12 Nice painting. The subject is by no means ugly, but she is not a great beauty* - but the setting makes the meal. Her clothes, her positioning, her posture, the grand furnishings, etc. transform her into a great beauty.

26 Wiki art-

Vigée Le Brun fled France at the beginning of the Revolution. She spent the next decade in exile, much of it in St. Petersburg, where she painted Countess Tolstaya (1774–1825). The artist’s portraits are marked by a sense of apparent directness and intimacy – as if we meet the sitters as equals, sharing a bond of mutual understanding. The Countess, casually posed, is at one with her wild surroundings; setting aside convention, she wears an unusually simple dress, inspired by Greek and Roman examples. The portrait holds out the promise of a life freed from society’s constrictions and more in sympathy with nature – a vital element of Enlightenment thought.

The actress Amy Acker is like that. She would make a lousy magazine model. She looks pretty but ordinary or even a touch homely in most pictures. In motion, though, she's astonishingly good-looking.

I guess it could be described as "kinetic beauty." Some women look great while perched on a chair and gazing out at the room. Some look great while walking across the room and interacting with the environment.

101 >> Former President Donald Trump's edge over Vice President Kamala Harris on the topics of crime and economic policy is slipping, according to a new poll.

The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll, released on Tuesday, shows Trump now maintains a slim 3% lead against Harris on employment and economic issues — 43% against Harris's 40%.

In late July, Trump was leading Harris on economic issues by 11 points in the same poll.

The last time I saw one such TV ad, I noticed that the bespectacled and mustachioed guy who was the spokesman on the live ads decades ago has served as the model for their cartoon icon. From their wbsite:

"The Empire Man was introduced in 1977 and later adapted into the popular animated TV character that has grown to become a cultural icon. The Empire Man originally appeared on TV as a role played by Lynn Hauldren. Contrary to popular belief, the Empire Man was not the company’s owner, nor was he a sales representative or installer. In the late 1970s, Hauldren was an advertising copywriter who worked for the Empire brand. The company’s owner . . . requested he play the Empire Man role after unsuccessfully auditioning several other actors. He was the friendly face that appeared on television sets telling families all about Empire’s name-brand carpet and affordable prices."

As a child, I had a face-car encounter due to a faulty bicycle. Peeled my chin right down. I sorta held my skin in place and went home. The towel my mom wrapped around my head to keep things in place before dragging me to the hospital looked vaguely like that.

Turned out it looked way worse than it was. Didn't even need stitches (glue and tape, IIRC). But boy did it *look* bad. And so did I, wearing a bloody towel wrapped around my head!

136 Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is facing a powerful defamation lawsuit arising from false claims he made about a Republican election volunteer in his 2021 book “Integrity Counts.” He wrote and published that a video presentation of unsupervised ballot counting at State Farm Arena in Atlanta had been “doctored,” “chopped up,” “cut,” “sliced up,” and “deceptively sliced and edited so that it appeared to show the exact opposite of reality,” allegedly including a “slice of video that had removed the clear evidence” that the law had been followed.

None of that was true. Jacki Pick, a Republican volunteer on the Trump legal team, was the sole presenter of the video to Georgia legislators to show that Republican election observers’ claims about unsupervised ballot counting in Georgia’s largest county were true. While she did not show the entire 20 hours of the video in her 12-minute presentation, nothing she showed was edited, chopped up, sliced, or diced, in any way.

The strategy is to try and detach Harris from Biden-Harris. The polling reflects people who have bought the lie

The media and the campaign have undertaken an effort to try and separate Harris from Biden and make people believe she had nothing to do with the current disaster. Look at the major network reporting and places like Politico over the past week or so. Also look at the Trump campaign commercials focused on tying her to these policies.

Our country is in serious trouble if people buy the medias BS. After how they deliberately hid Biden’s dementia, and then were exposed how anyone believes a word they say is amazing.

289 Wow, talk about poisoning the data set. I am applying for a job and in the demographic declaration section, one of the fields reads:

"Please select the sex with which you identify (Note: Government reporting requirements use terminology that references 'sex,' however we use this field to capture information regarding gender and gender expression)"

How much data being fed into the Department of Labor is deliberately poisoned like this? Sex and gender are in fact distinct, and this employer is flat-out telling candidates to lie on the paperwork.

I am still going to finish the application so I can add it to the pile for reporting purposes with the employment agency, but I have no intention of working for this outfit unless they decide to give me a truly stupendous amount of money.

350 Yesterday, Breitbart News reported that Cornell West said Kamala offered him a job and paying off his [campaign??] debt if he dropped out.

I'm pretty sure that violates campaign law, but, you know, Democrat, so nothing will happen (in this case, the Eeyores are correct).

362 Mexico's president has put relations with the United States and Canadian embassies "on pause" after they voiced concerns over a proposed judicial overhaul plan.

The Mexican government has paused its engagement with the ambassadors of the United States and Canada, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Tuesday.

The decision comes in the wake of criticism over a sweeping judicial reform proposal in Mexico.

"There is a pause," Lopez Obrador said in a press conference, clarifying that the freeze was with the embassies, from where the criticism came, and not with the countries.

That boy's got a good gig waiting at Our Sunday Visitor (a nominally Catholic newspaper). Reading between the lines, you can see it absolutely destroys them to admit Trump would be a better president for faithful Christians. They are not-so-secretly looking for another "pussy tape" to justify a Cackles vote.
