Judge Orders Homeowner to Leave House After Fight With 'Squatters'
In Louisville, Kentucky, Daniel Toma told local station WSAZ 3 that he's been kicked out of his own home after a group of "squatters" overstayed their welcome. He initially let them stay in his garage while they fixed their car, but they now refuse to leave three months later. "I just want this nightmare to end. I've been homeless the last few days," Toma told WSAZ 3. The reported squatters were Toma's friends Amy Davis and her boyfriend, Tyler Sencuk. But the duo is said to have quickly taken advantage of Toma's kindness in letting them stay at his home.It gets worse. I get that tenants have to have legal protection for their rights, but absent a lease or other legal agreement, this shouldn't fall under tenant protection laws.

The Mystery of the Massive Decline in Drug Overdose Deaths
There's something strange and wonderful happening on the mean streets of America. Drug overdose deaths are down by as much as 30% in some states. And no one can put their finger on a specific reason. It's probably a combination of factors that are contributing to the massive drop in ODs. The wide availability of naloxone, a life-saving medication that can reverse the effects of an overdose of opioids, including heroin, fentanyl, and prescription opioid medications, is cited as one big reason for the drop in overdose deaths. Naloxone was approved for over-the-counter sale in March 2023. But the drop in the number of overdose deaths predates the FDA's approval. The crackdown on mid-level dealers and the war on fentanyl manufacturers may also have contributed to the decline, although many in the law enforcement community doubt that the current efforts at interdiction have played a major role. Whatever the reasons, the decline in the number of overdose deaths is unprecedented. Some addiction experts think we may have turned the corner on the OD crisis.That's weird. I wonder what caused it?

Actually, Trump's proposal for Ukraine sounds quite reasonable: 1) a Korean-style armistice along the current front lines; 2) Ukraine does not join NATO; and 3) Ukraine gets sufficient arms to defend itself.

Overdose would be a report from Law Enforcement, and the Biden admin changed law enforcement reporting from mandatory to voluntary a couple years ago, with most Major Cities (LA, San Fran, New York) no longer reporting to the Fed Database... leading many to talk about a decrease in crime, even though not true.
If they are getting overdose data from the same data set... there is no decrease in overdoses, just a decrease in reporting.

As for the front in Ukraine, the gains are steady, but not big unlike the Russian casualties.

The Kursk incursion was clever - a surprise attack that overwhelmed poorly-trained conscripts (who aren't used in Ukraine), and did humiliate Putin and raise Ukrainian morale.

The Ukrainians did achieve tactical surprise in the beginning, but the only area of significance they've taken was the town of Sudzha. Their attack against Glushkovo and Korenevo have been pushed back in recent days and they haven't taken any new territory. Not exactly what you call a massive success.
Meanwhile, the Russians are moving towards Siversk and Kurikhivka along the main line of contact. The fact that they're still pushing forward with their main offensive indicates that the Kursk attack has failed.
The narrative of massive Russian casualties is overblown. They're not sending human wave attacks, they're sending missile, ground support and tube artillery wave attacks, building up salients in which to crossfire the Ukrainians into oblivion, and then moving in to mop up.

I don't have all the numbers but do have an idea. The number of those with a drug abuse problem in the US is estimated to be quite large, at ~48 million, but the number of hardcore addicts, those addicted to drugs powerful enough to kill if overdosed (I would guess), would be comparatively small, a finite pool generally confined within a particular age range, say 20-40. Junkies who stay junkies don't live very long.
Anyway, like any other disease epidemic, there comes a point at which those likely to die do die, at which point the fatality rate drops off. Since this high-risk mortality effect is generational and cyclical, it will surge again.

Sort of sounds like maybe the pagers were rigged for a short time delay between receiving the arming message, and the explosion. Give the users a few seconds to retrieve the pager from its carry place, and bring it to eye level to read the screen. Which would also reduce the chance of the pagers exploding at "child level", perhaps.

Can warm the RV unit with very little energy cost esp. if using propane, and a catalytic style heater. Camco makes a good unit. Maybe $1 a day or at around 10 deg. F. A barbecue tank would last a few weeks. Lots of different ways to stay warm, too, other than that.
Cooling, well that needs AC juice. Figure on quadruple the cost, maybe $8 a day when hot and humid. 2 gallons of gasoline, say.

I have people in my house currently using opioids for pain, from surgery or broken bodies. My doctor reminded me to go to the pharmacy and pick up some Naloxone, you can get it for free. And then its on hand just in case something goes wonky with their meds.
I don't know which drug company/govmint program is subsidizing it so it's free from any pharmacy, but bless them in this one case.
(Also, I suspect people susceptible to overdosing on drugs were put through the wringer during the pandemic, especially 2020. And a lot of them have left us. Would be interesting to track ODs's from 2018-2024 and look at how the graph changes.)

The problem with pot is that it doesn't kill pain. It's still there, and all the physiological effects of the pain continue to mess with you, you just don't realize its still there. Opiods, they kill pain, which is why they are so addictive. They also help your body heal through your recovery.
Of course pot these days with THC levels being what they are have become much more dangerous, with questions about addiction and psychosis being raised, and research continues to suggest - especially for young male adults - that the old slang name for pot - dope - has some truth to it.
Pot is not this generations alcohol. It is much more dangerous than that, and the quick legalization has been pretty stupid.
