As the saying goes, fools and their money are soon parted. I imagine that those check/cheque frauds are going to cost prison time and monetary fines as well.

I hadn't heard about the "glitch" business before the hoax got exploded. But then I don't use Tacky Tick. And I figure by the time I tried such a thing, even if it were real, the bank would have fixed any problems.

There's an incipient storm in the Gulf, and it's predicted to head NE -- in fact it's been tracking a little more to the east while they've been watching it. Which means a possibility of tons of rain for yours truly. I suppose I'd better gas up the car this morning and grab a few more canned goods at the store tonight. I'm not worried about flooding here, only the loss of power.

Good morning all.
It's actually chilly out this morning, beautifully clear with bright stars (the moon was lovely last night, too). I scored an issue missing from my collection of Taproot magazine on eBay yesterday evening. I knew if I kept the search up long enough, one would eventually appear. I was actually working on a card index of the collection, to remember just where was that shawl pattern, tea recipe, etc. yesterday afternoon. Synchronicity! "People haven't gotten dumber, it's just that technology allows them to do more dumb things faster."
Eldest daughter and I were explaining this to one of the grandkids (not that they'd do these things). In the before times, if you took an embarrassing pic of a friend, you had to go the One-Hour Photo and get it developed and printed before showing it to everybody. By hand. Not a couple of clicks. I'll post Stirling's evergreen observation:
"I'll believe in people settling Mars at about the same time I see people settling the Gobi Desert. The Gobi Desert is about a thousand times as hospitable as Mars and five hundred times cheaper and easier to reach. Nobody ever writes "Gobi Desert Opera" because, well, it's just kind of plonkingly obvious that there's no good reason to go there and live. It's ugly, it's inhospitable and there's no way to make it pay. Mars is just the same, really. We just romanticize it because it's so hard to reach." Minor quibble, AMD is still releasing their fastest and most expensive card first; they're just only targeting the mainstream, because they don't have the feature set to make competing at the high end make sense.
As I understand it they're probably going to be able to offer 4070 Super to 4080 performance for a $550-600 price point from a monolithic chip that uses half the silicone of the 7900XTX Given the 5090 is going to cost anywhere between $1600 to $2500, and the 4080 is enough to roflstomp most games, a 8800 XT at a $500-600 price range should do pretty well.
