The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

Oh look! The spoiled, entitled idiots are back on Columbia's campus, pissing away the $93,417 cost of attendance that their parents have to cough up. Of course they are also boycotting classes, but judging by the quality of the education available at Columbia, that might be the better choice.

There is nothing quite like the ignorance of college students. It is an obnoxious combination of complete lack of knowledge, and fervent, loud, angry confidence that they are correct. And that is a perfect target for the hard left, because these morons are almost infinitely malleable...happily doing what they are told, following the herd, and feeling oh-so-wonderfully smug.

Chaos at Columbia: Pro-Hamas Students Block Entry To Campus, Vandalize Statue on First Day of Classes

"Students For Justice In Palestine" released this statement:

"Sheikh Yassin was assassinated by the Zionists in 2004, but even in death, his legacy of unrelenting resistance in the face of oppression lives on," the group wrote on Telegram. "He lives on in his students, which includes the current head of Hamas, Yahya Sinwar—the man who fooled the Zionist entity—and all the Palestinian fighters who embody the steadfastness that Yassin taught."

That sounds like explicit support for a terrorist organization, which would normally be grounds for, at the very least, a few questions from our vaunted anti-terrorism organizations. But nothing of the sort is happening, and SJP has been around for almost 25 years, spouting the same terror-supporting, kill-the-Jews vitriol at campuses across the country. Read "Discover The Networks" for a good analysis!

And the upper-middle-class twits wearing masks and keffiyahs -- the 21st century version of a KKK robe and hood -- happily support this. Never mind that they are the quintessential useful idiots of the left, and will be discarded the second they are no longer useful.

I wonder whether this is a country-wide movement, or are the saner universities in the Mid-West, the South, and the Mountain West largely immune to the dangerous stupidity of these entitled twits? A glimpse at the college football coverage shows a lot of college students doing what they traditionally do...drinking beer and watching their teams on Saturday afternoon.

The peculiar stupidity of the Ivy league is certainly on display, and their compatriots at Stanford and Berkeley and Duke and several other universities are dominating the news cycle. But what is the general tone on our university campuses? I cannot imagine a similar protest occurring in Tuscaloosa or Gainesville or Clemson or Lawrence, with its overt hatred of Western culture and America.

But the culture surrounding Columbia and the other schools that are displaying this sort of savage hatred of Jews, Israel, and America is supportive of this behavior, and until that changes...and it probably won't...we will have a core of anti-Western, anti-American, anti-Israel, and most of all...pro-Islam fervor.

The way to change it in the short term is simple. Crack some heads and send them to jail. Make the rioters afraid of rioting. And in the long term? Starve the beast...end government funding of any university that allows this sort of behavior.

Nope. I'm not holding my breath.

Oh yes...I was maybe two years out of college gainfully employed as an engineer, dating a sophomore/junior out of U of A - year older than me, but I think maturity gap was from the difference in college vs done with college. Every 100 level class she took made her an expert, and something she'd try and then fix with me. nutrition...wellness...posture...all this was before I was more interested in politics. Thank God we broke up before we got married and I was paying for those student loans. Modern Dance student and an engineer. Can't imagine why it didn't work out...

When I write about Western Culture it is axiomatic that I am referring to Christianity.

The proximate cause of all of this strife is Israel's defensive war against Hamas (and Islam), so clearly the focus will be on Jews and Israel.

But...the larger war is indeed against Western Culture, Christianity, and Judaism.

The year was 2016. Donald Trump had just won the presidency. A friend of mine, who at that point had owned his own business for several years, got into a scrap with a mutual friend on Facebook. In jumps this 22-year old to tell the business owner that he was wrong which policies would ultimately help his business.

My first pass at college, for all that it was the '70s, was pretty much like high school, except less fun (yes, I said that) and with a longer commute from home. If you go away to school, it feels like you have some freedom to party for the first time in your life. Not if you live at home with no room of your own and attend a commuter college.

Terry Ranch near Cheyenne has a pretty sizable herd, but yes, they are stubborn critters.

Years ago my buddy's uncle bought a small herd for some damn reason. The beasts kept knocking down the fencing and roaming around. Last I heard the herd had taken up residence on Sheep Mountain near Buffalo Bill Reservoir. It would be pretty cool if they were still there.

Terry Ranch near Cheyenne has a pretty sizable herd, but yes, they are stubborn critters.

Years ago my buddy's uncle bought a small herd for some damn reason. The beasts kept knocking down the fencing and roaming around. Last I heard the herd had taken up residence on Sheep Mountain near Buffalo Bill Reservoir. It would be pretty cool if they were still there.

I used to buy nothing but Wigwam Merino Light Hikers. They were comfy Winter and Summer, and wore like iron. But they discontinued that model, or altered it beyond recognition. I found a brand called Woolrich, while not the equal of the Light Hikers, are acceptable, and much less expensive.

They do tell you not to get off the train for any reason. In Yellowstone, when buffalo are in the middle of the road, a ranger directs cars around it and tell people to stay away.
