? State local, ballot initiatives, primaries, you name it. And it’s not every 4 years. We have local elections in odd number years, and then we have one offs here and there for bond measures.
It takes me literally 10 minutes to vote. My vote may not mean a lot but it’s the one and only time I can actually theoretically have a say in what happens. Why wouldn’t everyone want that?
I don’t get people who need to be dragged kicking and screaming to go vote.

We got word yesterday that my step-mother has now been diagnosed with Alzheimer's along with the Parkinson's. She didn't take that news too well. But, she's still doing pretty well, all things considered. Her daughter is in town working remote for a couple weeks. That should help, if the daughter doesn't make too many whirlwind changes to her daily life like she has been prone to do.

My grandfather quit voting in his mid-80s when he could no longer keep up with the candidates and their views. He said, "It's up to the young people now."
His father wasn't able to vote until his mid-40s because he wasn't literate and therefore couldn't pass the test to become a US citizen. Fortunately, he was called up for jury duty. The judge made him recite the Oath of Allegiance and signed some papers. I suppose it's illegal for a judge to do that now.

Years ago, when voting in SC with the first Missus Krebs, she, who had never voted using the punch card and folder pages of candidates machines, finished voting, folded her punch card, and re-inserted it in the same slot on the machine.
"I thought it was the ballot box, too!" she proclaimed by way of offering an excuse. It took the poll workers no small amount of time to get it out, as it was pretty tightly in place.
I LOLed, but only after we got back home and I was in a different room from her.

Anyway, at least 60% of the ads were political ads. Out of those 95% were pro-Kamala ads.
I didn't listen to them, so I can't talk about the ads themselves, but I just want to imagine the dollar amount that ad placement to me represents.
Assume $2 per ad (pure guess, but I'd imagine it's a low guess based on my experience with Amazon ads). I saw maybe 50 pro-Kamala ads, so that'd be about $100 directed to me, a voter who has already voted and wouldn't be open to the message anyway.
Now, I live in NC, so there are shit tons of ads everywhere and them wasting $100 on me is not the point. My point is that...NC is not going to be close. Early voting is showing Republicans with leads for the first time in early voting in the state (with a healthy history of early voting)...ever. In 22, when Senator Budd won, he lost the early vote by 5% (it was an 8% registration advantage to D's over R's in the EV ballot totals).
NC isn't going to be close. I'm not the only one getting $100 worth of ads blasted in my face in one evening. Trump is almost absent from the airwaves. And...it's not going be close. TV ads feel like a waste

Trump didn't lose 15 points of support when they switched in someone that was already on the ticket that no one voted for. It never happened.

So, they ended up showing more as a proportion of the rest of the population, in most polls, driving up Kamala's numbers.
Well, it's either that, or polling firms artificially pushed up D numbers because they were trying to sell a narrative.

That might be true for some pollsters but others have a long history of being accurate. Rasmussen and Atlas Intel are two solid pollsters who have demonstrated over time their polls are at the very least strong indicators.
They have both had this race at Trump +2 - 3 for quite some time and now all of the media polls are converging on their results.
If Trump is winning the popular vote by anything greater than 2 this is not a close race.

People need to remember that the cheat in 2020 wasn't just the shutting down of ballot counting in the middle of the night to ballot box stuff.
It was predated by months of mail in ballot fraud, of ballot harvesting, all using inflated voter rolls and relaxed rules.
Now, I can be as skeptical as the next guy that "rules in place" won't matter. However, I can also look at the returns and requests and general early vote numbers and see...Democrats are missing A LOT of voters from 2020. Genuine or not, it's millions that are not appearing.
2024 is not 2020. It's something else. Does that mean a Trump win? Not necessarily, but 2020 doesn't feel like the right comparison anymore.

But 2022 isn't right either. Take PA as an example. The early voting gap between Rs and Ds was bigger than in 2020.

All that really matters is, do the Donks have control of enough voting apparatuses and can their ballot harvesting and conjuring operations fortify an election victory?
If the answer to that is yes, then it really doesn't matter what a poll says.
As has been noted, if a winner isn't apparent by mid-night on election night, then the longer it goes on, means the result is more than likely going to be disastrous for The Republic.
