1 First?

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at October 16, 2024 04:04 AM (omVj0)

2 Evening and morning to all on this best of all possible Wednesdays! (Of course, if Trump wins we will have an even finer one on Nov. 6.) My weather has cooled a little, though not to the extent the weather mavens promised: 67 F. right now, with humidity down and a brisk NE wind.

I dreamed something blurry about Steve McGarrett, the Jack Lord original, going undercover into a Hispanic drug dealer's household and making friends with the big guy's little daughter. (No, pervs, not that Tim Walz kind of friends --!) For all I know there was an actual Hawaii Five-O episode like that which I've forgotten.

The cats are well. Howz it witchoo?

North Korea prepares for war? They blow up the roads and rails that used to connect the North and the South. Kim Jong Un has ordered artillery units to move near the border with ‘readiness to engage’. If the US starts a war with Iran WW3 is guaranteed.

13 "This would completely kill manual installation of SSL certificates. Nobody has time for that."

"Certificates as a service."

And those services will become a very juicy target for the forces of darkness, as gaining access to and/or control of those entities will ensure the ability to snoop on, or compromise anyone. The ability to successfully MITM (man in the middle) attack any site that uses a compromised issuer's certificates in order to inject ransomware to multiple targets has to have those evil groups more than a little excited as the possibilities.

I'm gonna have nightmares. Yup. Definitely nightmares.

Normies are generally perplexed when i say i hate Fox news. I explain they're worse than partisan leftist news, because they take the lies and distortions of the partisan leftist news as given and construct a farcical fake "conservative" spin on it, so that if your only source of info is them, you'll find yourself floundering in any argument with a leftist because you don't actually have the truth on your side. It's like buying all your guns from China after declaring war on China.

Posted by: Mister Ghost at October 16, 2024 04:35 AM (TGPs7)

The world is riddled with nascent regional conflicts just waiting for a nudge to boil over into open war.

Once upon a time, it was clear who America would support, that America would be the deciding factor, and that American support would typically go to the party less likely to light the candle on their own, so conflicts tended to remain nascent. Now, America dithers, no one knows who is calling the shots anymore, and the American military is comparatively weak anyway, so that cooling effect is disappearing.

Ironically, the weaker America continues to become, the less likely there will be a World War, but the more likely there will simply be a World At War. More of a battle royale than a MOBA, if that makes sense.

61 I'm going to post something descriptive of my beloved country and I categorically defy anyone to rebut this post.

We live in the most exceptional country on the planet, populated by an extraordinary people, governed, not ruled by a political system unique in history.

It should be further noted that throughout our history we have met and prevailed over issues even more serious than this current one, with an unbroken record of success. We have embraced this struggle of our predecessors to the point it has become our heritage to continue in order to ensure our Republic endures. There is no reason that we shall not remain victorious in this event.

As always, well said. Wish I could write like that.
"Throughout our history" is the key phrase though.
The difference between "then" and now though is that, over the course of my lifetime (last 70 years), trust that the Bible is the inspired by the Holy Spirit, Word of God, has been largely schooled out of most.
"The science" says billions of years and evolution, after all.

That's why I put up links, like @62, and others on astronomy and such. They show you can take God's Word for what it says. Including Genesis 1.
