So if you are stuck with a Cassandra database and it is causing you pain, ScyllaDB might be the way out.
Disclaimer: No, there is no CharybdisDB. I checked. Cassandra was a prophet, cursed never to be believed. Scylla (and Charybdis) were monsters. There may be no CharybdisDB, but you have to give the company's founders points for using "Scylla" at all. The current simple English phrase for a difficult dilemma is "between a rock and a hard place," but once it was "between Scylla and Charybdis" for people with something above a fourth-grade education. My own story about Texas A & M: During Katrina Miss LInda, the cats, and I bugged out to College Station, where that college was located. I got an education in how the media slants stuff. The next hurricane, Rita, threatened the area, and the college bookstore prepared by putting up plywood sheets *inside* the large plate glass windows at the front of the store. The "news" people made fun: "Look how silly the people in Texas are, putting boards inside the glass!"
I spoke to the manager of the store. She said, "We couldn't fasten plywood to the outside of the windows because the frames are metal and too narrow. Better and cheaper to put the wood inside and have to replace glass, than to do without and maybe have all the books and furniture ruined by wind and rain." Posted by: fd at September 29, 2024 *** Oh, he lost his temper now and then. There are lots of moments when he shouts in anger or exasperation at someone -- "What fools these mortals be!" HGWT's best episodes were not those written by Gene Roddenberry; those are good at best. Harry Julian Fink, now, if you saw his name on the credits you were in for a solid story with a memorable character at its center. He would later create "Dirty Harry" with his wife; and he wrote the Wayne Western I mentioned above, with Wayne's son being kidnapped by Boone's character. And HGWT had good genes. It had been created by Sam Rolfe, who would later "develop" (i.e., build from scratch) The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Posted by: fd at September 29, 2024 *** True. In his elegant life at the Hotel Carlton in San Francisco, his home base, he rarely lacked for lady friends. And out in the field, most women he dealt with admired him as well. June Lockhart played a lady doctor in two episodes with which he had a real connection; but their lives were too different, they realized. Maybe, a decade or so later, when he retired from his knight-for-hire ways, he looked her up, and they spent their last years together. . . . It's pretty cool-ish outside for this dump at this time of year: 73 F. with a heat index of the same. It'll heat up later, but right now, if I just had a porch to sit on while drinking my coffee . . .
After coffee, a short pipe, and some breakfast, I now feel close to human again. @52 It's hard to believe that it dropped 83 bombs. Each one of them is probably a full or half load-out on one plane.
If they used their version of the Strike Eagle, the bomb load is quite large, somewhere over 5 tons. They could have done the raid with 20 or so planes, but that would have been most of their fleet. True. In his elegant life at the Hotel Carlton in San Francisco, his home base, he rarely lacked for lady friends. And out in the field, most women he dealt with admired him as well. June Lockhart played a lady doctor in two episodes with which he had a real connection; but their lives were too different, they realized. Maybe, a decade or so later, when he retired from his knight-for-hire ways, he looked her up, and they spent their last years together. . . .

At a very small venue, somewhere between 1,500 to 2,000 seats.
Prairie du Chien's population is roughly 5500. Posted by: grammie winger - cheesehead at September 29, 2024 08:38 AM (SfhV1) 172
Pure Hibiscus tea. Ruby red color and wonderful tartness. Great iced or hot.

Having been born in the mid-70s, I never got to see a lot of these older movies and TV shows.
But now, thanks to streaming and cheap content, I can see a lot of the stuff I missed. Which is perfect timing since everything woke has ruined everything modern I’ve been looking at classic entertainment with more and more affection. For instance, having just watched the 1955 film “Smoke Signal” I suddenly realized that old woman from Twin Peaks named Piper Laurie was an absolute redheaded smoke-show in her youth. I had no idea she was that gorgeous! See? Woke can have some benefits. Posted by: SpeakingOf at September 29, 2024 08:45 AM (6ydKt) 178

Trump is making his appeal to rural voters by going to Prairie du Chien and similar places, places the Harris campaign has contempt for. If you’re going to talk to American voters outside major cities , you have to smaller venues.

Watching Leftist Paul Greenglass's Jason Bourne movie last night about CIA collusion with Big Tech and wondering if Greenglass now hates Elon Musk's guts like every other leftist for liberating twitter from the Censorship Industrial Complex (exactly what his social media hero in the movie was trying to do).

stupid question: if a hacker grabs ISP data off a server, could he trace them back to individual households?

@187/Fen: Assuming the ISP keeps track of which IP address is assigned to which specific device the ISP gives you to connect to their network, and that ID is mapped to a customer account, and the hacker also has the customer database with phone numbers and addresses, then yes.
Further to this though: If you've been approached by someone claiming to have gotten this information and demanding money from you in any way, ignore it (except to report it to law enforcement.) Either it's a scammer trying to scare you into thinking they have something on you (and they don't) or it's someone who actually hacked an ISP and got the info they say they have. Either way, paying these bastards any money only encourages them to do more of that. Don't. Report the mail to law enforcement and let them deal with them, and then ignore/block any further contact from the scammer or criminal. Change your passwords in conjunction with that ISP as well. Maybe call their customer support and ask for a keyword to be added to your account that you must say to them before any changes can be ordered. Celestial Seasonings was one of the first woke companies, so bad that even Rolling Stone noticed. They were anxious that visitors would see their employees playing volleyball on their lunch break. A reporter lolled about, until a disgruntlee, between gritted teeth, let on "The volleyball is mandatory." They've been on my Tea Shit List for decades.

I would really, really like to find a mini computer with 4 2.5GB ethernet ports that actually has product support that's worth a damn (i.e., BIOS updates). I have an old NUC I could use but then I'd need 3 USB NICs hanging off of it which would be lame.

And I'm ok, I'm not being scammed. I'm asking because when I was falsely accused of stolen valor by Sarah Hoyt, I couldn't get her to look at my DD2124 to prove my innocence, so I went to Insty thinking they would help a Marine, instead they kicked me when i was down, ie "no one cares, F off and die, go kill yourself". About 20 of them. Everyone else just looked the other way I'm coming into an inheritance, going to hire some hackers. I done trying to save the Republic for these people. Going to drive around the country next 10 years, track these guys down and beat the fck out of them. Meh.Fresh air, the country, a bit of exercise, it'll be good for me. I know I'm not right in the head, but it's all good. Really looking forward to seeikng their expressions heh Posted by: Fen at October 01, 2024 01:25 AM (2SIWo) 197
