99 Love this painting on several levels. The soft lighting makes the room look comfortable while still allowing some highlights on clothing, the model's back and reflective surfaces of the items. There is a still life quality to the setting. And the artist really captured the restful, cozy feel of the topic as the two relax from the discipline of painting and posing. Thoroughly pleasant and enjoyable.

Would I prefer the model from the front? Yeah, I am a guy. But taking the frontal nudity out of the scene adds to the relaxed moment being portrayed. Nice choice, CBD.

Tubal, it's raining lightly here now. I brought some trash to the dumpster -- if the power goes out, I don't want a bag of garbage stinking up the place -- and had to wear a rain jacket and hat, but it's not bad yet. The storm has moved up to a Category 1 hurricane; some news pundits locally are saying it's *possible* it'll become a 2.

My area doesn't flood, so the only thing I'm really worried about is the power failing. There's food and water for me and the cats, the car is gassed up and ready to roll if need be (and it's parked away from trees). If the power goes out, I have a battery radio and battery-powered lanterns.

If the power stays out, well, I can load the cats and a bag into the car and roll somewhere else. Which reminds me, I need to locate a hotel outside the area which will accept pets.

I had one in 1973-4. Usually issued by AAA and corresponding associations in other countries. You have to have a valid license in the issuing country to get one. It's a booklet with pages in various languages, and mine had English on the last page, with photo and all the issuing details. May vary in other countries.

It's a good second half. It's different. There's obviously some extra subtextual connection going on between the halves because Gomer and Animal have these thematic connections, but it feels more like a half-considered idea than something with real weight.

I keep wanting to like the overall package more than I do, but the second half being different feels purposeful and intentional. The effect is just kind of...not quite there. I keep expecting to figure it out at some point, like that time I watched Persona three nights in a row and finally went, "I get it!"

This is probably the worst part of last night. The press made it absolutely clear they aren’t even going to pretend to pretend to be free. If Muir had outright said “We are fully committed to fascism” it couldn’t have been more clear.

Gas was over $2.00 here, more like $2.20, for most of his time in office. It only dropped to $1.65 during the early months of the Sniffle Scare, when people were driving less and demand was lower. I remember being startled that a local station that offers ethanol-free regular, and naturally charges more for it than E10, was offering it at $1.65 in March and April of '20. I made a special trip once a week to fill up there.

Right now I'm seeing $2.85 for 87. So it's up .65 -- but it has been as high as $3.40, so there was your $1.20 increase.

I like this painting but wonder if it's a self-portrait of the artist and also how often someone would have tripped over that carpet. Even if I had the room, I might pass hanging this for one or two others in his collection.

They still require a receiver pack that can be strapped to the "talent's" belt, or, a female can strap it to her inner thigh. Last night I was angry that Trump took the bait too many times, and allowed himself to go on tangents about his crowd size, etc.

This morning, I'm more righteously indignant at Harris and co. I keep thinking about her smug look whenever she knew she'd gotten Trump to take the bait, and I realized she is playing games with my life, my children's future, and the potential downfall of America just to stick it to "Orange man bad."

In hindsight I think the DU idiots are wrong - she looked like a teen girl play acting every minute last night. I've seen a few clips of the debate this morning on the news. 348 IMHO, Trump blew it by not doing prep work. It would only take a day, but he would need to shut down his ego and pride and self-confidence and admit that coaching and practice really pays off.

354 FMJ: I did enjoy the whole movie but didn't quite get the reason for the second part particularly since most of the day-to-day stuff was in the bush. maybe two different scripts by different people married into one movie? Also it's Hollywood so every Nam movie has to have a negative connotation for US forces.

Goldman, of Princess Bride fame, wrote his first book at a young age. I had it as a paperback, "The Temple Of Gold", about the main protagonist in HS then Army. Boot camp was an interesting part and had a loser just as in FMJ.

Much of the Republican Party still asleep and rising political star Kamala Harris on her way to an easy victory over some shitty dummy who hates us. They would have gotten away with a lot more during Covid too.

I always said, far back as 2017 or 2018 right here, that the plan had been Hillary for eight years and then the coup de grace (which I used to spell wrong) on America with Kamala in 2024. I have receipts.

It's startling but not surprising they were able to put Kamala back on the track with a stolen election and then not a single vote for her.

I feel like Cassandra sometimes.

362 The most annoying thing for me about Swift is she just refuses to grow up. I actually had hopes she would, during the pandemic, with her more mature, unplugged sounds of her two pandemic albums. And then the pandemic ends and she starts her press for the tour, and it's the same old tired mean girl pretending to be nice schtick she's done since her 20s. Kissing and telling in music and pretending she has no power and is the bullied one. Making her fans overpay for overpriced crappy merch and buying the same album twenty different ways to prove they're the ultra swifty.

Luckily, her endorsement skills are about on par with Obama's, so picking Kamala doesn't mean it's in the bag.
