Free range kids, a thing of the past in the USA.

FREE-RANGE KIDS

Kids Should Be Blindfolded and Dropped in the Woods at Night
In the Netherlands, kids grow up with more independence than in the United States.

Blindfolded kids, driven off in a car, and dumped into the woods at night. In America, we call that a crime. In the Netherlands? It's called a "dropping," and it's a beloved childhood tradition.

"It's a rite of passage," says Mark Pols, an investor living in Silicon Valley who grew up in Holland.

BEL AIR, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A Bel Air mansion that's on sale for more than $21 million has become the latest high-end property in Southern California to be covered in graffiti.

The mansion's pink exterior, as well has the inside, has been defaced by taggers.

It is currently on the market for $21.5 million. The realtor for the property told Eyewitness News the house has been on and off the market for three years, and that most potential buyers want to tear it down or re-do it.

I have no words except. Genius Award Winners.

An Arkansas couple was arrested after allegedly attempting to sell their two-month-old baby to a man at a campground for $1,000 and a six-pack of beer.

Darien Urban, 21, and Shalene Ehlers, 20, face felony charges of endangering the welfare of a minor and attempting to accept compensation for relinquishment of a minor.

The Benton County Sheriff's Office said it received a call on Sept. 21 from the manager of the Hide Away Campground reporting that the couple "tried to give up the baby for a 6-pack of beer and then wanted $1,000 for the baby," according to an affidavit, WREG reported.

49 One of the most bizarre things in the campaign happened over the weekend.

Tim Walz went to Michigan for the Michigan - Minnesota football game, and rooted for Michigan.

After all, Michigan is a swing state, and Minnesota is not, so why not root for Michigan?

Huh? Does Walz or his handlers know anything about sports fans?

Michigan fans would have respected Walz rooting for Minnesota - after all, he's the Governor and lives there.

Rooting for Michigan just demonstrates the truth that Walz is a political whore who will say or do absolutely anything to get elected.

59 The Biden admin has been terrified that a wider regional war would start if Israel didn’t back off. Here’s a tweet today from an Israeli that shows Israel’s opinion on that today:

An illuminating post I just read, about action over the last 24 hours:

“In one day, Israel has struck Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, and Gaza. All effortlessly, all with success, and all without losses to our boys in the cockpits. When will Iran realize they can't beat us?”

The war is on.

"thou" was the familiar or informal "you", much like "tu" in French and Spanish.

This was one of the scandalous elements of the King James Bible, in that God was referred to in such familiar terms.
I will have to look up what the plural second person was in Old English, Middle and modern was such a mix, with enough urbanization in the "metropole" of London that the differentiation between the formal and informal address were dropped.

where first person nominative, dative and genetive in modern English are I, Me and mine, and you, you and yours, in Old English there is a singular, a dual and a Plural form, git inc and Incer, and Ge (ye) eow and Eower (your)

The Orwell comment I quoted (about the Buddhist priest) was something he wrote when he was a colonial police Sub-District Supervisor in Burma.

He was an Etonian, but couldn't qualify for a scholarship which would've enabled him to go on to university. Orwell's father had been an opium administration official (4th Class) in India & didn't have much money.

209 Evening.

I'm having a gout attack in my left foot. It seems to be getting progressively worse. Can barely sleep. Fuck my life.

In other news, it seems Israel has attacked the Houthis in Yemen. Israel has apparently said, "Fuck it all and fucking no regrets."

A half-assed observation.

Part of America being Israel's guarantor of security has meant we've kept them on a leash, for example only allowing them to respond proportionally when attacked. In a way this has meant we've kind of acted as the guarantor of the security of their enemies, too. Keeping the most powerful country in the region on a leash has meant the safety of their neighbors. Now with the Biden Administration alternately asleep at the wheel or hostile to Israel combined with the uncertainty of American elections Israel has decided to take off the leash. They are striking their enemies as hard and as fast as they can expecting either an eventual return yo the status quo (Trump) or another four years of leftist anti-Israel hostility (Harris). They are going to beat their enemies so hard and so furiously it will take them years to recover and regroup.

I bet the Iranians are pissing themselves about now.

234 I believe that charming Dutch folkway of dropping your kids off in the forest at night is where we got Hansel and Gretel.

Dad would, once every winter, force my brothers and I (and him) to stay out all night in the snow with nothing but a wool blanket, something similar to a K-Bar and some matches. He taught us how to build a small but very hot fire at the base of a tree, smother it properly with dirt and then squat over it covered with the blanket for the night. It wasn't fun but we were reasonably warm. After that, huge breakfast.

He always said the same thing after the ordeal: "You'd better learn to respect Mother Nature because she doesn't give a shit about you."

I miss that crazy old man. He was a great man.

In the first days of blitzkrieg, some fortress defenders in Belgium and Holland perished of "gunpowder poisoning," the exclusion of breathable air by artillery warheads -- not the concussion.

Tonight’s Israeli Airstrike on the Lebanese Capital of Beirut is quite Unusual. Unlike previous Strikes that we have seen on the City, this one was not on the Southern Suburbs but instead on a Neighborhood near the Downtown Commercial District; in addition, the Targets of the Strike were not Members of Hezbollah, Hamas, or the PIJ, but instead Three Commanders with the Military Wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a Group which has not had much involvement in the ongoing War. I have a feeling that since the Campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon is going so well, this Strike was likely “Payback” by Israel for Actions committed by these PFLP Commanders in the 90s and 2000s. We also have not yet received any kind of Statement or even a claim of Responsibility by Israel for the Strike.

342 A half-assed observation.

If anyone took me up on my "mnw lock" this week (Chiefs -7), they didn't win but they didn't lose, either. Chiefs won by 7, so it was a push-- as if no bets had been placed. Both sides keep their money.

420 AOP is correct that thou/thee was the second person singular and you/ye was the second person plural. That is how it is used in the KJV. How thou/thee became the familiar and you/ye the formal has to do with the king referring to himself as we, since he was speaking for all England. 435 Donald Trump is the Abraham Lincoln of our times. The Democrats of today still have the DNA of the Democrats of old: not recognizing a properly elected President (cf. 1860, 2000, and this November), keeping the black man down, be it literal slavery, or the slavery of gubmint dependence, and starting a civil war because, like the godless commies they have morphed into, their Chosen Puppet was defeated.

My sad prediction is that the Democrats will not suffer a Trump win.

Sure you have those that like to drive faster than most, but kamikazes drive like they are trying to kill themselves and that they don't care who they take with them.
For example, the speed limit is 75 and you are doing 85, but the kamikaze goes by at 100 or more nearly striking you or others who dare to obstruct them.
I almost got taken out by one while moving things from my deceased mother's home yesterday.

518 Had a laugh tonight. There was this hard lump at the foot-end of our mattress for.. I dunno how long.. long time. Anyway, hubby & I figured an inner spring was at fault but since it's at the bottom-- meh. Deal with it.

Had to strip the bed and wash everything today, including the mattress protector. There's one of those "egg crate" foam toppers between mattress & protector... and when we peeled back the protector, that foam topper stuck a bit and peeled back at the corner.

Lo and behold! We found the "lump"

The judge was right about the phone/camera but not about the shorts. Got a problem with that then post a dress code outside your courtroom. I say the lady should sue as the obvious action would have been to expel her from the court. Arresting is too much unless she makes that for the photo only.

558 Strange dreams just now about my former work: Apparently they had given me a very nice two-room apartment with bath right near the office. The front room was gigantic and I was hosting an office party there, and it was very early in the morning and I needed to go work out. (As I do in reality now.) Weird stuff.

As for the Killer Kittenz From Outer Space, both are well. This week Dagny the little aloof Siberian spent more time either sitting on the couch right next to me, or sleeping with me, than she has in weeks. And Stirling the great black occupied my lap at least four times yesterday alone. I must be popular.

Many of the stories that came out after Katrina that the media did their best to handwave away, ignore, or debunk? True. While waiting for jury duty in 2010, I spoke with a former cop who affirmed that the tale of gang members *shooting at rescue helicopters* was true, for example.

I hope that Asheville is more civilized and that the natives have less of the "Gubmint gotta take care of us!" attitude that this town evinces. The MS Gulf Coast got ignored in all the handwringing about Gnawluns; it had worse devastation, proportionally speaking; and yet they set to work and got things back to normal fairly quickly. As NO did in 1965 after Betsy.
