Ah yes...I am Woman...Hear Me Roar! Except it simply does not make any sense with a cast consisting of only women. 1777 America had a social structure that makes a woman playing the lead absolutely nonsensical. Flipping the story on its head may be satisfying for the director and his desire to subvert the dominant paradigm, but the wit of George Bernard Shaw was heavily dependent on the interplay between men and women. Socially, sexually, legally. It's as if traditional society recognized the differences between the sexes and embedded them deeply. Who knew! here's someone who knew...
In the matter of reforming things, as distinct from deforming them, there is one plain and simple principle; a principle which will probably be called a paradox. There exists in such a case a certain institution or law; let us say, for the sake of simplicity, a fence or gate erected across a road. The more modern type of reformer goes gaily up to it and says, “I don’t see the use of this; let us clear it away.” To which the more intelligent type of reformer will do well to answer: “If you don’t see the use of it, I certainly won’t let you clear it away. Go away and think. Then, when you can come back and tell me that you do see the use of it, I may allow you to destroy it.
There is a very good reason to respect the original play or book or movie. They are reflections of the times in which they were created, and when done well, are a glimpse into the human condition that is common throughout our history. Changing that condition is impossible, no matter how many gender-bending or culture-twisting contortions are inserted. Our literary traditions expose the universal truths of human (really...Western) culture, and the differences between the sexes are structural, and cannot be changed without bringing down the entire edifice. Which is their goal.

It's just so boring.
There's a reason anyone paying attention can predict this so easily. "We're announcing a new show based on X" and is immediately filled in with, "two-dimensional "strong" woman will subvert the male lead and kick his ass and save herself."
You don't have to be Nostradamus. You just have to have been paying a bit of attention for the past decade or so. This is *everything.* TV, movies, books, comics, games, plays, musicals, operas. Everything. This is the only thing that the entertainment companies have done for years on end.
It's just so freaking boring. Even if there were a modicum of talent or artistic merit on display - and there isn't, but that is beside the point - it would *still* be offensively boring. "It was good, but I'm bored" would be the very best possible interpretation of such a production at this point - and they can't even achieve that, because none of this is any good.

Script wasn't worth wiping your ass with. Generic, at times incomprehensible, messy, dumb, and repetitive. Characters and entire plotlines (eg, the CIA subplot) were developed and then just dropped like they were from another movie. Terrible and offensive ending.

GB Shaw is fascinating and wonderful. Whether read or staged (can modern actors do it?) his mastery of language and mores is admirable. Whatever social group he was in, his writing could not stop the questions about either side. The fence is hard . . .

You can only lecture people in so many different ways before they are entirely through with it . . . at least in my case. It was novel and brave back in say early 2000s. Now it is just tiresome drivel.
You have to go back to the '70s - '90s to find truly entertaining movies that just seek to entertain, without hectoring on this or that "social justice" issue. And I have been.

My guess is that Israel intercepted a shipment of pagers and modded them to achieve this. Once they go out the door, they wind up wherever Hezbollah sent them. That shipment apparently went to Lebanon, but some got further afield. Those that blew up elsewhere were probably issued in Lebanon. The post-event analysis over the next couple of weeks should be very interesting.

My bet is that *something* happens in the next couple of days. I was speculating on the prior thread that in terms of a surgical strike against cell leadership, this wasn't hugely effective. Lots of injuries and people knocked out of commission for a few hours or days, but few deaths. But now *all* comms are suspect. When will the next one hit? Lebanon has apparently already called for everyone to throw away their mobile devices and replace them.
The real benefit here might have been to cause panic and suspicion of comms, and get the enemy to throw away their own coordination mechanism. That will create an intelligence and response vacuum. That vacuum won't be there for long, but if you what you really want is not corpses but widespread chaos to create an opportunity for something big, this is probably a pretty effective method to achieve it.

My bet is that Israel intercepted a shipment and modified the devices. Elaborate and difficult, but doable. We may find out at some point. Another thing I can think of is remotely-exploitable malware to take advantage of a design flaw that allowed it to force the the device control systems to overdrive the batteries and make them torch off. That is pretty complicated, but within the realm of possibility. If it's something super high-tech like that, it invites lots of uncomfortable questions for Motorola.

I happen to like Lloyd Webber. That being said, Cats couldn't have worked, simply because Eliot's verse was designed to be simplistic and you can really only set it to basic tumpty-tum ditties. "Memory" only worked because Trevor Nunn rejiggered bits and pieces to produce a workable lyric and LW was channeling his inner Puccini.
I find Evita still to be a fasciating, jagged score (especially the original concept album), but nearly everything else he has done without Tim Rice has been dust in the wind. I think Sunset Boulevard was his last good score, and that only because he had the brilliant Wilder-Brackett movie as a source.

This is probably the point. "How did they do it" is likely *the* question being asked in every intelligence operation on earth.
If it involved physical intervention (adding charges or modifying the devices, etc. prior to delivery), this is a manageable risk. If it was a remote op - some kind of malware that detonated the batteries or somesuch - it's an unmitigated disaster at global scale. If it's the latter, there has to be an immediate assessment of firmware (probably) for every device manufactured in the past couple of decades. There has to be an analysis of power control logic chips (probably) to determine what might be vulnerable to a similar operation. Millions of devices will have to be patched, or replaced if they can't be patched.
Everyone is probably desperately hoping that this was a relatively straightforward hijack-modify-release operation.

The play with the original cast wasn't bad. Saw it years ago with a musical-obsessed pinay. The trailer for the movie looks like The Wizard of Frozen. That's Ariana Grande? Wow. Didn't recognize her. I met her once. She's so short and tiny you'd swear she was 12 years old in heavy makeup.

If it was just the battery, I wouldn't expect ANY deaths. How much C4 (or other explosive) do you think you van fit into a tiny pager, while still leaving all the existing components in? And, while powerful, tiny amounts of high explosive might not be enough to reliably kills people. Humans can be remarkably resilient.

Speaking of historical revisionism I started watching some submarine movie set in WWII. I noticed right away there were black crew members which simply didn't happen back then so stopped watching. I don't care about including black soldiers/sailors where it was possible but case like that is simply ridiculous and ruins the movie.

More than 300 are critical is actually "critical". In some ways, it might be better for Mossad to horribly cripple and maim a bunch of their terrorist leader enemies instead of killing them outright. Basil II might have some thoughts on the subject.
