Leonora Carrington

*I couldn't find the title of this work after many seconds of internet searching. "TinEye" was no help, so I will happily admit defeat. The first one to find the title will get a two year cardboard membership with the Garrett-Buster app.

Addendum: Found it! Maybe. Grandmother Moorhead's Aromatic Kitchen

And of course one of you lunatics found it first! Congratulations to commenter "Piper!"

127 "In her painting of 1975, Grandmother Moorhead’s Aromatic Kitchen (above), she transforms the kitchen from a place of female oppression and labor into one of female power. Carrington has represented the kitchen as a place of strange transformations. Women are engaged in mysterious activities in a secret world unbeknownst to men; the women in this kitchen appear not to be cooking dinner for their family, but instead concocting magical spells. The painting also includes women huddled over a Mexican griddle, a place where many Mexican women spend most of their day, cooking. The garlic cloves on the floor also have a history in Mexican healing and magical rituals, of which Carrington was very interested."

Scruton's introduction to his 2009 BBC documentary Why Beauty Matters vimeo.com/128428182.

"At any time between 1750 and 1930, if you asked educated people to describe the aim of poetry, art or music, they would have replied 'beauty'. And, if you had asked for the point of that, you would have learned that beauty is a value, as important as truth and goodness.

Then, in the 20th century, beauty stopped being important. Art increasingly aimed to disturb and to break moral taboos. It was not beauty, but originality, however achieved, and at whatever moral cost, that won the prizes.

Not only has art made a cult of ugliness. Architecture too has become soulless and sterile. And it is not just our physical surroundings that have become ugly. Our language, our music, and our manners are increasingly raucous, self-centred, and offensive, as though beauty and good taste have no real place in our lives. One word is written large on all these ugly things, and that word is 'me': my profits, my desires, my pleasures. And art has nothing to say in response to this, except 'Yeah, go for it!'

I think we are losing beauty, and there is a danger that with it we will lose the meaning of life."

Texas AG announces major election fraud raids after organization accused of registering noncitizens to vote | Natural News

The Attorney General of Texas, Ken Paxton, has just launched major election fraud raids with a series of search warrants that are being carried out throughout the state as part of his two-year investigation into election fraud.

Although his team has been looking into multiple allegations, including ballot harvesting and voter fraud, one key focus of the raids is an organization that is believed to have been registering non-citizens to vote in the U.S., although the organization was not named publicly.

Paxton said that the idea of organizations who claim they are helping with voter registration but are instead illegally registering noncitizens is very troubling and that his office looks into every credible report they receive about actions that could put the integrity of our elections in doubt.

Well, then, they were not self-lighting. They were "strikable" cigarettes.

Some SF writer in the '70s, possibly Larry Niven (who used to be quite the smoker), envisioned future cigarettes, though with all the carcinogenics removed, that you would light by sucking on the proper end and poof!

I met Larry at a con in 1985. He was still smoking a pipe; he carried it in a holster on his belt. That is a serious piper.

When states do things easily recognized as tightening up election security like managing voter rolls, implementing Voter ID, and restricting mail in ballots, states become more Republican.

When states let election rolls fester and push mail in balloting in all cases, all of which would be considered questionable, at best, by UN election watchers, and they become more Democrat.

Disney Forming Committee to Replace CEO Bob Iger | Breitbart News

Morgan Stanley Executive Chairman James Gorman will lead Disney’s search for a successor to Bob Iger, two years after the company’s longtime leader came out of retirement following a rocky transition to his hand-picked replacement.

Iger returned in 2022 after a period of clashes, missteps and a weakening financial performance at Disney under his chosen successor, Bob Chapek.

Iger was Disney’s public face for 15 years, compiling a string of victories lauded in the entertainment industry and by Disney fans, before he retired in 2020.

Shares of Walt Disney Co. rose slightly before the opening bell Thursday.

On his return, Iger initially agreed to a two year contract in order to redirect Disney’s trajectory and help find a new chief executive. But in July 2023 Iger agreed to a two-year contract extension that will keep him at Disney through the end of 2026. [...]

Basically. Nicotine but none of the carcinogenic stuff (probably, per what we can tell) in a neutral substrate (sometimes/usually flavored), boiled with electricity. They aren't good for you because nicotine isn't good for you (it's addictive, it's a vasorestrictor, etc.), but they appear to be much less bad for you than cigarettes.

Partly. I think it's more fundamental than that, though.

Remember the war on smokers that started in the 80s? They always framed it as harm to others. "You can kill yourself if you want, but you can't kill *me* with your secondhand poison!" That was BS. The underlying studies screwed up the causal factors, but even that was beside the point. It was a war on smokers, as such.

When e-cigs happened in the mid aughts, it tested the assertion. That is a case where there are no secondhand effects. Even if you can smell it, nicotine vaporizes fully. The exhalation is non-dangerous (even the inhalation is only minimally dangerous). It truly is, "killing yourself, not your neighbor" - even if the "secondhand smoke" studies had been valid in the first place.

But use is still heavily restricted by law.

Never, ever call the bluff. They hate that.

If I were elected governor of a state, any state, the first thing I'd do is order an audit of voter rolls compared to a new census. I'd fund it with anything I could get my hands on.

I'd hire an outside the state resource to do the census and the audit.

Anyone resisting lawful orders would be jailed and stripped of their positions and, if possible, pensions.

When, say, Kansas City suddenly had 33% of the voting rolls after this process, I'd start criminal proceedings about how that happened.

It's called "cloud chasing." Anything raised to the status of "lifestyle component" will have a similar effect.

e-cigs are essentially a drug delivery mechanism. That's it. "Put nicotine into the bloodstream." But if it becomes part of your lifestyle or identity, it becomes a lot more. "My works are cooler than yours" or "I can make YUGE vapor clouds with my rig" and whatever.

The "cloud chasers" are lifestyle people. The discrete or indifferent ones are just looking for a clean and efficient means of delivering the chemicals.

I have been advocating exactly this for years.

Three months after the general election is certified, the rolls should be burned. The next election - whatever it is - *must* be at least six months from that date. You have up until -2 months from election day to register and get back on the rolls. If you don't get it done within sixty days of an election, you don't get to vote that time. Pay more attention next time. Repeat after every general (every four years).

Voting should imply that you are least somewhat tuned in and paying attention, and it would make roll maintenance happen by default.

Vehicle registration is a tax stamp. The roads need to be paid for. I don't really have a problem with it. I *do* have a problem with excessive registration fees that have nothing to do with road finance, like many states have. Like Colorado's aggressively horrible "ownership tax."

410 Getting decent rolling tobacco is problematic. There doesn't seem to be any mid-grade stuff. It's either $18 a pound turkish scheisse, or paying $400 a pound for the good stuff. A can of Bugler is about $50, about 4 ounces in one of those cans. Prince Albert lives in a much smaller can than I recall as well.

420 There are something like 5,000 chemicals in cigarette smoke, but usually only three in vape 'juice'. Much less harmful.

I bet there aren't 5000 compounds in unadulterated tobacco smoke, only in the corporate product.

422 How about this? Every year, on your birthday, you go into a government registry office, could be the DMV, or a franchised alternate, and renew your place on the voters list. You have to provide 2 pieces of government I.D., proof of citizenship, and proof of residence.
Clerk checks them against the records, and if they match, issues you a "registered voter" card, that you need to present at the polling place when you vote.

Fail to appear within two months of your birthday, and a registered letter to your last known address is undeliverable? You are stricken from the list.

Never took the time in all my years to ever read and really read the Bible. Currently almost through the Jerusalem Bible Old Testament and almost done with the Prophets. Next up to New Testament. So far amazing and not at all what I was expecting.
