He initially let them stay in his garage while they fixed their car, but they now refuse to leave three months later. "I just want this nightmare to end. I've been homeless the last few days," Toma told WSAZ 3. The reported squatters were Toma's friends Amy Davis and her boyfriend, Tyler Sencuk. But the duo is said to have quickly taken advantage of Toma's kindness in letting them stay at his home.It gets worse. I get that tenants have to have legal protection for their rights, but absent a lease or other legal agreement, this shouldn't fall under tenant protection laws. Good News, But Why? The Mystery of the Massive Decline in Drug Overdose Deaths There's something strange and wonderful happening on the mean streets of America. Drug overdose deaths are down by as much as 30% in some states. And no one can put their finger on a specific reason. It's probably a combination of factors that are contributing to the massive drop in ODs. The wide availability of naloxone, a life-saving medication that can reverse the effects of an overdose of opioids, including heroin, fentanyl, and prescription opioid medications, is cited as one big reason for the drop in overdose deaths. Naloxone was approved for over-the-counter sale in March 2023. But the drop in the number of overdose deaths predates the FDA's approval. The crackdown on mid-level dealers and the war on fentanyl manufacturers may also have contributed to the decline, although many in the law enforcement community doubt that the current efforts at interdiction have played a major role. Whatever the reasons, the decline in the number of overdose deaths is unprecedented. Some addiction experts think we may have turned the corner on the OD crisis. That's weird. I wonder what caused it? Conspiracy Theory Is the wife of Trump's attempted assassin a CIA asset? What’s that? His wife! We hadn’t heard of this person before. She’s been completely scrubbed from corporate media. How is it that corporate media has failed not only to interview this person but even to mention her? Pasting lots of pieces together, Routh apparently has recently remarried, to a woman named Kathleen Shaffer. In addition to the CBP report, Shaffer’s name pops up in a few key places. She evidently helped edit Routh’s book, and she ran a small GoFundMe for his Ukrainian adventures. Social media citizen journalists connected Shaffer to the LinkedIn page to a same-named person who fit her profile and lives in Hawaii. If it’s her, Kathleen works for a giant, international, publicly traded company you never heard of called Maximus. According to its LinkedIn profile, Maximus Corporation —just wait, you can’t make this stuff up— is headquartered at 1600 Tysons Blvd, McLean, Virginia. Just six miles to the Northwest of Maximus HQ lies Langley, Virginia, where the United States Central Intelligence Agency is located:There's more, if you're interested. Racism As A Career How did Robin DiAngelo get away with it for so long? To see how debased ‘progressives’ have become, behold Robin DiAngelo stumping up 30 bucks in ‘reparations’ to an African-American gent. It happens in Matt Walsh’s new film, Am I Racist?, a Borat-style mockumentary that sends up race grifters. Walsh interviews DiAngelo while disguised as a self-hating hipster cracker: ponytail, cheap specs, lame blazer. He brings on his producer, Ben, a man of ethnic-minority heritage. He offers Ben cash, as a small gesture of white regret for the ‘400 years of oppression’ Ben’s people have experienced in America. He invites Ms DiAngelo to do likewise. She’s reluctant, but she does it – she skulks over to her purse, fishes out 30 dollars, and hands it to the black man. ‘That’s all the cash I have’, she says, in pained tones.Has anyone seen Am I Racist?. It looks lie it might be worth a watch. Neocon Corner Why Won’t We Let Ukraine Win? When Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Putin believed that Kyiv would fall within days and all of Ukraine would soon follow. What’s more, U.S. intelligence agencies agreed. It’s been more than two and a half years and Russia controls roughly 20 percent of Ukraine’s territory—the same percentage it had seized a month into the war. Russian advances have slowed to a grinding pace. Meanwhile, its Black Sea fleet has been largely forced out of its illegal occupation of Crimea and pushed back to its home base by a combination of long-range missiles and ingeniously designed Ukrainian sea drones. (Ukrainian tech entrepreneurs have since moved on to revolutionizing air and land drones as well.) And, most humiliating, in August, Ukraine launched a surprise border incursion into the Russian region called Kursk, where it now holds roughly 500 square miles of Russian territory and hundreds of Russian prisoners of war. The operation in Kursk served several key purposes. It diverted some Russian fighters from Ukrainian territory. The seized Russian land could conceivably be used as a bargaining chip to bring Putin to a negotiation. But notably, it’s the most spectacular refutation so far of the false and widely held idea that Russia can’t really lose this war.I take a back seat to nobody in condemning how feckless our current leadership is, but maybe there's a teeny, tiny worry about how Russia would react to actually losing? Another Opinion Negotiate with Moscow to end the Ukraine war and prevent nuclear devastation The New York Times reported Thursday that the Biden administration is considering allowing Ukraine to use NATO-provided long-range precision weapons against targets deep inside Russia. Such a decision would put the world at greater risk of nuclear conflagration than at any time since the Cuban missile crisis. At a time when American leaders should be focused on finding a diplomatic off-ramp to a war that should never have been allowed to take place, the Biden-Harris administration is instead pursuing a policy that Russia says it will interpret as an act of war. In the words of Vladimir Putin, long-range strikes in Russia “will mean that NATO countries — the United States and European countries — are at war with Russia.”And the beat goes on. It was new, super addictive form of another drug, it spread like a prairie fire, death and crime rates spiked for years, and the users eventually OD'd and murdered each other until the customer base shrank enough to turn the numbers around.

on the overdose decline, where are they getting their data from?
Overdose would be a report from Law Enforcement, and the Biden admin changed law enforcement reporting from mandatory to voluntary a couple years ago, with most Major Cities (LA, San Fran, New York) no longer reporting to the Fed Database... leading many to talk about a decrease in crime, even though not true. If they are getting overdose data from the same data set... there is no decrease in overdoses, just a decrease in reporting. Posted by: Romeo13 at September 19, 2024 10:20 PM (xaFKb) 82

Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia) at September 19, 2024 10:14 PM (ynpvh) that would be the War of the Triple Alliance, where Francisco Solano Lopez, in trying to bring Paraguay to the level of Luis Napoleon III's France, tried to go to the aid of his allies in Uruguay who he claimed were victims of a corrupt coup, by cutting across Argentina without permission, and got into a war against Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay, and proved the one things Paraguayans are not good at is surrender. Solano Lopez was killed in the last battle among the remnants of his army, and his wife was forced to dig his grave where he fell. Oddly, the Brazilians now like Paraguayans and dislike Argentinians, and the Paraguayans are still pissed about the whole thing, and also don't like Bolivians much either, but that is a later war. Werner briefly appears here to correct a couple of assertions made in the previous thread. For the record, I am not Lenneal, grocery employee/Jason Bourne hobbyist. What that guy's deal was mystifies me. It was also claimed that I am a troll. My understanding of trolling is that it done with malice and with the intent of annoying and angering other commentators. I like this website, and have great respect and fondness for those who comment here, and if that makes one a troll, then virtually all here would be regarded as such. This, of course, would be an absurdity.
A quick googling of Paul F. Tompkin's Werner Herzog impression opens the door for understanding what I do here. My persona here is in the spirit of Dadaist/Absurdist humor. That I am tiresome and repetitive? That is a matter of individual opinion and is something I try to avoid. But if the consensus here is hostie, then shall Werner depart. Funny, I've been hearing about Russian troops being encircled, HQ overrun, ammo dump blowd up, and only a small number of towns in Kursk reclaimed.
As for the front in Ukraine, the gains are steady, but not big unlike the Russian casualties. Posted by: Erebus- ex-Killer Whale at September 19, 2024 10:51 PM (elaR+) The Ukrainians did achieve tactical surprise in the beginning, but the only area of significance they've taken was the town of Sudzha. Their attack against Glushkovo and Korenevo have been pushed back in recent days and they haven't taken any new territory. Not exactly what you call a massive success. Meanwhile, the Russians are moving towards Siversk and Kurikhivka along the main line of contact. The fact that they're still pushing forward with their main offensive indicates that the Kursk attack has failed. The narrative of massive Russian casualties is overblown. They're not sending human wave attacks, they're sending missile, ground support and tube artillery wave attacks, building up salients in which to crossfire the Ukrainians into oblivion, and then moving in to mop up. *Raises hand* I don't have all the numbers but do have an idea. The number of those with a drug abuse problem in the US is estimated to be quite large, at ~48 million, but the number of hardcore addicts, those addicted to drugs powerful enough to kill if overdosed (I would guess), would be comparatively small, a finite pool generally confined within a particular age range, say 20-40. Junkies who stay junkies don't live very long. Anyway, like any other disease epidemic, there comes a point at which those likely to die do die, at which point the fatality rate drops off. Do you think the cop dogs are "good" - the way some used to go on and on about how they took an oath and such - they way the "back the blue" crowd drones on ? I won't argue with you because it seems you have made up your mind who is right and your source is the only valid one. Werner, what was the most difficult problem you encountered while filming "Aguirre: The Wrath Of God"?
Posted by: Gref Ach, it might be easier to ask what was not a problem. Spiders large enough that they should have had to pay rent, so many poison arrow frogs that one lost count, and the hitherto unknown but powerful Anaconda Union. Ja, it was new to Werner as well, but one does not cross them, believe me. Getting someone to extract the dreaded Candiru fish from Kinski's...appendage, That one still inspires nightmares. The biggest challenge, however, was getting the indigenous tribe to refrain from turning Klaus into an arrow-infested pincushion. They were Method actors, and demanded to be allowed to approach their roles thusly. I had to fight my own strong compulsion to tell them to go for it (if you have worked with Kinski, you will understand this.) After much soul-searching, I finally told them that if anyone was going to snuff Klaus, it would be Werner. Of course, his later death had nothing to do with me, and I can produce well-compensated witnesses to attest to that. Did Werner say well-compensated? I meant by the liberating emotion of stating the truth. Ja. Posted by: Werner Herzog Has Opinions at September 19, 2024 11:30 PM (tmPIh) 358

I've been thinking about the relative costs of heating versus cooling in the RV world, funny someone pointed out heating versus cooling.
Can warm the RV unit with very little energy cost esp. if using propane, and a catalytic style heater. Camco makes a good unit. Maybe $1 a day or at around 10 deg. F. A barbecue tank would last a few weeks. Lots of different ways to stay warm, too, other than that. Cooling, well that needs AC juice. Figure on quadruple the cost, maybe $8 a day when hot and humid. 2 gallons of gasoline, say. Posted by: Common Tater at September 20, 2024 12:03 AM (NCNv4) 390

I think the question is whether or not those dead drug abusers are being replaced by new drug abusers. Maybe it's like a monetary bubble but for junkies. Expansion and contraction. The whole renaming of teams woke thing was another prime example of their inherent stupidity. Sports owners make their money by convincing people to develop loyalty to the team they own. They aren't going to pick a name with the intention that people will hate that name or symbol or mascot. You don't see teams named "Nazis" or "Terrorists" or "Pedos" do you? People who are impressed by this apparently know nothing about the Battle of the Bulge. "...It’s been more than two and a half years and Russia controls roughly 20 percent of Ukraine’s territory—the same percentage it had seized a month into the war. Russian advances have slowed to a grinding pace. ..." Author apparently doesn't understand that this means that Russia's goal was, in part, to liberate that 20% of the country, which has mostly ethnic Russians, who were being attacked by the Ukrainian govt, and who voted overwhelmingly to be annexed by Russia. This has to go down as one of the most precisely-targeted ops in history. Identify the bad guys: Hezbollah. Induce them to spend their money on comms devices that offer greater security. Let the bad guys' network distribute the devices to the minions, and the henchmen. Blow up the comms devices with a coded signal. The only people who should have been in possession of the devices are the individuals targeted. If Achmed gave his pager to his 8-year old daughter to play with, her death is on him.
I have people in my house currently using opioids for pain, from surgery or broken bodies. My doctor reminded me to go to the pharmacy and pick up some Naloxone, you can get it for free. And then its on hand just in case something goes wonky with their meds. I don't know which drug company/govmint program is subsidizing it so it's free from any pharmacy, but bless them in this one case. (Also, I suspect people susceptible to overdosing on drugs were put through the wringer during the pandemic, especially 2020. And a lot of them have left us. I think my opinion on the drug overdose thing probably overlaps with other commenters here, and I'm late to the party. But there is a point at which potential customers can see the damage it caused to people before them, and they stay away.
But it's still too many and it's still sad. I've had a few friends die of fentanyl overdoses. Yes, they made poor choices, and ended up reaping the consequences of those choices. It's still there, and all the physiological effects of the pain continue to mess with you, you just don't realize its still there. Opiods, they kill pain, which is why they are so addictive. They also help your body heal through your recovery. Of course pot these days with THC levels being what they are have become much more dangerous, with questions about addiction and psychosis being raised, and research continues to suggest - especially for young male adults - that the old slang name for pot - dope - has some truth to it. Pot is not this generations alcohol. It is much more dangerous than that, and the quick legalization has been pretty stupid. Posted by: Black JEM at September 20, 2024 09:22 AM (GZYu7) 465
