Dan went to the vet today for a recheck on his pneumonia. Doc said the X-rays showed his lungs were much clearer and he's well on the mend.

Poor Dan is a huge, handsome boy who is a clingy baby at heart. He did not - repeat, not - want to go with the tech when I dropped him off this morning. His relief at returning home was obvious.

89 So I told my landlord that the toilet dumped water all over the floor this morning, which it did, and that there's a problem with the drains, because they are intermittently backing up (just in the last 24 hours, really).

He texts me and tells me that the drain guy has inspected the toilet and declared that the wax ring looks fine, and that the problem is in the sewer line (... which, duh, but maybe I didn't specify or he didn't catch that the shower drain and the kitchen drain have been making burping noises, and the toilet seal obviously failed anyway so...?), maybe specifically the backflow prevention valve.

The drain guys apparently said it was installed incorrectly, which I don't believe, since it's worked just fine for ... 6 years now? Or maybe he himself messed it up when he snaked the drain a few months back, which I suspect is more likely.

Sewer lines are designed to be non-pressurized.

As soon as you get sewage elevated above any gap or crevice in the system (there are usually many), then sewage is going to sneak out and ruin your day.

In my (non-expert) opinion, you could have had a functional wax ring and still gotten sewage on the bathroom floor. That ring generally only works perfectly when you are dropping a flush straight down a wide open 4" (or 3") sewer pipe.

This is partially true.

Yes for water, but it is relied upon 100% of time to keep sewer gas out of the house. Now sewer gas is usually not a problem if the system vents are proper, but even then a bad seal will cause odor in some windy conditions.

So they really should be a tight seal and if not, you *will* sometimes smell the odor but not see water leaking.

Parc Omega has several cabins where you can sleep with the wolfs or Bears. The Cabin we had they had water at one cabin and the Food at the other cabin in the encloser so the Wolf's would have to walk back and forth in front of the Glass.

Then you can go next door for the Drive Thru Zoo and you feed animals carrots thru your car Window, We plan on going again but the cabins are almost always fully booked.

Have you tried white noise training? It helped me out a lot.

Tinnitus noise masking videos on YouTube. I use Insight Timer and a meditation video on tinnitus which has multiple frequencies to train the brain to ignore the tinnitus.

341 The destroyer escort used in the filming of The Enemy Below was the USS Whitehurst (DE 634). My uncle served on her in the Pacific during WWII. He LOVED that movie.

One of his sea stories - late in the war, two Val type bombers attacked the ship. One Val crashed into the ship while the other one's 500 lb bomb hit her and passed through it without detonating. It blew up off of the bow. The Whitehurst did not sink but was a mess.

You have to visit a DE museum ship to really grasp how small they were.

My family and I slept Saturday night on the USS Cobia, a WWII Gato-class sub. Props to your dad, and all the other sailors that were on those subs. Close quarters for sure.

All these years later, and the smell of diesel and oil and whatnot still permeate the inside of that thing. On the tour I learned that they were allowed to smoke in it, even when underway. For some reason I thought they wouldn't be allowed to.

Got some spectacular view of the comet (A/2023 A3 Tshitshan-Atlas) tonight. Turned out tonight was the brightest for me here (dimmer in absolute brightness as it moves like a bat out of hell vs altitude after sunset and air thickness).

One of my cousins, who is getting damned good at astrophotography got a spectacular shot at 7:54PM EDT tonight. It was good enough to submit to amateur astro sites I told her.

She got the full tail in view, quite long.

For a choice of B&W films, you can't really go wrong by picking one from 1939 - otherwise known as Hollywood's Golden Year. Adventures of Robin Hood (Errol Flynn and Basil Rathbone and Claude Rains and Olivia DeHavilland) came out in 1938, and I'd throw that in there too.

My wife and I watched Casablanca with our then 12 year-old son a few years ago, so see what a Gen-Z would think of it. He thought it was amazing. He had the same opinion of Errol Flynn in Robin Hood. BTW, I think that's the perfect movie. 95 minutes, and not a moment of fluff. Casablanca is another perfect movie.

All his interviews are softball interviews. No tough questions would be asked.

But he's his own guy, and he runs his own show, and he's not going to agree to let the Harris campaign tell him what to say and do. And he insists on long form interviews. No short hits.

So she won't do it. She can't speak extemporaneously for 2-3 hours because she is a cipher.

Since there wasn't much time left and the talking heads were figuring they would go to the sidelines, I wasn't paying much attention. I looked at the TV right before the ball landed and thought it was the kick return, and I was like, why are the defenders jumping for the ball? lol. That was a helluva throw and catch.

Anyways, on Youtube, under 'cat videos for cats to watch' are some beautiful videos of birds, squirrels and chipmunks eating food.

I'm very impressed. Whoever filmed this did a beautiful job. The cats are very entertained.
