Think about the Trump presidency, the policies and the general well being of our country. Now think about what has happened under Biden-Harris. Specifically, start with the COVID policies that used the government to take away people’s rights, forcing them to take medicine they don’t want, taking away their livelihoods and subverting the First Amendment rights of anyone who opposed them. The take that further into the biggest assault on our Bill of Rights on the history of our country by using the government to undermine free speech, and using the justice system to jail their opponents. It’s still happening to this day and they don’t care. Them move along to the absolute deliberate destruction of our economy by flooding their benefactors with our tax money, and undermining the economy for their green policies and other graft. Finally the assault on our country by opening the borders and flooding our communities with illegal aliens, crime and them pillaging of our health care and public services. I am watching veterans and seniors who spent their lives building our country being pushed out, going hungry. Fuck them. They must be crushed. I found it interesting that JFK Jr.'s sibs trashed him after his expressed support for PDT.
I mean, I have 7 sibs - the low of averages would suggest a few asshoes in the bunch. That conjecture would be correct btw. But no matter what my political leanings are, my sibs wouldn't publicly trash me. They (RFK Jr.'s kin) must really be some pieces of work. Posted by: Tonypete at August 23, 2024 10:14 PM (mC3iL) 35

Evening, all,
I sat and watched Trump and "Bobby" on Newsmax. Awesome stuff. As I said earlier, 1968 can move over; 2024 is shaping up to have more turns, twists, and events than The Last of Sheila. And it ain't over yet. Still I feel hopeful. Not only have we gained an ally with his own followers, but we have X to help get the word out about that and about how horrible at the core Knee-Pads and Tampon Timmy are. If Kennedy followers can be swayed by his change of attitude, perhaps others, independents or undecideds, can too. Yay! Friday Over Night Thread - always a FONT of wisdom and knowledge.
Writing from Fishing Bridge CG in Yellowstone NP. Leaving tomorrow for Mt. Rushmore via Buffalo, Wy. Yesterday and today we saw Old Faithful and numerous geysers and mud pots bubbling and steam vents hissing. We saw the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and a doe nursing her fawns and lots of Bison. Mornings cold enuf we ran the camper heater and today light hail (leetle round white sno balls) and 47 F at 5 PM. This definitely isn't 'Surf City'. Blessings to all. Further bulletins as events warrant. Posted by: Anonymous Rogue in Kalifornistan (ARiK) at August 23, 2024 10:32 PM (rYayU) 114
It's really interesting on X. Kennedy supporters making connections with Trump supporters. Trump supporters welcoming them and letting them know it's okay to disagree. It's exactly what we need.

I guess no one here has heard my chin story.
I was in Rome back in December. I was out in the morning getting in a 13 mile run. I was running around the Vatican (kinda cool to say you ran around an entire country) and tripped on an exposed root. I went down hard and split open my chin. Anyway, because I am a dumb runner, I kept running another 11 miles to finish the workout. Got back to the hotel and got into a cab to the closest hospital to get stitched up. I think it was 4 stitches. While I'm in there, the place looks like a war zone, gurneys filled with young teenage men with bruises, groaning like they are going to die. Meanwhile, I'm standing there stretching my calves. I don't recommend Italian hospitals. The care was competent enough, but peeling paint, gurneys piled up in hallways, dingy. Not at all what I'm used to here. Posted by: Dave in Fla at August 23, 2024 10:50 PM (5p7BC) 189

When I was in high school, I once tripped on an escalator and busted my face open. My friends and I were on our way to see a movie. I still ended up going to the movie that night, despite my face being a bloody mess. Didn't even bother to go get stitches.“
A few years back I was on an outdoor trail and was careless going down some stone steps, tripped and pitched headfirst down them. I got my arms in front of me before I hit , though, and even though I broke one elbow and dislocated the other , I remember thinking as I landed “I am so glad I didn’t hit my face, or my teeth!” Made the pain a bit more bearable. 1. 24 August is Ukrainian Independence Day. The foreign embassies in Kiev have urged their citizens to get out of the country, as a storm of Russian missiles is expected. 2. Burn the 1st Amendment while you're at it. Oh, and what's a flag? After all, the flag that gets burnt will have stripes that aren't technically the right shade or the stars weren't the right configuration, or the dimensions were ever so slightly off. You know what shithole/shitty countries do? They jail people for burning their flag. No thanks.
Posted by: SFGoth at August 23, 2024 11:05 PM (KAi1n) Don't jail flag burners; waste of money. Put them in stocks for a day, and encourage bystanders to throw rotten fruit at them. It's not that people on the right are " cool" with the U. S. flag being burned...it's that flag burning has been ruled political speech by SCOTUS so....the left does it and if you beat the crap out of a leftist for burning the flag....you go to prison....for a long time....it's a tricky situation.....best to respond with speech pointing out the left doesn't burn the flags of numerous repressive communist or terrorist regimes around the world, just our US flag. They hate the U.S. obviously..... Posted by: Some Guy in Wisconsin at August 23, 2024 11:20 PM (73U9R) 307
It is, the flag, a symbol of the Constitution and the country. It is more important the the Constitution be protected than the flag
Get it right Posted by: N at August 23, 2024 11:05 PM (8XibL) Still incorrect. The Constitution has no value on it's own. Governments, and necessarily the nation that they govern, are formed among men in order to preserve our God-given Rights and the Constitution is just the permission slip we (through our State governments) give the current federal government to exist. It's a temporary arrangement, like the articles of Confederation before it, and can be replaced by something else if we conclude that it isn't working. If you hate the founding values of the nation, your loyalty cannot be counted on, and neither the people of the nation nor our government has any obligation to be concerned for your Rights. This is of course untenable if you are allowed to remain inside the nation since we do need to restrict the government in its dealings with us, so expulsion is the most reasonable (but not only) option. It's not really the flag that deserves protection but what the act of publicly destroying it communicates about the burner. Posted by: Methos at August 23, 2024 11:20 PM (Dnobf) 308

Boeing's last good military plane is a tie - the B-52 and KC-135.
The F-18 started life as the Northrop YF-17 and lost to the F-16. The Navy tapped McDonnell Douglas to adapt the YF-17 for carrier duty and thus was born the F-18 POS. So no, really can't blame Boeing for the Hornet or Super Hornet though they build it now. Posted by: Anna Puma at August 23, 2024 11:27 PM (vNdJC) 339

Whenever I see a picture of flag burning, I notice that flags don't burn very well, which is why the burners are always clustered tightly around it for the photo op.
I think a bucket of gasoline, sloshed around the vicinity of the smoldering flag, would greatly speed up the process and allow the burners to concentrate on other activities. Posted by: Idaho Spudboy at August 23, 2024 11:39 PM (6cZhR) 378

It is appropriate to say fuck you feelings here.
Words have .meaning and there are no exceptions to the first amendment. - Fuck your feelings, too. Let's go with that "words have meaning" idea. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances" There is no possibility that the men who wrote and signed that meant "by all means burn our flag as a sign you hate the project we're undertaking here." They surely would have seen such a deed as the act of a traitor and executed him if he didn't escape their reach. Speech is vocal communication. "The Press" covers written communication. Burning a flag is neither of those things. Introducing fire at a protest also ends the reasonable description of it as "peacebly." None of us are under any obligation to support additional meaning that rogue judges have tried to impose on that text. And in any case the text exists only to limit government, not us. F-18 is not my favorite aircraft.
Navy glossed over its shortcomings from the start. It was short legged, always needed external tanks which meant it could not ever carry a full load of bombs. The plane's rate of roll was less than specified. The Navy said it wanted two engines for safety, but it had been very happy with the A-4 and A-7 being single engine attack planes. Every time they needed to add capability, the whole airplane changed. Fuselage, wings, landing gear; they all changed with each upgrade from the YF-17 to the F/A-18A to the F-18E. Only the shape stayed roughly the same. Posted by: Anna Puma at August 23, 2024 11:50 PM (vNdJC) 400

Sadly, I can't see anything. I hurt my back, made the mistake of going to the hospital thinking I might have cracked a rib. No cracked rib but a worn down T7 vertebra. They sent me home in a brace, and I have been in agony for better than two weeks. I'm not sure, but I think the brace is trying to cure fifty some years of hunching over. All my hobbies require extended sitting time, hunching over to make sure I can actually see what I'm doing. Not to mention 25 years of slinging around heavy boxes of books with no help. (Those of you thinking booksellers spend all day with our feet on the desk reading need a second thought coming.) Wouldn't have traded it for a million bucks. while Eddie Van Halen made guitar wizardry a thing, David Lee Roth made early Van Halen a commercial success.
I find that when I hear Van Halen now I mostly listen to how Roth gets thru the song. Probably the best singer ever that really couldn't sing. It's all timing, noises and tone. And I am much more impressed with Eddie's songwriting than his playing. The ability to create total pop that sounded hard enough to excite young men in an era where hard was king. Also, the vampire fears the crucifix and garlic, the werewolf abhors bullets and blades of silver, and all recoil from Tilda Swinton, but none of our rag-tag band of crusaders have any idea of the weaknesses of Steve Harvey. Anyone who can put us some knowledge on this? Ric Flair is certain that elbow drops shall lay the foe low, but he says this about everything, even roofing and automotive repair. The horns in Helm's Deep sound. Or that could be the insistent honking from Danny Trejo's vehicle. What? You thought we would do this without him? Get back to us on that Steve Harvey's weakness thing, bitte. We form now our final strategies, in which we include elbow-dropping, for we do not wish for Ric to pout or prove morose. Posted by: m at August 24, 2024 04:00 AM (64Zez) 547
