The Morning Report — 8/26/24

2025blowout.jpg

Good morning kids. Well it certainly seems that the reaction of America's foreign enemies and rivals to the prospect of Harris and Walz being installed in the white House is the inverse of every sane, rational American citizen that still has a Pulse and more than two functioning neurons to rub together, unlike the vegetable who was deposed, and who she colluded with to set the stage for the final destruction of America as founded by enemies foreign and most especially domestic. That is, her and her party and those who support their goal of fundamental transformation.

As things heat up in Israel, along its northern border with Lebanon, essentially an armed encampment of Hezbollah and by extension Iran.

Approximately 100 [Israel Air Force] fighter jets, directed by IDF intelligence, struck and destroyed thousands of Hezbollah rocket launcher barrels that were located and embedded in southern Lebanon. Most of these launchers were aimed toward northern Israel and some were aimed toward central Israel. More than 40 launch areas in Lebanon were struck during the strikes. . .

. . . According to some reports, Hezbollah had been planning to launch a barrage of thousands of rockets at Tel Aviv. After the Israeli airstrike, Hezbollah launched hundreds of rockets, to little effect. More Hezbollah rockets were expected. Israeli authorities prohibited large public gatherings in the central and northern part of the country, and advised people that while it was safe to go to work (Sunday is part of the work week in Israel), they should only do so if they had access to a bomb shelter. In the event of sirens, people were to enter “safe rooms” or shelters for ten minutes.

Naturally, by refusing to allow themselves to be slaughtered and removing the threat, Israel will no doubt be accused of dangerous escalation, if not war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity from Turtle Bay, to Foggy Bottom and college campuses around the nation, as well as the editorial boards and anchors' desks of the propagandists.

Meanwhile, Iran's Houthi allies blew up a Greek-flagged oil tanker in the Red Sea

Which could give the Junta, whoever the hell is now in charge supposed cover to put NATO forces, meaning Americans, in harm's way. Which is kind of funny since the Junta is pro-Iran, anti-israel and to an extent anti-Saudi. And lest we forget, anti-oil!

At the same time, we are still sending billions of dollars more to the borscht belt belligerent Zelensky to continue the pointless support of a meat-grinder that could, with a miscalculation, potentially force Putin or one of his generals to go ballistic. As in nuclear. Please do not misconstrue this as my approval of Putin's invasion of Ukraine. I only oppose our getting mixed up in a centuries old border dispute and ethnic war, this latest round that could've perhaps been avoided and even ended well over a year or more ago.

Lurker extraordinaire Victor Davis Hanson notes:

There are three current hot or cold wars: on the Ukrainian border, in the regions surrounding Israel, and in the strategic space between Taiwan and mainland China. All three conflicts could not only expand within their respective theaters but also escalate to draw in the United States. And all three involve nuclear powers. . .

. . . Joe Biden has been judged by the American people in the polls as too enfeebled to be reelected and declared by his own party to be too cognitively challenged to remain its nominee. That may suggest to foreign risk-takers that the U.S. president is deemed unfit by Americans themselves and thus conclude there might be a vacuum of rapid-response leadership at the White House.

The unspoken corollary is that the American people and both their political parties are certain that, while Biden is incapable of continuing as a normally engaged president through the last half-year of his tenure, he will nevertheless inevitably do so. And that conclusion is likely shared by enemies abroad, who may surmise that if there ever was a time to alter the current geostrategic map or the relative balance of power, that rare occasion is now on the horizon.

And lest we forget it's the Democrats stated official position that America is an illegitimate nation whose power, position and influence is a mistake of history. Just look at what was stated on the opening night of Nuremberg '38/Chicago '24. That is taken straight from their official Democrat Party Platform. Just as they want to replace Israel with Iran as the key power in the middle East, they want to replace America with Red China as the World's global military and economic authority.

Have a good day.

    ABOVE THE FOLD, BREAKING, NOTEWORTHY

  • Victor Davis Hanson: Amid doubts about Biden's ability to effectively lead the U.S. in his remaining months as president, our enemies abroad might see an opportunity to alter the global balance of power.

carpet bombing.

sure, put the guidance package on them if you insist, but round the clock bombing of all available targets by flights of B-52s, B-1s, B-2s, and everything that 3 carrier strike groups could throw at any area closest to a launch site would go a long way towards convincing them that it's not a great idea....

94 I think what has most surprised all of us watching is that Hezballah, and by extension Iran, is much weaker than we had feared. Strength and weakness is not measured by equipment but rather by wartime performance, and theirs has been pathetic.

Hezballah has a huge number of missiles etc in storage which have been sent to them by Iran, but apparently has a critical shortage of launchers for the more accurate, long range weapons. Those launchers were what the IDF targeted, as Hezballah had exposed many of them in preparation for a large scale attack.

Hard Right: The GOP's Drift Toward Extremism

As a Republican, Mona Charen hardly recognizes her own party anymore. The party’s focus has shifted from policy to provocation.
Over time, many mainstream Republicans have embraced extremist views that were once reserved for the fringes—challenging free and fair elections, praising demagogues, encouraging conspiracies, and abandoning basic respect and decency.

She must have the ability to read. Who does not know that PA voted around 108% of registered voter in close to half the major cities. There were 400k people that voted in AZ that do not exist as a SS paying person. There are at LEAST 200k ballot images in GA that did not come from a scanner.

Joe Biden has been judged by the American people in the polls as too enfeebled to be reelected and declared by his own party to be too cognitively challenged to remain its nominee. Two things:
1. The Israeli theater only probably involves nuclear powers, and the Chinese theater involves an unknown number of nuclear powers. Taiwan, Korea or Japan *could* be nuclear powers. If they're smart, they are. They've had close to four years since it was obvious that they really should be. All the unknowns change risk calculation (assuming they are actually unknown to the people involved, instead of just to outsiders).

253 228 The Lodge at Shavano Park apartments in San Antonio, Texas, wasn't about to let 91-year-old Sanda Bonilla out of her lease for some lame excuse like dying. According to the apartment complex, Bonilla still owed them $14,368 in future rent, as well as another $1,117 for a lease break fee, and they sent the bill to the next of kin with a threat to send it to collections if they didn't cover her lease. The bill even states the reason for breaking the lease as "deceased."

Texas doesn’t have a filial responsibility law for unpaid medical bills let alone this. They can’t recover this from adult children. They can go to probate and hope the estate has enough to cover, but in the mean time they must make a true effort to lease the apartment again and mitigate losses.

She'll have the Red Devil treatment in the last 4 rounds, which is 5 months away.

She was VERY flushed in the heat this weekend. Really couldn't be outside very long and wore down quickly. Then she started having some issues in her 'female area' that we weren't sure about that had her sidelined most of yesterday. She didn't sleep very well all weekend, but did get good rest last night.

But NASA is stuck with them. SpaceX is the only outfit that can consistently deliver. It doesn't make NASA happy. NASA has been stacking the deck in bidding rules to make it easier to select non-SpaceX vendors at higher prices, but SpaceX *still* keeps winning. Track record counts with billions of dollars in hardware and priceless human lives are at stake every launch.

300 Mosquito population surges can be highly localized. They aren't, usually, because weather trends will affect large regions all the same. But in some years, it can be drier or breezier than 'average' in parts of the country, and other parts will be swamp bottom. Where I am, despite a sloppy spring, an earlier than usual hot and dry spell, then a cool August followed by a normal August, one thing we forgot to complain about was that this has been a better than average year for the mosquito count. Plenty of Cicada-Killers, though. AFAIK they don't carry any mystical Eastern diseases.

Embarrassing, yes. Also bad for the mission. The crew complement going up to the ISS is at half-strength so there's room and suits for them on the return flight. A few things from experience. Find out what supplements are ok. Vitamin D-1000 B6 -100 and Magnesium are helpful. The first two can help with bone pain and some of the discomfort in the “female” area. They can also help keep your blood work good. Eat a lot of fresh fruit especially grapes when not nauseous. Things like rapini, especially with garlic can help keep levels up. Make sure there is also good protein in the diet. A light massage of the area where she is experiencing pain (get to work lol). Some places don’t want you to take ibuprofen for pain. That’s based on the potential impact on platelets. But the leading cancer says that’s not true. It can really help with the pain (short of taking opioids which can further complicate things like constipation from the chemo). YMMV and always check with your doctors. But I can tell you nutrition is key.

Prayers out.

Where there appears to be a fair bit of shock and surprise in the general public, for those who have tracked the story closest, the feeling could be found along the spectrum from resignation to dismay.
This did not happen overnight - and for those given responsibility for our nation’s sea power, this was only a matter of time. By acts of commission and omission, the nation that likes to call itself the world’s greatest - because we are no longer the largest - seapower, finds itself here;
The Navy will reportedly sideline 17 vessels due to a manpower shortage that makes it difficult to properly crew and operate ships across the fleet.

The ships include two replenishment ships, one fleet oiler, a dozen Spearhead-class Expeditionary Fast Transports and two forward-deployed Navy expeditionary sea bases – the USS Lewis Puller, based in Bahrain and the USS Herschel "Woody" Williams, based in Souda Bay, Greece.
The effort is known as the "great reset" and is awaiting approval from Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Lisa Franchetti. The change will reduce Navy demands for officers by 700 mariners.

NASA, by and large, still does. SpaceX has few friends in government.

Third anniversary of Abby Gate, brought, in part, by middle class Joe AND middle class Kamala.

U.S. DOD, Release, Immediate Release
Statement by Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III Marking Three Years Since the Attack at Abbey Gate
Aug. 26, 2024 | (one hour ago)

"Today marks three years since we lost 13 American heroes in the cruel terrorist attack at Abbey Gate outside Kabul's Hamid Karzai International Airport. Approximately 170 Afghan civilians were also murdered in that attack.

We will never forget these 13 brave Americans — 11 Marines, a Soldier, and a Sailor — who lost their lives defending their teammates and helping to save tens of thousands of Afghans seeking freedom and the opportunity for a better life.

Another year has passed, but our gratitude will never wane. My thoughts are with our fallen troops and their families on this somber day — and with the families of all those whose loved ones made the ultimate sacrifice during America's two decades of war in Afghanistan."

Maybe if your organization didn't spend several years ignoring orders to prepare for with withdrawal only to be caught-footed when they actually had to *do* it even when the New Boss came in, the outcome would have been different. Maybe there wouldn't have been so many cooks in the kitchen that nobody knew what was going on. Maybe strategic disagreements - like the "decamp from Bagram" vs "decamp from Kabul" question - would have been ironed out.

But we'll never know. DoD spent years disregarding orders and blithely assumed that the Party would *never* withdraw from Afghanistan. You partied until the money ran out and when the time came to put out the cat and bring in the dog, they both got loose.

That's on you.

381 Per my understanding - so please correct me if I'm wrong - contractors do it anyway, even in the old days. Just under NASA control. All that stuff is built by Lockheed or Rockwell or Boeing or Douglass or whatever.

The key difference in the Commercial Crew program is that rather than top-down control, NASA just hands out parameters and requirements and says, "deliver me a vehicle that does X, Y and Z at the price quoted."
Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at August 26, 2024 09:22 AM (HnUIn)

I believe you’re correct, Joe. I’ve never worked for NASA but I’ve worked on NASA programs for big aerospace contractors. In my case only worked on unmanned programs but “back in the day” (90s and early aughts) when you worked on a NASA program you’d better have every t crossed and i dotted and all your analyses and tests better be sound. They had a large team of smart and competent engineers and nothing got past them… pretty much every program in aerospace these days operates by throwing requirements over the wall and it’s a recipe for disaster

Because it would leave them without a lifeboat and the current situation is urgent but not critical? The two people from the test crew can slot in to augment the upcoming crew, and so they'll just keep it on schedule instead of spending millions on an extra launch later to get things back to baseline?

Just guessing.
