105 Holbein does remarkable portraits with incredible use of color and detail, especially in the clothing of the model: rich and sumptious materials. But the faces and hands of the subjects are done with such effect, with the natural expressions and realistic skin tones, they stand out from the clothing and background. It is remarkable. I don't know if this is a 'trademark' of his portraits but it certainly seems to be a consistent technique.

Check out examples of his simple sketches, the equivalent of pencil drawings. They are wonderfully expressive even though they lack the color and detail of his finished work.

114 Holbein does remarkable portraits with incredible use of color and detail, especially in the clothing of the model: rich and sumptious materials.

Chain of office as Henry's Lord Chancellor featuring the Tudor rose. Apparently, officially called a livery collar.

Re. the S motif...

Collar of Esses
This famous livery collar, which has never passed out of use, takes many forms, its Esses being sometimes linked together chainwise, and sometimes, in early examples, as the ornamental bosses of a garter-shaped strap-collar. The oldest effigy bearing it is that in Spratton church of Sir John Swynford, who died in 1371. Swynford was a follower of John of Gaunt, and the date of his death easily disposes of the theory that the Esses were devised by Henry IV to stand for his motto or "word" of Soverayne. Many explanations are given of the origin of these letters, but none has as yet been established: for example: Souvent me souvien or "Think of me often."[3] During the reigns of Henry IV,[4] his son (Henry V) and grandson (Henry VI), the collar of Esses was a royal badge of the Lancastrian house and party, the white swan, as in the Dunstable Swan Jewel, usually being its pendant.

Yep, he did Henry VIII and at least one of the wives. Mrs. JTB saw the Henry portrait at Hampton Court. Not a huge painting but very impressive.

Turns out Holbein was more versatile than I knew. The Wiki page shows an example of his woodcuts which are surprisingly expressive despite the 'wooden' (no pun intended) limits. He also designed architectural features like a fire place and mantle using ink and subtle washes of color that is worth a look.

When Brett went hard after her. She didn’t call him names. She didn’t quit the interview. She didn’t make things up. She never once complained the questions were tough. She never played the victim card. She didn’t lose her temper. She didn’t take the bait to diminish or talk down to Trump supporters.
She stood up to him with force and never backed down.
He has been the President and campaigning for 9 years. Kamala Harris has caught up to him in just 100 days . That speaks volumes.
It’s why people want to vote for her. That’s why so many Republicans and Independents are supporting her
She is everything her opponent is not and will never be.

197 188 I don’t think there is any prohibition on Jews letting pigs eat their enemies.

Read a book several years ago where a team was going after terrorists and wrapping the bodies in pigskin.

At the end, the main bad guy was found with a rubber pig mask on his head. When questioned, the one who did the killing said "My butcher was closed yesterday."

Hi.

Sir Thomas More - nice portrait, but would not hang behead.

203 Yep, he did Henry VIII and at least one of the wives.

HH painted Henry, Edward VI as a child (though he only lived to be about sixteen), and Anne of Cleves. His painting of her shows her not to be hideous at all; not hot, no, but rather pleasant-faced.

There's a twitter account, @ProjectVirginia, that supposedly has the ear of Republican officeholders in VA. His blowing up of the story about the DOJ suing the state to keep non-citizens on the voter rolls has apparently led to some efforts from the state to track down who's actually putting non-citizens on the voter rolls in the first place (there's been an apparent uptick of people trying to get themselves off the voter rolls which could be explained a few different ways, of course).

This guy is flexing like VA is going to arrest foreign nationals working elections in VA.

I believe it at about 15%, but it'd be fun if Miyares was holding a press conference in a couple of weeks about how they'd arrested a couple of dozen English citizens for electioneering in VA.

Keep an eye out for them illegally [obviously] voting.

During one of the Bush Jr elections some BBC scrunt, who was born in or lived in the U.S. as a child, openly illegally voted despite not having even dual citizenship or full citizenship claiming her American links and 'the world should be voting for such an important office that affects the world' type justifications. Kamala going onto FoxNews never felt like a sign of strength in general, especially after CBS was caught editing their interview of her to make her sound better.

Walz had an interview on Fox a couple of weeks ago, and it went really poorly, too.

It just feels like her campaign is trying to find ways to win a news cycle with a candidate who has gotten to the point in interviews where she can't answer simple questions. She's constantly defensive and antagonistic to someone who's not even there.

She's weird. Much weirder than Vance.

They should finally come clean and admit they are Democrats. The fraud is over, you guys.

Their problem isn’t Trump. They have an issue with liberty and real traditional values.

369 This appears to be the new Stormy Daniels story:

“The former president’s attorneys allegedly sent Daniels an offer where the amount she owed him over a defamation suit would be lowered if she agreed not to make “defamatory or disparaging statements” about him.”

That is a completely legal offer and pretty standard in contentious cases of this kind.

380 How many billions did Steve Jobs take with him to the afterlife?

It all went to his wife, who's become kind of a shadow Soros in terms of how much of the Left she's funding.

Which is funny given Jobs himself deliberately kept Apple officially non-political and told Obama his policies would destroy the country.
