Microsoft is planning to try again with its obviously insane Windows "Total" Recall spyware system. (Ars Technica)

This is the feature - key to the so-called Copilot Plus platform - that takes screenshots of everything you do on your computer - passwords, bank account details, confidential emails - and puts them in a single conveniently labelled and indexed box for AI assistants and Russian/Chinese/North Korean/Iranian hackers to search for you.

The database will now require you to log in with Windows Hello to access it, where before it was an all-you-can-eat data buffet for any application running on your computer.
"Security continues to be our top priority and when Recall is available for Windows Insiders in October we will publish a blog with more details," reads today's update to Microsoft Windows and Devices Corporate Vice President Pavan Davuluri's blog post.
The lie detector detected that that was a lie.

Fortunately - for now - this won't function at all unless you have a new CPU with a neural processing unit capable of at least 40 trillion operations per second. Desktop processors - even brand new ones like AMD's Ryzen 9950X - don't have that.

In waking life, the coffee tastes odd; possibly that vile Truvia sweetener, which I'd mixed in with some of the pink envelope stuff. And the pipe I packed last night and lit this morning -- either it was not a good mix, or I puffed too fast and it got hot, or the coffee affected the taste. Not a good start to a morning where I got less sleep than I should last night. Meh.

This is obviously connected to yesterday's news which I mentioned that they're trying to accuse Trump of violating the Logan Act in his conversations with Netanyahu.

As I said, this was not based on my original reporting; I was referring to reports I had read, in Axios and Reuters, about former President Trump having spoken to the Israeli Prime Minister.

In the live TV moment, I repeated the story because I hadn't seen later reporting that both sides denied it. This was a mistake and I apologize for it.”

44 I saw where Ben Had asked for a kitten update, but it was late when I saw it.

So, all four kittens are doing excellent.

Maximillian, with the barn name of Frog is by far the largest at almost 3.75 pounds.

His sister, Margo who will also be coming home with us after the wedding at the end of next month is every bit the little lady, and probably about a pound less than him.

We visit them daily, and they seem to be welcoming of both of us.
Particularly Mrs VIA, who seems to have some sort of feline magnetism, causing them to stick to her.

The name of the victim has not been released waiting notification of next of kin.

1) Locate the service in the Services panel that runs this screenshotting thing and/or database, and disable.
2) Locate the database and delete it.
3) To be extra sure, set up a task that runs in the Windows Task Scheduler, and have it shut off the service AND delete the database. Under the Advanced options for the task, set it to run every minute.

At the bottom of that in the "Related Topics" section, there's another link: "Microsoft Public IP Space". Click on that, and download the .CSV file that contains every Microsoft public IP range on the net, IPv4 and IPv6. The first column contains the IP addresses, which can be copied to a text file and used as an alias in your firewall to block access to them (This is a nice feature in pfSense.)

I miss the days when software was designed to improve the users lives and productivity after release.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of processing power, energy use, internet use, etc. strictly for data collection occurs daily, both at an individual level and at an entire-population level.

When he's doing a rally speech, at least, he's basically just Talking Like Donald Trump, but louder. It's the same as how he talks in a sit down interview. Honestly, I don't give a crap if that "hug" vignette was faked or not (i don't think it was at all, but people are assholes). Even if it was orchestrated and scripted, then Kudos to him and his crew for recognizing that the audience wanted that kind of story, and for delivering it competently.

A big part of the nation still hasn't grasped that the same people shot one POTUS candidate in the head immediately before forcibly removing the other POTUS candidate from the ballot, both not even six months prior to the election.

So watch what they're doing with AI - the goal there is to harvest your data for more effective advertising. The next tactic won't be as obvious.
