The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“I was like, I will not be judged, to live in America, be an American, be a proud American, say I love America and want to make America great again. I won’t be judged for it. In fact, instead of quieting down, I’m gonna get louder,” Danica Patrick

Quote II

“As Vice President, there wasn’t a single thing that I did that she couldn’t do and so I was able to delegate her responsibility on everything from foreign policy to domestic policy,” Joe Biden

Man killed in shooting after dispute over jukebox song at Fort Lauderdale restaurant

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) - A man is dead after a dispute over a jukebox song turned violent at a Mexican restaurant in Fort Lauderdale early Monday, witnesses said.

The argument reportedly began around 1:30 a.m. at Antojitos Mexicanos restaurant near Davie Boulevard and State Road 7 when one man insulted another over his song choice on the music machine, according to Mauro Bonilla, who spoke with a witness.

Instead of concentrating their energy with the LGBTQIA2S+ crowd to make the abnormal normal. The Navy continues to embarrass itself.

Compounding the problem is the fact that the Big Horn is the only oiler the Navy has in the Middle East. One shipowner told gCaptain that the Navy is scrambling to find a commercial oil tanker to take its place and deliver jet fuel to the USS Abraham Lincoln.

If the Navy resorts to using a commercial oil tanker as a temporary replacement, it would need to install a Consolidated Cargo Handling and Fueling (CONSOL) system for underway replenishment operations. This system includes specialized refueling rigs, tensioned fueling hoses, and high-capacity fuel pumps—all essential for safely transferring fuel to warships at sea. The tanker would also require robust communication and control systems to ensure precise coordination during refueling maneuvers. (H/T Roger Ball)

P*ssies!! I mean, I get it - but if we closed down our streets or neighborhood because bears are close, we'd never be allowed back. My next door neighbor had a bear on his deck a few days ago.

Oddly enough, they (the bears) seem pretty docile - even with their cubs nearby. But we all know that can change in an instant.

I do not avoid the company of momma bears - but I do deny them my essence.

79 Interesting fact Miklos - if he's around tonight - might find funny. The Big Horn is a Kaiser class oiler. Named for Henry J Kaiser the industrialist and maker of the Kaiser automobile.

Ernie Kovacs was on a old What's My Line? episode and during the mystery guest round, Kaiser was the guest. When it was Ernie's turn, it had been established that the guest had a car named after him, and Ernie asked, "By any chance, is your name Abraham Lincoln?"

80 Good God, could Mayor Adams be caught up in the p-diddy net? One year ago he gave a key to NYC to diddy. US Attorney Damian Williams, who brought up charges against diddy, will be giving a press conference tomorrow.

Stick a pin in him. NY should have went with Maya Wiley. Hope she primaries him.

I Kept Thinking at the Time, "They gave up Maya Wiley for THIS guy?"

the next in line is the Public Advocate, who is currently Jumaane Williams. That will make much of the Democratic base happy

amazing how fast the feds move when a Democrat is involved! Especially a black democrat.

The bigger picture is - Democrats prosecute our own, not just Republicans. If you are a crook, it matters not whether you have a (R) or (D) after your name.

Exactly. The Rule of Law is supreme. Partisanship has nothing to do with good governance. Corruption must be revealed regardless of the party affiliation of the corrupt official.

It's the only way to have a good functioning government.

There was the story of the British red coat who had Washington in his sights at some battle but did not fire as it wasn't sporting or something. On such small actions does the panorama of History unfold. Where would our Country be without Washington, if we ever would have been a Country in the first place? 335 Washington's size made him an obvious target on the battlefield, especially riding on a horse. There was the story of the British red coat who had Washington in his sights at some battle but did not fire as it wasn't sporting or something. On such small actions does the panorama of History unfold. Where would our Country be without Washington, if we ever would have been a Country in the first place? And the effect of Washington being killed would have had on subsequent world history without a United States to kick around.

I do believe that was Major Patrick Ferguson, inventor of the breech loading Ferguson rifle. He developed the rife, mounted a regiment, and then went to the Colonies where they didn't do as good a job as they might have

By the way, I suspect if Washington had died, Arnold would have been a decent replacement, though he was not as good at getting his troops out of the pickles he put them in as Washington was.

435 Texas Storms I knew and loved.

Tropical Storm Allison. Tropical Storm Bertha. Tropical Storm Fay. Tropical Storm Bill. HURRICANE Claudette. Tropical Storm Grace.

Every storm above this sentence, I rode out while aboard the Sloop New Dawn. All storms which follow, were those that I experienced while ashore. Storms that were "near misses", such as hit Beaumont, but not Galveston, are not included in these mentions.

HURRICANE Rita. I decamped the Sloop New Dawn for that one, opting to accept a invite/request, from a family in Dayton, TX, who had zero storm experience. Ironically, the storm largely missed Galveston, and rang up a bullseye on... Dayton, TX. I did accomplish my purpose though. Those folks needed a TON of help, which I did as well as possible with the scant few tools on hand.

Having became a landlubber in 2006, then, HURRICANE Dolly. Tropical Storm Edouard. HURRICANE IKE. Tropical Storm Bill. Tropical Storm Patricia. HURRICANE Harvey. Tropical Storm Imelda. Tropical Storm Beta. HURRICANE Nicholas. HURRICANE Beryl.

480 Yo, Osprey!

Getting sleepy here at Peon Manor. Hot, windy, day. Still in high 60's this evening. Stars are bright, and Milky Way can be seen.

"Hate speech" laws are the very definition of violating the 1st Amendment. I hate speech laws because they only go one way. But mostly I hate hate speech laws because I'm allowed to express hatred. Fuck 'em if they can't take a joke.

Strip the orchestral soundtrack out of the Harris version, and overlay the Donna Sommers vocals over the instrumentals.

Quality, would ensue.

Interestingly.... what would be the two best, two worst, recordings of that piece?

Musically and Orchestrally, it can be AWESOME. Even though the lyric is a hot mess of a wet cake, the Sommers version is still MPH challenging on long dark road on a hot desert night.

493 I prefer the Harris version over the extended Donna Summer version, which I think ran for 17 minutes and she ran out of things to sing about by the 11 minute mark and started sounding like Kamala: McArthur Park is a park and people go to the park, and the park is where people go to, the park, a holistic cake was a baking and baking was a cake and icing on the cake, and cake had icing, he he he.

495 I love when Weird Al and Donna Summer teamed up on Bad Girls...

Donna Summer, was of course, from Somerville, Massachusetts, which was formerly known as Slummerville.
But now it's been nicely gentrified, though there's hope with an influx of illegal aliens, it will return to its former glory...

496 Weezer hasn't had a decent song since Living In Beverly Hills.

Pinkerton was their last really good album. They have been competent at times since then, but not what they were on the first two. There's a theory that bassist Matt Sharp who departed after Pinkerton was the reason. It's not like Sharp.was a genius himself but his contributions and modifications of Cuomo's ideas was what made it special. A parallel would be David Sancious, who worked with Springsteen on "Wild, Innocent and the E Street Shuffle" and the Born To Run track and then left. Neither did anything of note on their own, but neither Weezer or Bruce ever sounded that special again.

And so it begins. The Bitch Helene is now shoveling a river of moisture up our way in a line from about Tallahassee NE right up through here and on up in NC. Mike Hammer is going get hammered.

Raining now about 0.1"/hr average, and that will increase tomorrow. Raining for the next 36 hours.

Look at the big picture radar on the whole US. You'll see that "river" forming, and it's going all the way up to PA.

There's some other "features" of the atmosphere, something to the west and something to the east over the Atlantic that are helping train all that moisture flow, and all shoot Helene on that track very fast.

I'll give three of them high praise. A couple of neighborhood boys 19 and 21 are both trustworthy and work hard, one is in HVAC and the other in construction. Their older sister, just graduated from nursing school.
Credit where credit is due, they were home schooled. Their mother ripped out all the video game hardware when they were about 12-13 and threw it in the trash. She told them to get outside and don't come back until you stink!
A great mom, tough when she needed to be!
