Thomas Moran's vision of the Western landscape was critical to the creation of Yellowstone National Park. In 1871 Dr. Ferdinand Hayden, director of the United States Geological Survey, invited Moran, at the request of American financier Jay Cooke, to join Hayden and his expedition team into the unknown Yellowstone region. Hayden was just about to embark on his arduous journey when he received a letter from Cooke presenting Moran as "an artist of Philadelphia of rare genius". Funded by Cooke (the director of the Northern Pacific Railroad), and Scribner's Monthly, a new illustrated magazine, Moran agreed to join the survey team of the Hayden Geological Survey of 1871 in their exploration of the Yellowstone region. That it does. Flavor-wise, it's fine. Nothing special (though that same quality makes it pretty flexible in preparation). Physically, though, it's easy to work with. Firm and, as you said, holds together well. You can do a lot with monkfish and it's comparatively hard to screw up, which is a big plus.

I don't like oysters. That's a good thing because they make me sick. My ex sister in law hid them in some dish with other very strong and delicious flavors. The dish was great. Being up all night puking was not. I asked her about it and she laughed and said you didn't even know they were there! I said, not when I ate it but that puking thing was a hint later. She felt bad for not warning me. She thought I just hated the flavor and texture.

This is, sadly, a real phenomenon. I know a guy who hates poultry, especially chicken. He got tired of people getting downright angry and mean about it, so he says he has a poultry allergy and can't eat chicken.
I have no idea why this happens, but it does happen. If you dislike something that is a staple or a generally-accepted delicacy, it can raise a lot of ire for some reason. Easier to lie about it and say you're allergic.

Eating Maryland style steamed crabs is not really about getting full, it's more of a social event. Think of it like a tailgating event. It's as much about the experience of being together as it is about enjoying what you're eating. Having lived in central MD my whole life, I can remember many a crab feast and the memories of those times are priceless.

Not the hammering and whatnot, but the sucking of the meat from the legs and the butter dripping off of their fingers and chins is beyond the pale.
Hogs at the trough have better table manners.
The catching and consuming of crabs used to be a big deal with my in-laws. Now that the paterfamilias has passed on that tradition has pretty much faded away, although the eldest BiL undoubtably continues the practice, albeit at a lower level.

I grew up eating crabs which were cheap, almost given away, by the lobstermen. Making a mess was part of the deal. However, I only eat them at home, not in public, because I am THOROUGH at not losing any of the meat. It's also handy to have a place to wash my face and beard afterward.

Heh...when we were coming back from Alaska, the RMBS Mom finally got her Dungeness crab for dinner. She's an absolute pro at neatly dismantling crustaceans. Some older woman from another table came up to her as we were getting ready to leave and said "I don't know how you do it...I have crab bits up to my elbows and I feel like I need a shower. For some people, getting messy is part of the experience. I don't get it. I endeavor to remain tidy while eating. I once went out for wings with a coworker and for him, hot wings were like a full-body experience. Wore his napkin as a bib, rolled up his sleeves, and went whole-hog on the wings, messy from fingertip to forearm and nose to neck. It was kind of fascinating to see. I'd dined with him before - and did since - and he was tidy and proper in all things except hot wings. The appalling table manners and practices were limited to that *one* thing, as near as I can tell.
I wonder if it's similar for people who aren't like this woman, who get messy accidentally though inexperience with the techniques of eating complicated foods.

As a Midwestern kid, visiting my dad's family in Maryland and having a giant outdoor steamed crab event was odd. It's tasty, but a ton of work, slow and tedious. Tailgating seems like a good analogy, but it's off...probably because your fingers and face don't get as gross? Tailgating, people sit in comfy chairs, get up and play bags, while crab eating is just....crab eating, with occasional chatter.
May as well do the rural Midwestern thing of a family style potluck, followed by casual cards games like whist and pitch.

I cut my ground beef into slabs and grill them in olive oil, seasoning with paprika and chili powder and turning them to brown each side. After a few minutes of that, I'll cut the slabs in half and brown the newly exposed faces too. When I serve them in tacos or on tortillas, they aren't rare, but they aren't well-done either. Add some cheese and a bit of garlic pepper, and it makes for a nice dinner. (You can toast the tortillas in the oven a little bit and melt the cheese right on them.)

I have kept to doing at least 1 lesson per language (German, French, and Italian) everyday since I bought the year of Babbel.
German just...doesn't make sense. Maybe it will later when it's less learn phrases by rote to get a grounding and more "let's conjugate the shit out of some verbs" territory.
French, Babbel doesn't like how I pronounce things. It's hard to form, but my high school knowledge is providing me with a solid grounding for the vocab and grammar.
Italian, I went from learning the intricacies of how to form "of" with different nouns and listening to numbers which I struggled with to doing verb tenses I already knew (past and present progressive). I suddenly was blowing through entire lessons without errors. Felt good.

Hard disagree. Ribeye is the king of all cuts, in my opinion. I prefer it to the "better" cuts like filet mignon. But sirloin is my #2 cut, and I prefer it to any number of "better" cuts, like the NY strip. Unless it's cap-off, anyway. Cap-off sirloin doesn't have enough fat.

Biden and the Dems want the fighting to stop, and everything to go back to how it was right before the Hamas attacks, and have been very vocal about it. Bibi understands Biden is weak, is tired of the non-stop terror attacks inflicted by Hamas and Hezbollah, and is aggressively "finishing the family business" while the US is paralyzed with a hostile vegetable as president.
This makes Biden and the Dems look incredibly weak and toothless on the national and international stage, and continues to divide their party, as they have radical anti-semite youth and minority voters, and older voters that are sympathetic towards Israel.

I have this device for cooking fish over an open wood fire that is fish shaped. It keeps the fish, hamburger, steak whatever off the grates. I can also sneak a slice of bacon over the fish or burger for extra flavor, without worrying about it falling into the fire.

We ate at Trattoria Mario in Florence. Highly recommend it if you ever get the chance.
