74 I worked in a locked mental health ward for some time. Much of the art on the walls was very similar to this, although it was usually photographs. Quite a bit of analysis was done on the selection of photos: clear, and in-focus images, herbivores only, no clear eye contact from animals in the photo to the observer, outdoor, open spaces, often guidance for no lakes, ponds or oceans (small stream where the bottom was visible were fine), etc.

With those restrictions, a LOT of the photos were of sunset out west with a few distant horses lol.

82 Not a big fan of Benton's work. Most seems almost cartoonish in its exaggeration even when there is an emotional aspect.

HOWEVER, (clears throat to get peoples' attention) I like this one. The colors really do suggest autumn with the pasture no longer green and the fading reds of the leaves. There is a peaceful feeling as the horses gaze into the distance on the calm day, like the activity of the summer is over and things are winding down for the year. It's not highly profound but it is pleasant.

94 This style, known as American Regionalism, is the most purely American style of all, and its 3 main proponents were Benton, John Steuart Curry, and Grant Wood. Later on Russian communists stole the look and created Soviet art that was somewhat similar, but it was American first.

I admire OMaM tremendously. East of Eden, the novel I mentioned above, is my "desert island" book. Hard to believe that critics, when it was published in 1952, found Cathy, the story's sociopathic villain, to be wildly unbelievable and off-putting.

It's a long book, but very good, and I recommend it.

126 That is why it is utterly critical to Newsom that Harris loses to Trump this year. Gavin Newsom’s presidential ambitions—and they are significant—rest solely on a Harris defeat. Given his naked ambition and historical disdain for Harris, don’t be surprised to see Newsom torpedo his California rival in some below-the-radar manner to save his political future. We don’t call him Governor Hair Gel without reason. He gives new meaning to the definition of the word “slimy.”

Understood, but this painting dates from 1940-41, long after anyone with a brain understood who Stalin was, and long after they appropriated the style.

Wiki: Socialist realism, the official art style of the Soviet Union, began in the early 1930s. The First Congress of Soviet Writers in 1934 formally proclaimed the doctrine, which was defined by the state to promote the goals of communism and socialism.

Of course there is. The problem is, when you encounter said woman, her powers override whatever good sense you have to use that gauge.

Men are divided into categories:

1. Those who have never been taken by one of these women (consider yourselves blessed)
2. Those who have, and are bitter, nasty jerks to every other women they encounter (especially the mostly sane ones)
C. Those who have, think they know better, so they won't get fooled again (and they will get fooled again).

203 184 man, the Daily Mail is pimping for Kamala relentlessly
----

A Peterson Foundation survey of the swing states shows Kamala Harris leading Donald Trump in Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, Arizona and Wisconsin by two points or less.

In Georgia and Pennsylvania, it is a dead heat.

A Reuters poll meanwhile shows the Vice President leading among suburban voters - the households that make up around half the electorate - by 47 percent to 41 percent.

Posted by: Bulgaroctonus

Pictures of dogs often fail the "eye contact" rule, or show the dogs running and active, when they prefer animals being calm in the ward. Plus, there was a "no teeth" rule, where no teeth can be shown, as they are "threatening", which also hurt a lot of dog photos

Seems a bit extreme, but the people are often under an involuntary court ordered hold, so they're pretty crazy, and all sorts of things can set them off.

I'm surprised Fauci didn't think of that.

Which is pretty damned stupid, even for Iran. Cats keep rodents in check, which actually are a threat to public health. Shades of Mao and the sparrow killing.

Nobody using Windows should allow Automatic Updates at all. Manually update, if you must, once the update has been released and is generally accepted as benign.

Had windows 7 I quit updates after the second year. Everytime I updated is screwed something and it would be necessary to do a sys restore (only way I knew to fix it) so I quit. Ran 7 for at least 8 years with no updates. Oh, before that I had XPpro, Not one time did I update it.

Obviously, no techy here But microsoft are crooks, that we know.

Security updates are frequent. If you know how to use apt sources lists you can limit the frequent updates to security ones and handle the others as you see fit.
