Meet The PetMorons

Here is the beautiful stray cat of my apartment complex. Her name is Nimbus due to her white with edging of light to dark gray. The tenants in the other apartments all know her name and have half-adopted her. But she is still a 'wild thing'. Last year when she was a kitten she snuck into the apartment and almost got to the stairs. She likes boiled eggs, shrimp, chicken, beef, pork, always hungry but always pretty. Nobody can tame her, yet she is always near. (She may be 'of the street' but she has not had a litter yet.) Tough to say no sometimes if you know what I mean.

Here’s Fritz (the GSP) and Bertie (the English Setter.) They’ve been my buddies for the last 19 years. They are the bestest of good doggos. Fritz (the source of my nic) was literally the pick of the litter, I chose him out of the whelping box.
Six years ago, on Oct. 13th, Fritz climbed up in my bed as I was reading and laid down next to me at 1:00. At 2:30 I felt his last heartbeat. He lived a good, happy life.
Bertie joined us about six months earlier. Being a pup he didn’t pick up all that much from Fritz, but enough to be an equally great doggo.
All said, I’ve been very dog rich these past 19 years.

1 Wife set up a camera in the front yard to get an idea of what has been chowing down on her plants. So far, it's been one raccoon, one opossum and two deer (mother and baby).

Also came home and got a picture of a vulture on a stump in front of the house. Expected a dead deer or something but didn't see anything.

6 I should put up my camera and see what eats here. I don't think there are dogs now. Jake is sometimes a bit freaked out when I take himout at night.

Everything is good here. Troubles come in for at least a few hours sleep. Creamsickle on the porch napping now.

Thanks. We live in a decent area of MD that is near farms and away from bigger cities. I'll have to submit a picture next week with one of our guest dogs trying to make friends with a feral cat.

10 Well, I guess I miscalculated. Was doing my workout and the gardening thread came and went.

Anyway, saw Derak's reply. I plan to use manure next year and garden soil. Just planting tomatoes, green onions, lettuce, and okra. I'll still use companion plants and see what happens. Might plant more flowers and see if that attracts the good pollinators.

14 We have a sister in law who loves raccoons. They liveout on a dirt road in the outskirts of a city. She gets the day old bread from the bread outlet, and cheap pnb from Aldi, and she makes sandwiches for the raccoons. They line up outside their door and wait for supper, about 6 pm, every day. Now she is also feeding some possum and a skunk.
Did I mention that she is an ovo-lacto vegetarian? Doesn't eat any meat of any sort, believes in animal rights.
She's kind of a nut, but she's our nut. Very kind and loving. And a conservative.

Tons of beautiful pictures as always.

I'm taking care of my friends' cats across the street. These are the ones going on an extended trip next year and I've already claimed Trumpy and Snowflake.

So many cats and kittens. There's already a plan in place to have the older females fixed, already scheduled, and they've been finding homes for the kittens which are very beautiful.

The family has 3 young daughters and they homeschool so the family was fine with the cats having kittens. And there's apparently a lot of people that want the cats. So fantastic.

The cats know I'm feeding them. I go across the street and cats come out from everywhere. I'm a dog person but that's still pretty surreal.

Last Saturday, like every Saturday night I'm taking care of them is 'Tuna Fish Saturday Night.'

That made me very popular among the kittens who didn't really know me.

Trumpy is doing very well indoors. And even Snowflake stayed for well over an hour once this week. The dog Ralphy is fine with them and Trumpy is even going up and rubbing against the dog occasionally.

Very cute considering that's not our cat.

29 There is the funny scifi short story where aliens have communicated with Earth that their battlefleet will be landing so all these generals are all lined up at an airport where the landing is to take place but they wait and wait and no fleet. Meanwhile a large pet Labrador has found the (tiny) fleet in the grass and has eaten it. Always enjoyed that. Better than if they were giants.

30 I used to feed raccoons. It was fun. We'd feed them dog food on the porch. The little ones would get under the porch and reach up to grab the feet of the big ones when they ate.

We lived about a half mile from the transfer station. I learned that raccoons eat rats. We had no problems with rats when there. The people living there after us didn't feed them and had a rat problem when their dogs ran the raccoons off.

38 So, we are moving to the boonies next Friday, and the dogs are gonna love it. Ruby will hate it at first, until she gets the lay of things, but they will both love the yard. I suspect they will avoid the hot tub, as they avoid all tubs.

DH bought me a Ruger 308 for if there are bears or moose in the yard going after the dogs. He loves me, he really loves me!

The backyard is all garden, woodshop, greenhouse, and apple trees. Yay! And plenty of room for doggos to run.

40 Jake killed a baby possum. It kept coming in the front yard. First time he caught it, we got it away from him and it was still alive. Put it in the neighbor's yard but it came back. The third time he caught it, he managed to kill it.

46 Yay. Didn't sleep through the pet thread!

Some mighty fine looking pets today.

Two doggie tales to relate.

Last two morning walks, Daisy the overly energetic Malinois has managed to get into some burr bushes somewhere on our path. Little tiny burrs, but sharp as needles, difficult and painful to pluck off. First time was all over her vest and collar and in her ears. Second time, mercifully, was far less, on her back end and (ugh!) in her tail. Don't know which area she got them from, but I'd apply chemical warfare if I knew.

Last several nights, Daisy has jumped up on her bed, barked madly at the bedroom window, run to the front door (out which I can see nothing) and furiously barked, then out the back door to the fenced yard to bark and howl some more. And she is loud!! Last night she had a barking fit reprise just after we were in bed. It was mercifully brief. Our mighty defender against shadows and bumps in the night.

Ony the elderly black cat isn't showing her age. Demanding at feeding times, jumps up on the bed at night, and still lets Daisy know who's boss. Lets me know when the litter box needs service. Likes lap time, which is whenever I sit down.

It's home.

I have read that, and also read that turkeys eat ticks.

I have lots of possums and turkeys at our farm. In the spring, I can sometimes look at the top of 100 tall stems and observe 95 ticks.

I must have GenZ possums and turkeys ... they ain't doing their jobs!

That cat looks much like my Stirling -- not long-haired, but with a thick plushy medium coat.

Nimbus reminds me of two cats I've known. In looks she is much like Linda's Angelique, the probable Siberian who came up to me in a parking lot and jumped into my car, and when we got no answer to our "found cat" ad, became Linda's. In personality Nimbus is something like a bushy-tailed black cat who hung around L.'s door for something like two years. You couldn't get near her (him?), but she was eager for handouts. She'd wait until you went back inside and closed the screen door, then hurry down and eat.

55 And in other feline news, little Dagny La Siberienne slept with me this afternoon. She wasn't there when I started my nap, but was up against my back when I woke up. After two years, she still surprises me when she displays what in another cat would be mild affection. For her, sleeping next to me is wild gushing.

56 When Luna and I were out for our walk this morning the neighbor's dog came hurtling out of their yard. Scared me at first but I know he's friendly--just a little too exuberant. He followed us home and insisted on going into the back yard with us. THEN he discovered the lap pool and one of Luna's discarded beef rib bones.

His mom finally came and claimed him, but I predict next time he gets out he'll be making a beeline for our house.

57 Re: my story about the bushy-tailed black cat in No. 50: We suspected that she could be a feral descendant of Wolf, my big long-haired black cat. His "humans" used to let him roam outside before they abandoned him (and I adopted and altered him). We wondered if he'd spread some of his genes among the feral cats here. There seemed to be a lot of fluff-tailed ferals roaming around, more than you might expect.

64 I saw a story about an 80 year old woman that was swept up in the flood. Her little dog drowned. She said she was pushed out to the middle and decided to swim. She said "I can swim and I swam out to the bank". She was rescued. They did find her dog's body. It was buried at her house and she said she is never leaving.

Madison and Minnifer have a set time but they eat when I feed them, so it works out for me. Since I don’t have a set time to eat.

77 I have kibble out for the cats all the time. I usually put some wet food outin the morning. Troubles comes in at times to eat. I've been giving Creamsickle the canned cat food the two cats won't eat.

Jake gets canned food after we get back from the lake. Then he gets a Greenie. From there, he moves to begging every time we come in. He and Fanny get a few freeze dried minnows at bedtime. This has led Jake to try and convince me to go to bed at 7:30.
