I had a young girl (12-13?) next to me on a flight, and she wanted to talk. She asked if I had any pets; I said yes, 4 Chihuahuas. She got a sour look on her face, and said her father was a vet, and didn't like Chihuahuas, and then looked at me for my reaction. I laughed, and said I'd heard vets didn't like Chihuahuas, understood, but that every vet who'd seen our dogs remarked on how nice they were, clearly not meeting their expectations.

Penguins migrate by the thousands. Their arrival to a new location is accompanied by dread and disgust arising from the mephitic mess covering the entire area of their congregation. The continuous stream of foul excrement is capable of destroying your local ecology and economy. If you see penguins attempting to nest in your area, a discreet midnight trip with a tire iron to their rookery, when they are inactive and docile, will reap great rewards.

Thankfully there was no class participation grade in Macroecon 1 at USC (LA) when I went three times (besides the 2 midterms and final). My first midterm was a C+ so I buckled down and got to the point where I really grocked the material. 400 student class, final exam had 10 bonus questions (1 point each) and the curve was to make the highest score 100 and scale from there. I got every question, including the bonuses, right, so there was no curve. Sadly, that C+ kept me from getting an A+ in the class.

I was a letter carrier for many years and they used bar code scanners to keep track of the appointed rounds. About 6 or 8 of them for the whole route, they could see what time you were at where you supposed to be, etc. This was a big deal, don't miss any scans. They put them in the blue collection boxes too, to ensure verification that every box had been picked up.
Well the wind up is, I started having nightmares about difficult to find bar codes. If you went off your route, sometimes they have been moved from where they were supposed to be. Or you would run into them where you didn't expect. So in my dreams, they were at the end of these elaborate obstacle courses, some of them underground requiring a flashlight, and low-crawling. LOL! Another related one was, in the dream, didn't get out of the Office until about 2 PM, and you look back inside the truck and it's full of mail. The whole route. Hurry!! Last time I had it in the dream I thought “Wait, what degree am I getting? I’ve already got that degree. Also I’m retired now and really have no use for all this nonsense “. I don’t think I’ve had that dream since. Posted by: Blutarski at August 21, 2024 07:46 PM (Cp1vk) -------------- I've had that dream for decades. I'm rarely in my own dreams. I dreamt the plan for the needlework I sent to TRex a few weeks ago. I dream characters, complete with names and plot lines and back stories. I dream jokes, like Daffy Duck giving a lecture on interracial couples, whom he called Candybar Couples, and when someone (no, not me) asked him why, he shrugged his tiny shoulders and said Milk Chocolate.
The weirdest one was the summer of 1987, when I dreamt that the stock market's high would end at the same time as Paul Molatar's (sp?) hitting streak. I think he played for the Minnesota Twins? Our neighbors then were mostly Wall Street guys, so there was a lot of speculation, and I would say, Well, I happen to know. It was a running joke. The crash was in October, but if you go back and look, the crest of the high and the end of Molator's hitting streak did in fact come at the same time. I'm at a job fair. The seats are halved with the back and bottom on opposite halves. Place is packed with Skinnies. It's run buy the Aflak duck complete with the hair of the bad guy from No Country for Old Men and GoGo dancers dancing to Rush 2112. A classic car show is going on there too for some reason. The real NCFOM guy shows up to kill the duck and I jump out of my half seat and grab him by the back of the shirt and throw him under a low rider car. He glides under it like it isn't there. I run to the other side and it's Barney Fife with a wig on. He's trying to get his bullet out of his pocket to shoot me and I wake up. Ach, there seems to be no capering monkeys in this Cafe. Or perhaps there are and Werner missed it. Such is aging and the need to make sure all one's medications are taken properly. The Ayahuasca must not be combined with the Ketamine. To do so would turn one into a Joe Rogan. Even Werner finds this a frightening prospect.
But it was the monkeys, ja, that brings forth a merry time that Werner enjoyed. It was during a period where I was a close friend of the famed LAPD slapper, Zsa Zsa Gabor. It was a day like many others. Zsa Zsa had invited an entire bar full of unseemly persons to prove their mettle, or face the prospect of their mother being ...nein, Werner must not disclose this. Zsa Zsa was a force of nature, not unlike a storm surge or a sharknado. The combat that ebsued was epic. A few moments later, Zsa Zsa and I were knocking back a plum brandy amidst all the collapsed bar flies, both those whose concussions rendered them insensate and those whose severe injuries led to a low, weak moaning. CNN was on the television above the bar, and we watched it with contempt. Then it was ... wait, one more post. Es tut mir leid. I had a recurring house dream a while back. It was on a nice block, but an older run down, once grand house. I was trying to fix it up, but it was slow, and there were other people in it, watching. Some were supportive, some skeptical, and they’d have comments which surprised. I wondered about them, started focusing on them more when it came back.
Then one night, when it had been particularly vivid, I suddenly realized that all of those other people were already dead, and I shouldn’t be going there and trying to talk to them. I never went back after that. Posted by: Tom Servo at August 21, 2024 09:36 PM (gBVkZ) 207
Ja, back again. CNN was showing a story about Koko, the famed gorilla that had learned sign language. As we watched the ape communicate with her trainer, Zsa Zsa turned to me with a look of intensity that only Hungarians can bring to the table. Werner, you see this, she asked. Ja, I said, it is a blasphemy. No, Zsa Zsa said, putting me in a headlock, the monkey must learn!
So it was that we began a road trip to the zoo where Koko insulted both God and man. Along the way, we funded ourselves with catch-wrestling exhibitions, which of course, Zsa Zsa won every time. Upon our arrival, Zsa Zsa cleared a path through the throng with groin kicks and punches to the throat. At last we were before Koko herself. Now, Werner, it is your duty, said she. And so I told Koko of the essence of life. By the time I had finished, the beast could only flash the signs for "I am in existential despair, there is only the Void and all else is folly." A great sadness overtook her, and we departed. The ride back to Los Angeles was one of great merriment for Zsa Zsa and myself. Yay, said we, we did it! And so it was. Ach. The whole "joy" thing could not be farther from the actual dour, critical, and mean Kamala.

What happened to Len Neal? I haven't seen him in forever. Posted by: Brunnhi!de ___________ My understanding is that he went all keyboard warrior on Weasel in the Gun Thread. Which strikes me as unwise. I haven't been here as long as some of you, but I've seen enough people blow up suddenly, then disappear. I suspect certain substances are involved. I'm sure her staff turnover rate is so high because people just become tired of all the joy. Happiness fatigue is a real thing.

Klaus, strike not the Notorious BFD. It is almost time for your Kibbles. I will hold my feline, Commander Star Sprinkles, at bay so that you may consume without fear. Then shall we watch the feel-good children's entertainment that is Sam Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch.

DJ - It's actually pretty grim for the Democrats.
We talk about this election being critical for us, well it is critical for them as well. It could very well be an extinction level event for whichever party loses. Dems win, they will tear the country apart of make sure they rule over the gnawed bones of whatever is left. We know that. But if they lose, they have a terrible demographic problem. They have been relying on the fraud and ballot harvesting for so many cycles they have not noticed that they aren't attracting new voters. There is a massive division in voting tendencies of Blacks over 50 and under 50. As the years go on, they are losing their voting bloc, and aren't replacing them. This is why they need the illegals so much, they need a new bloc of victims to grift off of, because they forgot to grow their base. Posted by: Dave in Fla at August 21, 2024 09:57 PM (5p7BC) 257

I once witnessed a squirrel fight a crow for a mouse in Big Sur. They took it back and forth four or five times with so many odd noises and acraobatic moves to take possesion. As they tumbled and flew the leaves and twigs jumbled in the air, interrupting the sun's rays down through the trees. The crow fought bravely for it's meal, but at last, it gave way and left its treat to the squirrel. I couldn't believe a crow would give way to a squirrel for a much needed meal. I couldn't believe a squirrel would fight so hard for a mouse. I didn't even know squirrels eat meat.
I hiked back to camp. I told my wife what I had just seen. She looked at me with a skeptical, but purposefully sly smirk. I realized at that point that the large handful of mushrooms I had eaten for breakfast may have influenced my interpretation of the events that morning. I have had a dream several times where my parents are still alive and I am visiting them. They live in what seems to be a converted auto service center in an area of the town where I grew up where the architecture immediately places it. In this building my dad has many cars parked from the 50s and 60s. Funny thing is my dad would have never collected cars and only liked pre WW2 cars. We never lived in that area and they would have never bought a service station. But the dream feels very detailed and realistic.

Posted by: Dave in Fla at August 21, 2024 10:03 PM (5p7BC) He posted some reloading stuff, Weasel told him not to do that and then he called Weasel out behind the bike racks. The D's are attempting to run their usual deception campaign. Ridiculous assertions that seem to be attempting to convince the normies that they are popular enough for the normies to accept the cheat they will try again. This time the interesting thing is what happens afterwards if they claim a win. Much like how getting everyone to take them serious with the pandemic, and this time they are hyping bird flu and monkeypox and its not catching, you can only coast thru with "they wouldn't do that, they've never done that before" once. I don't know what happens if they try the cheat again and I suspect they don't know either. I bet most of the high level discussions are about whether to go YOLO or let it ride for four years.
