  • Eric Adams' phone pleads the Fifth. (The Verge)

The FBI obtained two of the New York mayor's phones under a warrant served almost a year ago, but they still haven't managed to access any data.

Adams changed the password after the warrant was served - to prevent staff from deleting information that was required for the investigation, he says - and then promptly forgot it.

  • The Amelia Watson Hyte Y40 PC limited edition PC case is winging its way toward me as we speak. Or as I write and you read. Or trucking its way.

The shipment of Calliope Mori Hyte Y40 limited edition PC cases to Australia disappeared into the Nether, so I broke down and finally ordered it directly from the US, exorbitant shipping and all.

The site took my money and then promptly crashed, because of course it did.

"Flashback: The pandemic sparked a stressful global chip shortage. Demand for computers boomed, making it difficult to keep products — like iPads and game consoles — on shelves, and car dealership lots stocked.

"But long-term mine closures or export delays in Spruce Pine would be a supply problem, a much graver issue for the economy to stomach."

Isn't the situation described in the Flashback paragraph ALSO a supply problem?

And we could not ask for a finer Daughter in Law.

They were able to drive from Virginia Beach to Nashville with no road impact from this damn hurricane, although they joined up to RT-40 just a few miles west of where all the major closures are.

Mrs VIA told me last night that she had heard that some parts of RT-40 in tha area will be closed for a year due to the massive damage done to the road in that area.

29 The house did well when the hurricane came through last Thursday with only a five hour power outage, and the door being pulled open on the screened porch, with sheet metal screws from the door closer bracket being torn out of the frame of the porch.

Gonna put it back together with rivet-nuts as soon as the riv-nut mandrel gets here next week.

That should give it more strength to prevent another pull-out in a storm.

I don't suppose that they are that thoughtful. They are just evil, selfish, miserable people using tragedy to score political points against their brothers and sisters, who they disagree with ideologically.

They would use man made tragedy such as school shootings just the same, mocking your beliefs, while dancing in the blood of innocents.

103 For sure, Comrade. Ain't nothing but the grace of God that can illumine such darkness. And when he does...oh, the magnificence of the thing!

They can mock, mock, mock away. Don't make no never-mind. You can see their false bravado in the face of their utter futility.

Poor dears.

115 Captain Obvious

In Asimov's autobiography, he comes across as a liberal jerk. No wonder he only wanted to work for himself.

Heinlein was also a jerk in his biography, but in different ways.

In fact, few famous writers do well in their biographies. Nicholas Monsarrat, looking at you.

We have a volunteer at the thrift store, who doesn't get to be with us much, b/c she and her husband also volunteer with Samaritan's Purse. They cook for the crews and she always has wonderful stories to tell when they return from wherever.

Congrats to you all, VIA. May they have a long and blessed life together.

Repaired. So, we've had the roof fixed, new fencing put in on the front and side, fiber internet installed, streaming TV service instead of satellite and electrical work done on the transfer panel, plus some rewiring inside, a new thermostat installed upstairs and a new fan put in Her Majesty's bathroom. Waiting on the last little bit of drywall repair and painting, which was waiting on the rewiring.

136 We were on vacation north of the quartz mine at Beech Mountain. We walked out Monday morning, leaving the car behind. The road to the property was washed out by a small stream that became a raging river for 2 days. We hitched a ride into Boone with a good Samaritan, took a Uber to Charlotte and caught Southwest home to New Orleans. I ordered Starlink yesterday vowing never again to be communication and information deprived when an option exist. I may even buy a portable solar energy package to support it, still thinking about it.
We have lived theough many hurricanes on the gulf coast but the damage in the mountains is going to be much more difficult to recover from. The dense forest and rock slides add a level of difficulty that we don't experience.
Say prayers for the people there and contribute to the local charities there if you are able.
