What is going on in the WordPress war, from a former WP Engine employee. (Josh Collinsworth)

Matt Mullenweg is a co-founder of WordPress, and now heads up both WordPress.org, the open-source foundation that creates the WordPress application, and WordPress.com, the company that commercialises blog hosting.

WP Engine is a competitor that also offers blog hosting, and has done for nearly fifteen years. This is entirely legal because WordPress is open source.

So Matt, fed up with a competitor existing at all, has used his position as head of the open-source project to benefit his position as head of the commercial operation by carpet-bombing that competitor:
Matt had a problem with the landlords, so he carpet bombed the neighborhood. He didn't like Alderaan's leaders, and so he fired the Death Star. And now it doesn't really matter what his original point was; he's made himself the bad guy.
And I do mean carpet-bombing:
That post, crucially, went up on WordPress.org, which on its own seems questionable. WordPress.org is ostensibly the website for the nonprofit foundation; it's supposed to exist to prevent any one for-profit company from having too much power over the WordPress ecosystem. It's supposed to be agnostic.
Not only was that boundary ignored, but since the post was published as WordPress news, it was then syndicated to each and every WordPress admin dashboard in the world.
Now, the WordPress software is garbage - not as much as it used to be, but still terrible - but until recently they weren't notably a garbage organisation.

Now they've fixed that, and there are growing calls for Mullenweg to be tossed overboard before he sinks the ship.

The end result is that PCIe 5.0 SSDs can end up running as PCIe 1.0 - one sixteenth the speed.

Curiously this does not affect PCIe 4.0 SSDs at all; they work just fine at PCIe 4.0 speed.

This is not good.

But it should be clarified that this is not the password database. It's a logging database used by Facebook engineers that should not have been receiving passwords at all.

My current Asus laptop isn't perfect. The screen is amazing, it has one DIMM slot so I could upgrade it to 40GB, and it basically keeps trucking along. But when I'm doing a big code build it really starts to grind.

It was cheap and gets the job done, but I wouldn't mind something even better.

Luna Lake is not that.

It has a maximum of 32GB of RAM - soldered directly to the CPU, with no possibility of upgrades.

But worse, it is not really any faster or more efficient than my existing laptop, which uses an AMD Ryzen 7730U, which in turn is a renamed Ryzen 5800U, which came out nearly four years ago.

Intel is only really competing with itself here.

The only one really missing there is Fairgame$, Sony's contribution as a multi-billion-dollar corporation to the anarcho-communist "eat the rich" genre.

It does work, and the security issues these days are mostly with the plugins due to the terrible design, rather than WordPress itself due to terrible code.

But I had reason to set it up recently and to do anything but the most basic installation you are expected to modify the code. The PHP code.

You have the immigration illegal illegal everyone talking about Virginia is getting a ton of that. But in Virginia, you get an American from other states that just keep pouring in. By the nature of my work, I already knew that a significant percentage of upstate New York has moved here. Also, a bunch of I know they’re exactly subtle.

They had the Dallas Cowboys New York Giants game on Buffalo wild wings last night. There were probably people cheering on the Giants.

One of our local union-shops has a 8-day rotation: 2 (12hr) days/2 (12hr) nights/4 days off. The first "day off" is likely spent sleeping off the previous night shift.

59 We use WordPress at my institution, but it's mostly for students, faculty, and staff who need a website for university-related websites that are not tied to the core institution websites. Research centers, student organizations, design teams, etc.

The core campus websites use TerminalFour. It's OK and has a few nice features once you get used to the quirks of the interface.

Going to McConnells Mill State Park today. Haven't been there in decades. I'm sure my fat, out of shape, middle aged, physique will be fine on those steep, narrow, rocky, paths. No problem at all. Before that, I'm going to a gun show. A friend of mine is working it. Probably won't buy anything. I live in NoVA and buying a gun in PA, having them ship it to a NoVA gun shop to pick it up seems tedious, but I can look! My sister is in the market for a boom stick (AR-15).

I consciously use WordPress once a month near its end (tomorrow, actually) to run a brief app briefly that barfs out the log of purchases made and monies received by our lapidary society. I guess that there are others in the society who use it more, but "not my problem".

Raining here now. Occurs today here in Wilmington the marriage of a second niece this month. This time it she is from my wife's family.

The bride to be was in our care when she took her first steps. I, myself, bring 29 now, was 2 at the time and extremely precocious, having a drivers license, car, advanced degree and a well paying job. "Krebs, you're a marvel!" was a phrase that I heard quite often in those days.

Amazon offers an arrangement where you print out a QR code and take the object in its packaging to any Whole Foods. The plastic shipping bag isn't intact, but I had to cut it open to get to the item. With luck there will be no trouble.

Then we might visit that Italian bakery again for some gelato and coffee. All of these are within a few minutes' drive of each other.

The pupuseria thing was about Eastern NC, a culture II used to know. Maybe I am a jerk maybe I am a relic, but I think Eastern North Carolina and the Shenandoah valley of Virginia have a particular culture that a lot of people found appealing. I don’t want those cultures to disappear for no good reason.

This point the northern Virginia I knew in the 1980s and on is gone. There’s no debate to be had because I know for a fact, the culture I grew up with there does not exist.

Now I see people from failed areas of the north moving into rural areas in Virginia, North Carolina, etc. and I wonder to myself, Why can’t they live where they grew up? Why can’t they live where their culture is from? Maybe I am in the wrong. You ask anyone from France or Italy or Greece if someone immigrates there they should take on the culture of that place. I get it. No problems. Just you know, Western PA has/had it's own distinct little culture that is being swallowed up. At some point, I will flee Babylon DC. Not sure where I'll wind up but I do want to get out of that town. I'm currently visiting family in Western PA. It's nice, quiet, rural. Its surrounded by Amish farms. I would hate to see that go. A lot of it has. Very blue Pittsburgh and Allegheny County has pushed lots of people out to the surrounding counties. That causes some unwelcome changes. The Harrisburg bunch hates this part of the state.

Italian, Chinese Mexican and I think Indian. The point he was making is there are only a handful of world cuisines where people from other countries go out of their way to pay money to eat those cuisines. Mexican is one of those. I personally have had at least attempts at Mexican and Tex-Mex in the UK and France. But you can go to Mexican restaurants in Japan, Australia, India, etc.

No one goes out for Canadian food. And to be honest, very few people go out for German food. So yes, I do think Mexican cuisine is one of the top five or 10 or whatever great world cuisines. And unlike the pretentious liberal snobs, who say they only like “real Mexican” Tex-Mex is also an amazing cuisine I would never go without. I like good Cal-Mex too.

Currently, politics is my hobby because it's strangely less chaotic than my life.

There's a write-in campaign for local elections because all the primary winners were new to the area, narrowly won, and have no platform. One seems oddly supportive of planned parenthood's picks for judges.

I know the judges because a "nonpartisan" PAC sent me a flyer with PP's glowing endorsements on top. The pro-life men (boo hiss) judges were at the bottom. Now I know their names. Thanks, PP!!

Oh, there were plenty of German settlers. There's a town way outside the big city called Des Allemands, which literally means "the Germans." And my father's ancestors were German, and came here to be stairmakers and other skilled trades.

245 Italian cooking doesn't count as it is what I grew up with so I and my taste buds are biased. Of the others, Indian is #1 by far (I like really hot food), than Chinese (the meat dishes). French is in the same league as Italian so I don't rate it as foreign, specially since my Dad was from Turin, lots of French influence and different dishes to Rome. I do not eat Mexican if I have a choice. However the only Mexican restaurant food I've had has not been from the South so it may bear little relation to what some willl say is real Mexican. My biggest gripe is too much tomato and I'm a tomato lover.

I recently was referring to those getting an abortion... and I couldn't use the term 'Mom' because maybe they didn't already have kids, and if they didn't have kids already, then post abortion they certainly couldn't be call Mom.

So I used some gender unspecific word and got thanked by none other then 'dylan mulvaney' in the comments for my sensitivity.

Mack managed the Philadelphia Athletics for the club's first 50 seasons of play, starting in 1901, before retiring at age 87 following the 1950 season, and was at least part-owner from 1901 to 1954.

Yup, eventually a stadium was built with his name, now sadly gone. To see a baseball hit over the top of the right field wall was amazing.

304 On most recent weekends Encore Westerns has taken to broadcasting the “Lone Star” production company’s John Wayne westerns. I assume because A) they’re either very cheap to license or free in the public domain and B) everybody loves a young John Wayne.

And man is he young and skinny as a rail.
It’s a big contrast compared to watching him in say, El Dorado, where the little horse he rode in that was almost as big as Wayne.

The plots are barebones and the acting stiff, but still entertaining in a quaint way.

“Randy Rides Alone” on now, with “The Trail Beyond”, where Wayne goes to Canada to fight off French-Canadian outlaw kidnappers, up next at 9 a.m. EDT.

That's a matter of scale. Large customers require large volume and there are very few chip producing companies that can produce to meet that level of demand. Intel's one of them.

Intel's main problem seems to be flaws in the design process which leads to quality problems in the final products. When these problems result in hardware and software instability and inaccurate results, the customers expect Intel to address and fix these issues, and we've seen a repeated cycle of this lately.

They can overcome this, maybe.

Oh, and the United States Government is still buying from Boeing. Again, scale sometimes trumps a certain amount of quality issues because you've got no other good option for what you need.
