I get not answering questions at a debate. "That question is stupid, and I'm going to use my limited time in front of a large audience and my opponent to address what I think my voters care about." That makes sense.
But interviews? Where you simply walk away from the intent of questions literally every time to just say, "My opponent is a doo-doo head?"
It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense strategically, especially if the point of your campaign is Joy not Testy.

I think the roadblock to returning the hostages is that there are so many splinter groups and individual cells and criminal gangs involved, there is no overall control outside of "we kill you if you piss us off", and the hostages represent a golden ticket or at least a shield greater than any protection either Hamas or his bolas can offer.

Narratives, cheap fodder for political commentary by idjuts that could not explain nor actually conduct a poll, etc. Horse race coverage basically--full of sound and fury meaning very little.
The private polling by candidates is of a different kind and worth the money usually by a candidate and is much, much, more expensive than the media polling crap put out for public consumption.
Those private pollsters rarely if ever release that information (other than the occasion leak of some titillating result at the behest of a candidate) because they use it for subsequent races and candidates in the future.
Spend enough time in a lot of places (areas that have high population turnovers are not conducive to this--like Vegas) but you can glean about as much from public voting patterns in the past aka normal vote and figure out how a particular candidate does better than the normal vote in that district or worse using whatever current data you can fit into your model.

Shtick got old. Firing Line, Cross Fire, etc were entertainment for those who like to follow politics.
Results usually came down to lefty libs were following their emotions and those on the right were applying logic, facts, and experience.
So, you found out that A) lefty libs never learn, B) facts, logic, experience, expressed to a lot of people never affected the rhetorical blathering by the left.
The left on those shows never learned but like a dog returning to its vomit, kept circling back to their talking points.
So, these shows taught you that rational persuasion is impossible when a mindset is leftist which is consistently about 22-25 percent of the population that identifies as such.
