This work is considered his grandest and most encompassing. It was commissioned by Giacomo Lomellini, the Doge of Genoa, and depicts his family, though he himself does not appear in the work. This is because incumbent doges were forbidden from being depicted, to prevent self-promotion.

----- Including the famous triple portrait. Charles I in Three Positions, also known as the Triple Portrait of Charles I, is an oil painting of Charles I of England painted 1635–1636[1] by the Flemish artist Sir Anthony van Dyck, showing the king from three viewpoints: left full profile, face on, and right three-quarter profile. 119 Yeah. Anthony van Dyck became a court painter under Charles. He did quite a few portraits of the king.
"The Anthony van Dyck Show", which premiered in 1962 on CBS, was cancelled after numerous viewer complaints following the series fifth show in which, Roberto stabbed wife, Laura, through the heart for suspected infidelity, wrongly as it turns out. All at the instigation of Son, Robbie the Weasel of Silence, and sister, Sally the She-Wolf of Turin, as they were known to their playmates. Upon this revelation, Roberto committed suicide by drinking poison and died in agony as the end credits rolled and the cheerful theme song played. For years, the remaining episodes were never shown having been locked in a vault in Cucamonga. Netflix is proud to announce that it has retained all 13 episodes of "The Anthony van Dyck Show", which will be shown in their entirety as a weekly series starting this Friday. Damn interesting portrait. The dark, ominous background and clothing really makes the faces stand out. And each face is very individualistic: the haughty soldier on the left, the stern man in the middle who notices everything, and the calculating expression on the woman. (Even the woman's hand seems more like a grasping claw or talon.) It all screams 'we have power, don't mess with us'. There is no warmth in the image. The children are also individuals with their very different expressions and they aren't happy, especially the boy. Even the dog is a little terror.
I can't help but feel there is some humor involved in the painting. Everything is just a bit exaggerated, from the expressions to their stances. And the artist's self portrait, with a huge sunflower, hints at that as well. It adds an element of fun to the appreciation of the art. Posted by: JTB at September 04, 2024 10:01 AM (zudum) 159

We all know that Lurch was banging Morticia.
There's an episode of The Addams Family called "Gomez, The People's Choice," where Gomez decides to run for mayor. At first, Morticia is pleased, but when Gomez pays more attention to his candidacy than to her, she plots with Grandmama and Uncle Fester to sabotage his candidacy. At the end of the episode, when Gomez finds out, he swears he will never forgive her. Morticia says something in French, and then Gomez begins kissing her hand and arm, all the time muttering, "I'll never forgive you. . .never, never, never. . ." At which point Morticia turns to the camera and gives it a sly, lustful smile which all but tells you the two of them are going upstairs to fuck their brains out. You really have to see it to get the full picture. Sadly, I can't find a clip to post. Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing at September 04, 2024 10:04 AM (Q0kLU) 167

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at September 04, 2024 10:12 AM (J2vNu) Comedy shorts (sound ones, I mean) are really hit or miss, and you either love them or find them irritating. I happen to like the Stooges, but really only the classic 1933-35 episodes, and even those have some clunkers. Charley Chase made some funny domestic-themed shorts and I also like - though these are really hit or miss - the shorts Hal Roach produced with Thelma Tood and Zasu Pitts (later replaced by Patsy Kelly). I do like L&H's Big Business and The Music Box, but to me they are funnier in silence than in sound. Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing at September 04, 2024 10:17 AM (Q0kLU) 195

I am not a fan of gender-based appeals. I’m pleased Kamala Harris has mostly avoided them. Two: the former FiL was perpetually annoyed at you, wasn't he?
Posted by: blake - semi lurker in marginal standing He didn't like me and tried to convince his son to find someone else. He thought my family was beneath him. Rob pissed him off repeatedly by saying I was the smartest person he ever met. Only the dad was supposed to get that accolade! Plus, I made him look like a complete fool a few times without trying. Eg... He asked what that perfect circle of dark green grass was in my yard. I said it was a fairy ring he sneered that wasn't correct and he knew better. My dad walked up. Dad worked as grounds keeper at IU golf course for 45 years. Asshole says, well maybe you can tell me what that is. Dad says, it's a fairy ring. Asshole is stunned, his dying son smirked and chuckled at his discomfort and I got the evil eye. RMBS, how was the food?
Posted by: Ben Had at September 04, 2024 10:49 AM Excellent. The food on the ship was great, especially the French restaurant we did dinner at for the Mom's birthday.
