Weird Al doesn't 'do' feuds. He thought Coolio was ok with the parody and went ahead with it because he tries to contact the artist or at least their management before doing them. Prince is the only one that turned him down.

The parody was based on Coolio's song 'Gansta Paradise,' that Al made into 'Amish Paradise.'

55 Seriously, Coolio and Weird Al were in a feud once?

Weird Al asks the original artists permission for his parody songs (although he isn't legally required to). He wrote Amish Paradise (parody of Coolio's Gangster's Paradise) and asked one of Coolio's agents who gave approval but the agent apparently didn't clear it with Coolio. Coolio was upset when he heard it on the radio (because he didn't give permission/didn't know his agent did, and also because GP meant something personally to him).

68 andycanuck, reading your auto-translated post from former Pres. Bolsonaro last thread, thought I saw a funny mistranslation ("Forro de SP"), which I was sure meant to refer to Folha de Sao Paulo, one of Brazil's oldest newspapers and sort of the equivalent of the Wall Street Journal (at least in the past).

Funny because "forro" (emphasis on the last syllable) is of course the northeast Brazilian close-dancing style. So I guess there's a sarcastic nickname for the Folha de SP now, and Bolsonaro was using it. There might be other meanings for "forro" or other word-plays at work, not sure - been a long time since I spent time there.

98 And "forro" is pronounced "fo-HO". Brazilian Portuguese has some weirdness, initial "r" and double "r" are pronounced as "h". Thus, Rio de Janeiro is "hee-U de zhe-NAY-ru" (oh, unstressed "o" goes to long "u" - another weirdness).

And even earlier, Australia - although Australia, Antarctica, and South America were all parts of a supercontinent at the time (think they call it Gondwana). It’s fun to remember that the possum is more closely related to a kangaroo than it is to anything else in North America.

Man, I could see a great Candid Camera stunt there. Set up an outdoor outlet on the wall of a building, so that EV users would be tempted to plug in with an extension cord and steal power. But have the outlet on a hinge, so a guy inside the building could hinge it in, unplug the cord, and then quickly tug in the whole extension cord, and close the hinge again.

113 Sure, except the melody is ripped from a Stevie Wonder song, IIRC.

from wiki:
"Coolio performed this song live at the 1995 Billboard Music Awards with L.V. and Wonder"
...
"Stevie Wonder received crediting for the composition and lyrics due to the interpolation of his song "Pastime Paradise" from his 1976 album Songs in the Key of Life."
...
"Due to the sampling of Wonder's music, "Gangsta's Paradise" is one of the few Coolio tracks that did not contain any profanity, as Wonder did not appreciate his song being paired with it. Coolio said, "I had a few vulgarities... and he (Wonder) wasn't with that. So I changed it. Once he heard it, he thought it was incredible"

183 Publius, I think the baro was 29.55 the other day here (I’ve an old Gischard altimeter that I am calibrating by boxing it in over time. It is pretty accurate, but should be set in the middle of its range.

What I really need to do is find a measured location precisely at 7,000 feet (halfway in the device measurement range) . Right now it seems to be holding or has a resolution error of approx. + or - 150 feet, which may be as good as it gets.

Oh yeah. So why is 29.22 hurricane and 29.55 just a cloudy day? I never paid too much attention to barometric pressure, just the trend up or down. I figured a hurricane was 27 or 28 or something like that.

At the center when it's going full bore over water, it is. Milton was in the top 5 lowest in the Atlantic side, hitting 897 mbar, or 26.49" Hg.

Those pressures I quoted above are relative, converted to sea level (via the "standard atmosphere" barometric formula, the "altimeter setting"). Absolute pressures ("station pressure" is the official term, I think) was 28.33" low, and 29.62" for that.

The adjustment is 0.88" for this elevation.

If you're getting high up in altitude, pressure gets lower and lower. At 10,000' standard pressure (for a standard atmosphere) is around 20.5".

Above that, it gets well below 20" absolute.

So I want to set the 0 mark to the barometric pressure as indicated by weather service apps, correct? I never understood pressure altitude, though I can understand it might vary from my exact location?

204 >> So I want to set the 0 mark to the barometric pressure as indicated by weather service apps, correct?

Yes. And I don't know nuttin' 'bout the details of altimeter settings, just the general principles. The altimeter gives you altitude by comparing measured pressured to the known sea level pressure.

The airport/NWS sends out the info, and you adjust your altimeter zero to that, as it does vary all the time.

Note pressure is given as "altimeter setting", which is the relative pressure we use. The "sea level pressure" is something else. The altimeter value uses the "standard atmosphere", which is a given sea level temperature and a standard lapse rate, or variation of temperature with altitude.

The sea level pressure, given in mbar and not "Hg, is based on a more sophisticated calculation which uses the actual observed temperature values.

So, "pressure altitude" is the result of the more simple value. It will be close, but not really the actual true height above sea level.

213 Right, the analog altimeter is of course also a barometer.

By a series of adjustments - setting the barometric pressure to a known accurate standard, the needle should correspond to the correct elevation, and vice versa:

Going back and forth the error rate has declined, it is accurate now, within maybe a couple hundred feet. But the error rate tends to be larger at the low and high ends of the scale.

He is choosing the blue-eyed devil that may come from another planet ( I think he changed his mind on that one) but who has put his money where his mouth is and done tangible work to help the black community, over the actual devil who encourages fatherless households and aborting black babies by the literal hundreds of thousands, never mind all the dependence on ( a white) government and all the trans insanity.
